Man transmission puzzles are like a love/ hate thing for me. They're terrifying and overwhelming with the sheer number of parts and things to remember. But actually getting them to fit in place is satisfying.

I have only tried that once 30 some odd years ago. It worked great going forward. Had no reverse! Nope never again, I only have manual transmissions in my stuff. Refuse to own an automatic.
When we were kids playing baseball, the ball would get hit over in the woods and of course we would have no idea of where to look for it. So, my uncle told us to focus on the general vicinity of where the ball was hit and try to at least narrow it down to where the ball went by the sound it made going through the brush and so forth. Well, that worked out pretty good. I have learned to apply that in my shop because i am always dropping the mysterious clip, spring, check ball, and so forth. I have learned to differentiate the different sounds as the mysterious piece hits concrete, wood or steel to give me the best place to look. If the part is magnetic, I will sweep the suspected area with a bar magnet, and of course the magic cure is to do like you did and make the piece, install the piece, and after putting the transmission in the car, I will find the piece I lost (murphy's law says so). The first automatic transmission was not really a fully automatic unit it was a mechanical unit operated by the driver It was the planetary transmission in a Model T Ford. The first fully hydraulically operated transmission was the GM Hydramatic. These transmissions were used in battle tanks in WWII. But you are correct in one assumption. The engineering that goes into these transmissions boggles the mind, and it was many years before they were fully developed. In fact when I was coming up nobody wanted an automatic transmission (had to be standard shift). Nowadays with all of the red lights we incur an automatic transmission is the way to go. In fact we have them in big trucks and they get some getting used to but they work just fine.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I found the clip yesterday. Of course after I put the trans back in. (Stupid Murphy). I never knew tanks were automatic. I guess that makes sense. I definitely don’t miss my 4 speed
@@Theoldironworkshop yes not all of the tanks were automatic, there were standard shift ones as well. And of course, there were engines that put out quite a bit of horsepower. I have some standard shift vehicles but prefer automatics. It used to be we tried to see how fast we could go, but now it is how many redlights we can make. I find stuff on the floor eventually when cleaning the shop floor. Sometimes those mystery parts can get into the damnest places.

All that you have done to transform this hearse is amazing and especially the last two videos on disassembling and reassembling the transmission. For the next time, if you use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly instead of the grease then during operation the Vaseline will dissolve and dissipate whereas the grease floats around in gobs for quite a while after you start using the transmission.
Well dang. Well I had it sit for 3 days. And I did get it installed yesterday. And surprisingly it worked. Although I did have a alarm for open circuit on a few things so I think my electric plug might be a problem
please tell me it worked? I have been found laying on the floor with a torch identifying anything sticking up...I feel your pain regarding the clip. Happens to all of us

Isn't the pump similar to the rotors motors Mazda had that has a variable squeegee as the rotor turned in a elliptical fashion to form variable compression chambers sorry for saying squeegee couldn't pull the right word out of the muck between my ears

I have never had any kind of luck with automatic transmissions. Kinda like manuals. So much easier to work on also it's an anti theft device!
Clutch plates must be 24 hrs in the atf fluid before montage ??? thats what we learned at course....great job brother,greets from holland....
