  • The DJI Mavic 3 is a beast when it comes to video and photo work but you almost always will need to use ND filters to get the best settings and exposure. Both the zoom camera and the main camera require very different settings and up till now you had to trade ND filters every time you wanted to switch cameras. Not any more! Freewell has released their split ND Filters series for the Mavic 3 and these ND filters are the Best ND filters you can buy for the Mavic 3 if you film video and use both the Mavic 2 Zoom camera and the 4/3 inch sensor Hasselblad camera.

    Bought these filters as I was part of the media team for a large festival. We wanted to test the telephoto to try and capture aerial video close ups, which had not really been possible before. These filters were brilliant and having the split meant I could switch between the lenses and still have the correct video settings. Previously, I had to land and change filters or overcook the x7. They are not cheap at £129 but worth it me. Just wish the carry box was a lot smaller as takes a lot of space in the bag.

    Thank you Jake for this very informative video. Being able to use the telephoto at lower ISO is huge! I was also looking at PolarPro but as far as I know, they don't make split ND. I'd say Freewell is the clear choice.

    Hi Jake. I know you are showcasing the Freewell ND filters but have you ever used the Polar Pro filters and if so can you give your opinion between the two. You are obviously a very professional Videographer with incredible footage so I am curious what you think. I do realize Freewell makes great filters and I’m sure they are very good quality. I’ve been using a Polar Pro ND filter on my MA2 for awhile and it made such a difference with the color and contrast compared to a cheap brand I used which was terrible. I’m only a Hobbyist and I have purchased the New Air 3 for my personal use. The Polar Pro and even the DJI brand ND filters are still not available at this time. They are reporting they will be released soon but Freewell already has a set for the Air 3. If you are able to give an opinion I would appreciate it. I don’t use any social medias apps like twitter or Instagram so this in the only way I could ask you. Sometimes people won’t or can’t give opinions when they are advertising a particular brand. Thank you, Mike…

      I have a set of freewell ones for the Air 3 coming, but I have also used polar pro in the past and they are very good but over priced I feel for what you get. In the end freewell or polar pro will both give you great results optically and with minimal color shift

    I owned these filters and the quality is indeed very well. However, I was a little fast in placing the order, you can also just set the aperture of the main camera to 4.0, so both cameras are using the same. Am I wrong?

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 роки тому

      The main camera is dramatically more sensitive to light so you can use the aperture to stop down in many situations you still cannot get the right exposure between both lenses as demonstrated here

    • @jeffellis6544

      I’ve only had my Mavic 3 for a few weeks but the sensor on the main camera definitely is more sensitive to light. At 4.5 on the main camera is still much brighter than F4.4 on the telephoto.

    Jake, great review of the new filters, I love your reviews, BUT, I'm shocked, at 4:50 you begin to pan, and what do I see - choppy footage!! AHGG! This issue, or as I'm calling it, a FAULT with the M3 (I'm on my 2nd M3 because of this fault!) - the footage is choppy, not smooth! Why is this Jake? How can we fix it? If YOU can't fix it, is the M3 really a PoS? There is so so much choppy video around which has been shot with an M3, and very few are mentioning it. I'm currently in LONG conversations with DJI aboout this issue. Still images are superb, but video is, mainly, IMO, garbage, because of choppy footage coming out of this drone.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  Рік тому

      choppy panning has to do the way camera sensors read out and it's very difficult to deal with either way. The best way is to make your pans slow and smooth, something I didn't really try to do in this video lol

    The fact that DJI drones are for "professionals" but they haven't yet integrated ND filters into the camera systems themselves (like fuji, sony, black magic, arrived etc) is ridiculous. I get it, it takes up space, and makes the drone a tad bit heavier. I will gladly sacrifice 15% of my flight time for the ability to switch ND filters (forgive me ...) on the fly.
