  • This week at Starbase Starfactory expansion rolls on, SpaceX continues reinforcing the launch site and carpenters have a little incident during a concrete pour. Preparations are also being made for the fabrication of SpaceX's next launch tower, while Starship and Superheavy construction continues to move forward. Also, over at Cape Canaveral, we see teams at NASA beginning work on the installation of the emergency egress systems for Artemis II.

    I am going to say the crane is being configured with the dual truss configuration, getting it ready for construction of tower 2!

      I'd also thought that, but IIRC the crane originally used to build the first tower was a LR13000? and I wonder if the LR11000 has the same tonnage lifting capacity and height capability as the LR13000?

    I believe the LR-11000 cranes boom is being disassembled and will be reconfigured with the double boom or “Power Boom” to start the build for the second tower.

    • @Wrangler-fp4ei
      @Wrangler-fp4ei 3 місяці тому +1

      I'd have to agree with that. Given how their going with second tower. I'd imaging that's what going happen. Unless the upheaval of park services landswap back fires (it sounds like it did) causes the delay in 2nd tower.

    • @Doug_Morgan
      @Doug_Morgan 3 місяці тому +1

      I have been wondering if it is going to be reconfigured with a power boom for the new launch tower. I have been watching for any posts on the subject.

    • @Powerhead1000
      @Powerhead1000 3 місяці тому

      @@Doug_Morgan I did look back to the assembly of the first tower as well as the OLM. The Rasta Crane had a double boom the whole time. It makes sense. The weight of the tower sections could easily cause a single boom configuration to “pop-out” under heavy load. I’m sure the reassembling will start soon. I also feel it will built close to the first tower as all of the fuel and plumbing is already in place.

    • @Powerhead1000
      @Powerhead1000 3 місяці тому

      @@Wrangler-fp4ei it does suck that the land deal has been held up. But I think the second tower will be in the area of the suborbital location they just dismantled.

    • @Doug_Morgan
      @Doug_Morgan 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Powerhead1000 Looks like they are putting the same boom back on. They may rent one for when a double power boom is required or re rig it later.

    Amazing how much SpaceX gets done in a week, week-on-week, and it is notable how the pace and quality of the development at Boca Chica has improved dramatically since Musk hired Kathy Lueders as general manager based at Starbase. Gone are the days of the Elon "get something done and we'll see how/if it works" mind-set and we're now in the new SpaceX age of intense but careful management of the entire SpaceX/Starship development in engineering, infrastructure and site planning. Well done, Kathy, for a splendid and ongoing job!

    I wonder if they ever thought of just over-pressurizing the interstitial space of the dented tanks in the tank farm rather than point loading against the strongback members and using tiger torches? a few psi can go a long way. They have done that a few times with the SS when they buckled them having vacuum issues...

  • @donscheid97

    IMO, I see a few problems. I won't speculate on who is at fault, but there appears to be some cases of crews taking shortcuts probably to save time. Another is that the strength of concrete and steel for construction I think have been overestimated because they are rated using tests which do not include exposure to high intensity rocket blast. The water deluge works because it does not rely on material strength and is continually replenished as it gets "burned off"'

    Is anyone else impressed with how much work SPACE X gets done in a week? They get more done in the week than NASA does in a month or two,or even a half a year in some cases! It goes to show how much more efficient private enterprise is,over the government. No (well we need to form a committee,do an analysis,have hearings),yada,yada and low and behold projects are delayed by years. To say nothing of the $$$! WAY TO GO SPACE X!
