That last one was disgusting. O'Dea should have been charged and banned from football. The club should have been fined for ruining that player's career.
when a player cops a suspension for intentionally hurting another player they should also have the time it takes the other player to get back to pre injury form added to the suspension.
Let's say the incident happens in R19 between a star player like Petracca and a squad player like McNeil. If you knew that, as the dogs, you were going to match up with the Dee's in the first round, would you not say that McNeil is still out injured so that Petracca has to be benched? Just a thought
And people say that footy was better when you could hit people. I'd rather watch a talented footballer play than watch a thug hospitalize that talented player. While I'm not happy with all of the suspensions this season I find it preferable to a Superstar watching the game on tv and eating their dinner with a straw

I love this game and it's not as brutal as it was, but in the sake of player safety, that is a-okay with me
Absolutely. It has been cleaned up to the point where the thug offers a fake apology unlike back then when they went home with a big grin on their face and probably jerked off watching it being replayed.
I remember watching that Ling hit and felt like crawling through the TV. Of course I then got to watch the cats destroy Port in the GF at the end of the year.

Should have criminal charges brought against them for callous hits like this. Same as assaulting someone in the street. Because assault is not part of the sport.
suspensions should as others have stated, include the amount of time the other player they injured is unable to play... Jim O'Dea and Neil Balme brought the game of footy into disrepute. The fact that Balme was never suspended for the hit on Southby or Waite in 73 (or McKay and Dickson in 72) nor has ever publically regretted his actions is disappointing. Its also disappointing that hes one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. It shows how much the game was a 'leave your integrity at the front gate' back in the old days
I think if a player ends up with broken cheek bone or whatever the offending player should be forced to sit out their sentence e.g 8 weeks or 50% longer than it takes the victem to recover so if the victem needs 12 weeks to get back into the game the offender should sit out 18 weeks
