I quit clash Royale like 5 years ago and I don't care about it now, but you still manage to make vids about it that interest me, so good job! You're one of the best niche historian youtubers I've found out there.
It wasnt mid and high ladder tho… it was mid ladder and whale ladder. Mid was casual f2p up to sweaty low budget spenders… High ladder was whales dropping hundreds to thousands of dollars to max out a card day 1. So when it came to community backlash, it was justified as only whales were playing a balanced game, while 99% of the player base was still at day 170 out of 215 to max out fireball, their first max card.
Tbh if I were to rework the e-barbs I would make it so that the e-barbs have the same speed as the regular barbarians but they get a temporary special rage effect that boost their speed by a lot if they took out a unit. That way, it could be used to kill big units then the e-barbs would Get their high speed boost to counter push the enemy. Also, considering that the e-barbs are raged when they kill a unit, the rage spell wouldn’t effect it anymore.
They are not even op people need to learn how to play. It's 6 elixir what do y'all would want to do. I can easily counter this card with valkyrie, dark prince, Bats+tesla and more
People cry about Elite Barbarians which can be countered by like more than half the cards in the game but if I dare say that Goblin Barrel or Firecracker are absolutely cancerous I get hated on lmao
It's interesting watching videos like this about the history of CR because I get to learn so much about the meta environment that I didn't care about back then. I remember playing in 2016 in high mid ladder and not having a significant issue with e-barbs at all, even though I was usually underleveled as a f2p player. Maybe it was just the deck I was running, idk.
Really good video, I loved seeing the history of E-Barbs and MAN am I happy that I never saw them overpowered. Anyways you might have forgotten to mention the rage range/damage rework and how that possibly affected E-Barbs.
I always thought they might benefit from the opposite of the twitter poll. 9 cost, 3 barbs, longer spawn timer. They wouldn’t be good, but it would help isolate them from a lot of the synergies that made them so oppressive
I haven't played clash royale for almost 4 years now and goddamn that triggered ptsd. The amount of times I've seen those suckers just as I launched a nice attack on the other side was so frustrating. and not only with just rage, some played the lumberjack before them, which were essentially 3 of them with a delayed rage spell included...
Your videos are always informative and a great listen. I hope eventually there's a card history for all the cards in the game. Maybe a 3 balance change minimum? It would also be intriguing to find if there are any cards that have stayed relatively the same since release.
My God that meta was a nightmare. And I use Pekka mini Pekka so they ment nothing but the moment you messed up you lose the game. Still miss those dayes
Yea, as a seven year player, the e barbs rage with RG was rough to say the least. Remember get very frustrated abt even trying to counter them when my skarmy would just get zapped away. It was oppressive.
I still remember when the electro wizard came out with his own challenge. EVERYONE was just using an e-barb deck in it (me included ofc) and every game was just focused around e barbs and how to play around em.
In my opinion, elite barbs only got balanced when the movement speed was changed. That was my very first thought back then when the trailer and card came out and I always thought that it was very obvious what had to change about them
I remember using E-Barbs in 2016-17 and even 2018. They were the best win condition by far in 2016, to the point where I legit never remember losing once. Lvl 10 tower with lvl 13 E-Barbs btw. Carried me to like 4.5k, even winning against lvl 11 and 12 players. That's how stupid broken they were.
As always great video. I can't wait for the next video on the update. And for card history i think it would be a great time for a history of the most nerfed card ever. Miner
Those were the times around when I quit this game. I remember consistently playing against players with cards and king level 1~2 levels higher than me on the ladder and it just didn't feel fun anymore. Especially when I meet stuff that are 3 levels above me. There was no fun in a game where you can't strategize, you can't counter, you can't outplay, you can't do anything just because you stupid ahh opponent who makes the worst plays in the world still win because they are so overleveled.
I was an player in this era and my 4 first maxed out cards are zap, royal giant, mirror and elite barbarians in order. I felt so bad for abusing them to the point I've refused to use any metas today (example E giant, Mega knight) because the game is more fun that way
It's been literal years since I've played clash royale and I'd never forget using e-barb rage in mid-ladder 😅 Edit: still traumatized by e-barb deployment sound though
Ogs know the feeling when you had No elixir to defend and your opponent drops Elite Barbarians it's still going on but it was way too powerful back then. If you didn't had any Skeleton army or Gobin gang or Mega knight (which was very common in Mid-Ladder) you were fucked up. Even if you tried you were still dead you had no chance of winning specially if the Name of the player was in Japanese or Korean.
