    I never had any discernment until at the age of 64 I asked God for it. The whole world opened up for me after that. I found myself questioning my faith for the first time. Truth was not revealed overnight. It took me several years to sort through my beliefs not just about religion, but my family and friends as well. Eventually I left the tyranny of Rome, got rid of my rosaries and prayer books full of novenas to the saints and became a Christian. I also left everyone in my circle who were narcissistic liars behind. This gift of discernment followed me into Protestantism and delivered me from the hands of Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyers to name but a few. At 74 my life is very simple. I don’t watch mainstream entertainment or read secular books. My free time is spent in the Bible sometimes gasping at how different it is to the catechism I grew up with. Been disappointed many times by false teachers. After watching a random video that came up on my feed a few weeks ago, my heart skipped a beat as I recognized your spirit. No red flags, only confirmation I was safe listening to you, Matt. Thank you and bless you.

    Matthew, a thought came to me in the first minute of listening to your video. I have noticed 'a lot' and I mean 'a lot' that those who are in the 'Christian' content arena, tend to think that they have the ability to be more discerning than anyone else. I was watching the channel of someone who I consider to be a brother in Christ and he is always telling people not to watch this channel or read this book and the interesting thing is that the way he comes by the conclusion is by doing what he asks other not to do. Even some of the larger channels you will hear, "I read it, or watched it so you don't have to." I think that it is fine to warn someone that something is bad theology or doctrine and spell out your reasons, but I think it is dangerous to try to stand as a barrier to allowing Christians to become discerning on their own. Think of it this way, if you said, "Don't watch this or read this...whatever..." and I was speaking to a brother or sister in Christ and they asked me why I don't watch it or read it , I would only be able to answer, "Because Matthew said it was bad...and if you were wrong I could be bearing false witness." Just a thought that came to mind, I wanted to share with you.

    Right on. However, the only problem next would be what "version" of the Bible are they reading since not every version can be trusted to be one that states every word accurately to the infallible word of God. The only versions I trust are those translated from the Textus Receptus.

    • @lionoffireraw
      @lionoffireraw  22 дні тому

      1. Any variations between versions like ESV v KJV don’t affect any points of doctrine, or practical application.
      2. Good translations also include footnotes which highlight that some manuscripts may include/not include that verse (or use the number 72 instead of 70, for example). This gives the reader the opportunity to look into information about the manuscripts, for themselves.
      3. I personally wouldn’t recommend KJV to people (even though it’s a good translation) because the language is outdated, and this can actually cause greater confusion for the reader. Eg. When it uses the word “charity” instead of “love.” This makes no sense to the modern reader.
      4. No English version is infallible word for word. It’s simply a translation of the infallible Word. There are errors in the KJV (iThinkBiblically did a good video on this).

    • @jdbishop2697
      @jdbishop2697 22 дні тому

      @@lionoffireraw In answer to your first point, I will make this one short and sweet. There are indeed a number of places where the two translations differ from each other where the same statements are very unique (rather than just some "modernly updated" meanings.) Also if you would just look closely enough for yourself there are a number of things the KJV gets more straight than does many other versions.
      In answer to your second claim, the footnotes are another dangerous stumbling block that some Bibles have acquired during all of the re-translation periods.
      The way you described the advantage of footnotes, it may look that way to those who are still naive enough in the faith and to being able to execute the right textual criticism, but in reality the installment of footnotes can be another one of the enemy's clever tools to misleading people with their own "version" of the Bible.
      In answer to your third claim, I believe you to have a point on this one. However, a lot of this is the problem of how so many of us have been raised up in our recent generations. It hasn't always been this way and should have never become this way. Unfortunately so many of us have been so dumbed down a pretty good deal and is most the fault of the western world's schooling system and anyone else who has ever schooled us.
      Heck, how many of us have been taught to even be able to speak more than one language (our modern common one)? So many of us have been raised up on deficient vocabulary and this problem can easily be solved with a dictionary.
      I could also include just on a side note that it has always bothered me that English and Australians have some different meanings for certain things than Americans do; though we all still speak English. For example, why do you all call cookies "biscuits" when to us biscuits mean what you call "scones" except without sugar and cream in the recipe?
      All of these existing multiple meanings and expressions that only some areas use that others don't just makes it all the more complicated and makes it more essential that we all brush up as high as we all can on our vocabulary even to be able to do things like textual criticism with original translations into our own language.
      The more ignorant and naive and illiterate everybody is the more the devil loves it because he can more easily mislead and take advantage of everybody including Christians that way.
      In answer to your fourth claim, that is an erroneous claim. Because again there are plenty of difference in the translations. Just go to Bible Gateway and see the parallels for yourself. Even in response to Caleb's critique of the KJV, yes there may be a couple of statistical errors in the KJV but any supposed errors I've seen and can believe are there at least are not any theological errors.
      The truth is, and you can find out for yourself, that there are plenty of translations out of the Alexandrian texts that have some dangerous errors that the three translated out of the Textus Receptus at least don't have. One example would be that there are at least several versions (translated out of the Alexandrian texts) you can find where Mary is defined as being a "young woman" instead of a "virgin" in prophecies about her giving birth to Jesus. Now I'm sure that you would completely agree that this certainly doesn't give anyone the specific necessary meat about her chastity at the time of Jesus' conception from the Holy Spirit alone and birth.
      At least all of the translations out of the Textus Receptus say Mary was a "virgin" when she had Christ. So that is one way to know that the Textus Receptus is accurate in terms of being completely parallel to God's truth. I could give more examples of how that is, but this alone is a pretty straight on one.

    When I was younger I had the benefit of consistent, evangelical, protestant teaching in church. Now that I am old and restricted by health issues, I get my religious teaching from the internet, and sometimes Christian TV channels. I am appalled at the number of false teachers, (often with US political agendas), and others who are just plain money-grubbing profiteers. I can't even 'Cope' with watching that wealthy guy with the demonic appearance and his own private jet planes. As for that cabal of US preachers who falsely prophesied that Trump would win a second term in 2020, well you only need a knowledge of recent history to understand the level of deception that is being falsely put out as Christian teaching. May God deal speedily with these deceivers who have gone completely off the rails and who do the gospel message of Christ crucified no good at all! ☹
