Thank you, Twins, for this. Good video-graphing and tour! I intend to share this w several dozen in one of the fb groups the members of which worked at St. Mary Lodge and Resort as early as 1964. The Great Bear Lodge was not in the 60s and 70s and there are been many changes. The places where you saw "tiny homes" were the locations of one room cabins orig. built for tourists but used as employee housing later. It's worth a mention that there is also the "East Motel" and the "West Motel" on the property and that the original owners were the Hugh Black family, 1933 to about 2008. St. Mary is a GREAT place to work during the summer if you are college age .. or any age. 'Memories for life.
@@angierocha18 sorry I don't have the number. I am pretty sure i was able to book this hotel through booking.com but I do know this hotel fills up quick.
Thank you for your video - Back in 2018 we had to stay in East Glacier Park (big wildfires that year - we mostly saw smoke). I made my Aug 2022 reservations at St Marys Village in Sep 2021 - your video showed us the Snowgoose Grill and now we can plan our dinners.
I have stayed at the lodge in June of 2022. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, with a great view of the park, as the lodge is right next to the East Gate to Glacier. Dinner was a first class deal with wonderful food and service, but expensive.
We used to spend two weeks of our summer vacation at glacier national Park every year everywhere from St. Mary’s to East glacier we knew them inside out could never quite understand my mother to get in her eye when you talk about the wonders of St. Mary’s Lodge one day I did the math and I figured it out I was conceived in the old lodge
You cannot go wrong anywhere on the east side of glacier. The east side of glacier is the best place in Glacier. One of the good things about St Mary Village you do not have to stay up to midnight mountain time a year in advance to get rooms here. My favorite place to stay is Many Glacier hotel and Swiftcurrent Motor Inn and Cabins. I have already booked a couple nights at St Mary Village for August 2024. Planning on booking at least 5 nights at the Many Glacier Hotel prior to my stay at St Mary Village. If anyone is staying at St Mary Village I recommend walking across the street to Rising Sun Pizza 🍕 for dinner. Cannot go wrong with pizza and beer.
Appreciate the "real" view of St. Mary Village. We're booked at the Great Bear Lodge 2 weeks from now and really didn't know what to expect. We won't have transportation as we're coming in by train and depending on the shuttle service to get around. Was happy to see groceries were within walking distance. Can you recommend places to eat? Thanks!
Kimi here.. from what I can remember they had a restaurant in the lodge and there was 1 called the Johnston restaurant.. famous for huckleberry berry ice cream cake... it was a huge portion you can split with the whole family. We each got our own and it was too much I think we show it at the end of another vlog a pic of it. ... it's not far from st Mary's but it may not be walking distance either but it's a famous town favorite
Hi kimi here. I'm sure Kari will look it back up but this hotel was on " going to the sun road" which is the only road that goes across the middle of the park so it was close to hidden lake, logans pass, and I think Grinnell glacier was an hour away the park is so big.... Grinnell glacier there is another hotel literally at the start of the path but was booked full when we tried to book places.. st. Mary's was super nice just expensive but there are not a lot lot of options. The half way hotel we stayed in at the beginning was an hour or 2 away from the hikes we wanted.
St. Mary lodge is a out 40 mins from Grinnell glacier trial and the iceberg trial. But There are 2 hotels closer right by those trails...swiftcurrent motor inn...which is the hotel we parked at to start hiking one of those trails and there is the many glacier hotel close by too. (Which we looked at those 2 hotels to stay at over a year in advance but they were already booked up) This is all on the east side of the park. Make sure you drive the "going to the sun road" as well. It's the one road that cuts through the middle of the park and you can hike hidden lake trail and/or the highline trail. And there is a visitor center to park at for those trails. Hope this helps. Glacier national park is beautiful anywhere you go!!!
@@brianwoodworth9727 sorry to hear that... we haven't heard about the day pass system...fill us in please. We had a lot of trips canceled too with covid. But I hope you can go in the near future 🤞and if you need any more info closer to your trip just let us know.
I worked at the courly bear cafe back in 2003. It looks good!

@@kimiandkari Well, if we can't hike then let's eat ice cream! Never had huckleberry, why not? Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the video. We are planning a trip there in June if we can get a room for five days. We want to hike. Is it far from hiking trails?

@@kimiandkari Thanks. The day pass system is the big problem now. I saved the information and will try again next year. (2022)
