  • Faro Portugal is the capital of the Algarve and is centrally located in the far southern region of Portugal. Faro is home to an international airport, bus, and train station and has access to one of the main hospitals in the area. This city is the hub for the entire region and an area you will most likely at least pass through when visiting the Algarve. We had traveled through Faro twice and until now never actually stopped to visit the city. So the big question - Faro Portugal is it worth visiting? In this video, we will take you through the old town, marina and shopping district, as well as head over by bus to Faro Island. We will share with you our final thoughts if we felt Faro would be on our list of places to see while visiting the Algarve. #portugal #travelportugal #algarveportugal
    Faro is your main connection when flying into the Algarve as well if you are traveling by train to the far east or west end - you will change trains here. From here you can head east to the border town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio or to the furthest train stop to the west, Lagos. If your goal is to be in a central location to be able to explore all of the Algarve, this may be the best place to stay!
    Is Faro Portugal the best place to visit in the Algarve, or at least add to your list of places to visit while here? Join us and decide for yourself!
    Cheers!!!

      Soooo many great places in the Algarve. We are figuring out that we prefer the smaller towns over the big city. We are in Lagos now and really enjoying it but we will see if it can compete with the eastern half. Thank you for watching!!!

    We visited Faro back in February, we were underwhelmed - we never made it to the beach though and that looked nice. We went on to Evora, Douro valley, Porto & Lisbon - found Porto & Lisbon very expensive (especially accommodation). Loved Carvoeiro - very high ex-pat population,,,

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 роки тому

      Agree with Faro. We were in Lisbon, Porto, and made it out to the Douro Valley three years ago and really enjoyed our time. We never made it to Carvoeiro, we will have to add it to our list! Thanks for the tip!!

    My husband went to Portugal for two weeks in 2023 September and then we went to Madeira for a week. We did go to Faro and under the archway or actually above the arch way of the city you just went into. I’m watching right now those nests were so huge for storks. It was crazy.😊 we loved Cascias (ocean town) and Porto,Douro Valley.

    Hi guys,good to see you in another part of the world. I was in Portugal in 2018 attending the International Living Conference in CARVOEIRO. A well run conference with a ton of information for those interested in relocating to the country. Whilst I loved Lisbon and Cascais the most,I found the Algarve region a bit too quiet for my liking.The conference also organised a viewing of several apartments for sale and again I did not express a WOW feeling for any of them. Perhaps they were only trying to show us the cheaper end of the market to make the point that Real Estate in Portugal is Very AFFORDABLE.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Alex. The eastern half of the Algarve may be a bit quiet for some but the bigger cities like Faro, Albufeira, Portimao, and Lagos in the western half have a lot more to offer. We have noticed newer, nice apartments throughout the region from east to west. Not sure about the pricing on them but maybe we can find out. We will show our rental in our video next week in Lagos.
      Cheers!!🍻

    In Faro you can see, perhaps, the only train bridge in the world that prevents boats from leaving the marina at high tide. It's a tourist attraction.

    Olhao (the train station just before Faro coming from Tavira) has a wonderful fish and meat market (two buildings) along the Rio Formosa. It’s a small town, small historic district, easy walk from the train station. A half-day trip. 👍🏻

    Thank you for the continuing tour of the Algarve. What we have been surprised about is the lack of people/ tourist. Is it true that the crowds mainly show up in July and august based on your experience/understanding? If yes, are you seeing a lot of seasonal closures even in June?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 роки тому

      Hi John. We are in Lagos now and there are plenty of tourists!! We have noticed more people in the last 2-3 weeks and sure more will arrive as the summer goes on. Everything has been open since we arrived in early May. From what we are told by the locals' places close in Dec. and Jan. in areas like Cabanas and Monte Gordo. Not really sure about some of the more populated areas like Lagos. 🍻

    Hey Guys, Thanks for the Faro video. I have to saw I am underwelmed as the Spanish border town looked so pretty in your last video. I am here in Agadir and while the people are nice and the food is great a weekend is plenty. I have been here one day and have already had four people ask me to give them money. Skip North Africa and the Middle East. I have a friend like you guys and untill he gets his non lucrative visa for Spain needs a non EU country to go to. It will be in the European winter. Do you have any any suggestions? Looking forward to the Lagos video.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 роки тому

      Hello!! Thank you, we really enjoyed Vila Real, Monte Gordo, and Cabanas and will most likely be back soon. Agreed, North Africa and the Middle East are not on our list, too many other places to see. As far as non-Schengen EU nations the Balkans are a good affordable option. We spent last winter in Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania. Ireland and the UK are also options but expensive and the winters there wouldn't be ideal. That Lagos video will be out Saturday!!! Thanks for watching!

      Hi! So sorry for the late reply, we were off the grid for the last week on a family cruise ☺.
      In December you will be facing cold weather in the Northern area, so possibly Lisbon would be the best choice. The Algarve is always a great choice, and in December Albeferia would be the most active that time of year as the other areas shut down more. Thanks so much for watching!!

    I have been told the average Portuguese is friendlier (and speaks better English) than the average Spaniard.

    Faro is not just about the beach and the airport, as you can see in the video. Faro is a historic city with a great history, Faro has a great culture, the best seafood in Portugal, that is, with great seafood restaurants. But of course if you don't appreciate these things of course it's not recommended to come to Faro. Faro is for more people who like history and culture and from what they made clear in the video, this is not the case for you, since they didn't say anything about it in the video

    Just some suggestions and these are just my own personal views: I don't find filming regular animals (pigeons, dogs, cats) that interesting; also, if you film a church or a statue, it would be nice if you said or indicated the name of the building or the person; traveling in Portugal is like traveling through history, and the more you know, the more you understand and appreciate what you are seeing. Again just my three cents...

    Ciudad muy sobrevalorada, toda la ciudad muy sucia, con bloques de pisos que se caen a trozos, el suelo de la calle muy sucio con botellas de cervezas y chicles pegados a cada rincón, además las baldosas totalmente dañadas, medio salidas todas, los restaurantes te quieren tomar el pelo con la comida, la cataplana un timo, no es lo que describen y los precios abusivos, la gente, de faro muy mal educada y sosa con los turistas, sin duda jamás volveremos a esta ciudad, en Portugal hay muchos sitios mejores que faro para visitar.