Honestly, they feel really satisfying to use in a balanced state. They still make light work of heavy tanks, but are easily pulled or swarmed with cheap cards.
Elite Barbarians were my favorite card to use and I never thought they were OP since my friends seemed to have always the answer to it so I believed they were a balanced card and I just need to learn how to use them. I felt like people were overreacting to how powerful they were at the time
The biggest mistake is a casual game was heavily treated as an esport when it could never be. The top 100 leaderboard is not even 0.01% of the game. Rest of the playerbase got ignored for too long and suffered for it
This causal environment often literally only existed becuase of the overleveling which isn’t part of the core gameplay but instead part of the monetization policy
I've used Elite Barbs for so long with the rage spell to the point that I don't know any other way to play. You catch yourself lackin' against me just a tiny bit and boom one of your towers gets Elite Barb Rage Combo'd. Then you just instantly give up and let me get the three crown. Well that's what people usually do for some reason. They have no confidence in themselves winning against me after instantly losing a tower. Sometimes before people can do anything about it my Elite Barbs can also end up three crowning people before they can defend or properly defend themselves. Especially when I combo the elite barbs with different cards which I usually do to secure that fast W. Obviously all decks can get hard countered, so Elite Barbarians technically aren't always going to beat everyone's deck unless they are just really really bad at the game that somehow ended up in high trophy Arenas.
I was in the range of super high elite barb usage during that time and it was hell. However, I'm grateful because it gave me the idea for the deck I have used ever since, my Pekka Freeze deck.
This brings me back when i was using e-barbs + lumberjack. I climbed so fast with thjs combo almost makes me wanna redownload the game but after browsing the reddit i dont feel it anymore
I remember my deck going pretty decent at this time against them. 1. Hogrider and skeletons/goblin gang 2. Wizard and Ice Wizard 3. Valkyrie and Knight 4. Zap and Fireball The deck was all about counter attacking with the hogrider after a sucessfull defense. To defend you would pair Ice Wizard and Valkyrie (3+4) or Wizard and Knight (5+3), if necessary, skeletons/goblin gang. The deck was very flexible and a real fortress if you're skilled enough in positioning
I've been playing since launch and last year i was thinking about what a good idea it might be a yputube channel covering the history of the game, and here it is. Very nice videos man, keep it up
As much as people complained about the e barbs, i think the main issue was the game in general. Since e barbs and royal giant were common, that made it so easy to obtain and level up for any player. Where as rare/epic/legend, was not easy and rare to find. Sadly thats the main issue with free to play games in general, trying to keep it away from pay to win. Also like they mentioned, the top player meta didnt see an issue with e barbs, where as the mid player meta had the isssue with e barbs. O well 😂
I was very much not ready for these dudes to come out and obliterate my hog deck that was crushing it before they were added. Ended up changing it up a lot, mostly incorperating the bowler, which countered them quite well. Gave me a lot of respect for him.

Tbh if I were to rework the e-barbs I would make it so that the e-barbs have the same speed as the regular barbarians but they get a temporary special rage effect that boost their speed by a lot if they took out a unit. That way, it could be used to kill big units then the e-barbs would
Get their high speed boost to counter push the enemy.
Man i just have to sub those videos are so well made that it made me replay this game since 4 years. Keep up the good work king
Really good video, I loved seeing the history of E-Barbs and MAN am I happy that I never saw them overpowered.
Anyways you might have forgotten to mention the rage range/damage rework and how that possibly affected E-Barbs.
I truly love this channel and the amount of work you put in your videos.
Pd: talk about the balloon or the lava hound ;)
Next video: "How Clash Royale ruined Clash Royale"
I always thought they might benefit from the opposite of the twitter poll. 9 cost, 3 barbs, longer spawn timer. They wouldn’t be good, but it would help isolate them from a lot of the synergies that made them so oppressive
I remember when Elite Barbarians were the terror of the earth. When they moved very fast 😂
Then add the fact your opponent has Level 13/14 E-Barbs against your Level 9 deck.
