  • In this video I'm going to test the speed of 4 different VPN Protocols:
    - PPTP
    - OpenVPN
    - IPSEC/IKEv2
    - WireGuard
Which one do you think is the fastest?
    Let's find out! :-)

    Really good video!
One thing I would add is the CPU/memory usage by different VPN's. Just to see how taxing on the resources they are.

@Behfor something wrong with your setup. I use VPN (Openvpn) and i get almost the same speeds as my Internet connection 906Mbps/46Mbps. I have cable not optic fiber. I also use linux not windows. Which could be it with your situation

Hi Behfor, Really like your videos mate👍🏻 Can you please make a video how to setup a site-to-site VPN (Wireguard and OpenVPN) with Asus Routers?
I would like to make a Site-to-Site VPN connection between my place and my parents place, but don’t know where to start.

The upload speed of the VPN server's internet becomes the maximum download speed of the VPN client. Lets say the internet service of the client is 100 Mbps download/50 Mbps upload, and the server is 1000 Mbps download / 30 Mbps upload, the client's download speed will never get higher than 30 Mbps when connected to the VPN. When it comes to VPN speeds, the server mostly controls the show.

Without VPN I have 1200/600, with VPN (WireGuard) I have 160/150.
    Unacceptable.
How to set up VPN for cellular connection only? At home with WiFi I don't need a VPN.

People also should take into account the proper mtu size for the internet service provider they use. The default in most routers is 1500. However different providers may use different mtu sizes. Verizon recommends 1428 mtu and Tmobile uses 1420. It can make a drastic difference in speed especially when using a vpn. I changed my mtu size to what the 5g carrier i use recommended and my vpn speed was just as fast as my normal internet speed. If the mtu packet size is incorrect the data packets have to be split in half then put back together which adds latency to the network.

Thank you for this video and was exactly what I was looking for. Quick question, you said if you just want to add a little bit more security when connecting to a public wifi, you would use OpenVPN.. does that mean you would not use IPsec on that scenario? is it because OpenVPN is more secure?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  2 місяці тому +1

All of them except Pptp are secure, open VPN is just more flexible with more options that's it, thanks.