I remember back in 2016 when ebarbs were literally everywhere at 3000-4000 trophies....never again😅
Yea, as a seven year player, the e barbs rage with RG was rough to say the least. Remember get very frustrated abt even trying to counter them when my skarmy would just get zapped away. It was oppressive.
This guy is the type of guy to make videos on a game that died 3 years ago but still get a ton of views because his content is that good
Yup
I still remember when the electro wizard came out with his own challenge. EVERYONE was just using an e-barb deck in it (me included ofc) and every game was just focused around e barbs and how to play around em.
Gratz uploaded! Everyone wake up!
We definitely need a video on the zap as I remember the card as a menace and nowadays don't see anyone using it in mid ladder
In my opinion, elite barbs only got balanced when the movement speed was changed. That was my very first thought back then when the trailer and card came out and I always thought that it was very obvious what had to change about them
And the sight range, that was just abnoxious
I felt so bad for abusing them to the point I've refused to use any metas today (example E giant, Mega knight) because the game is more fun that way
another amazing video :) hopefully we don’t have to wait another month haha
It's been literal years since I've played clash royale and I'd never forget using e-barb rage in mid-ladder 😅
Edit: still traumatized by e-barb deployment sound though
I remember refusing to upgrade my E barbs because they were so strong! They are still lvl1 today
Who else was vibing with the Minecraft music
Ogs know the feeling when you had No elixir to defend and your opponent drops Elite Barbarians it's still going on but it was way too powerful back then. If you didn't had any Skeleton army or Gobin gang or Mega knight (which was very common in Mid-Ladder) you were fucked up. Even if you tried you were still dead you had no chance of winning specially if the Name of the player was in Japanese or Korean.
OHHH YEAH BABY THE HISTORY ABOUT GAYS IS HERE
Lmao
BRo wrote a huge paragraph about elite barbs..... I appreciate him for his talent 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
00:35 just stop the video and click
Honestly, they feel really satisfying to use in a balanced state. They still make light work of heavy tanks, but are easily pulled or swarmed with cheap cards.
read carefully 16:46 lol
I never really feared this card as I was a pekka main
AND I EVEN HAD MEGA KNIGHT IN MY DECK TO SYNERGIES WITH PEKKA 💀💀
Elite Barbarians were my favorite card to use and I never thought they were OP since my friends seemed to have always the answer to it so I believed they were a balanced card and I just need to learn how to use them. I felt like people were overreacting to how powerful they were at the time
found the overleveler💀💀
The biggest mistake is a casual game was heavily treated as an esport when it could never be. The top 100 leaderboard is not even 0.01% of the game. Rest of the playerbase got ignored for too long and suffered for it
This causal environment often literally only existed becuase of the overleveling which isn’t part of the core gameplay but instead part of the monetization policy
2:02 Barbarians has 5 units not 4
On launch barbarians had 4
HE SAID "HAD" DUMBASS HOW ARE WE THIS RETARTED AS A GENERATION BRO
@@John_Marston...There was one time when a Chinese commentator in an official tournament said bandit cost 4 elixir
Do the history of the miner. He has had a crazy road
Why always when you tell ,,Lengendaries’’, at that moment, you show Princess card instead of Phoenix?
I remember my deck going pretty decent at this time against them.
1. Hogrider and skeletons/goblin gang
2. Wizard and Ice Wizard
3. Valkyrie and Knight
4. Zap and Fireball
The deck was all about counter attacking with the hogrider after a sucessfull defense. To defend you would pair Ice Wizard and Valkyrie (3+4) or Wizard and Knight (5+3), if necessary, skeletons/goblin gang.
The deck was very flexible and a real fortress if you're skilled enough in positioning
Great choice of music - Aria Math. (for anyone wondering)
O well 😂
I haven't played clash royale in years but I've been binging your channel, statistics make my brain happy
I remember a meme at that time :
you use toenado on e barb to activate king tower.
the ipponent place rage
e barbs destroy the king tower
I love that Diddy Kong N64 playground music 😊😊
man i just subscribed to u ur videos are like genuinely the best things to watch while high
I was very much not ready for these dudes to come out and obliterate my hog deck that was crushing it before they were added. Ended up changing it up a lot, mostly incorperating the bowler, which countered them quite well. Gave me a lot of respect for him.
