This device is such a disappointment because... before it came out I was posting that Korg should make a drum machine that allows USER oscillators + custom samples to be used with analog VCFs, VCAs and dist/saturation. That's a killer app we've been missing any product on the market for forever, being able to use all the samples in your sample library and easily load them into an analog drum machine, and to code your own algorithms for the analog drum machine. When the Drumlogue was announced I was so excited. Only to find out that Korg removed the one thing I actually wanted... the Sample 1/2 and Korg logue SDK oscillators have no analog VCFs or VCAs -- they are a digital output only, so it's pointless, might as well use a plugin, and there's plenty of digital drum machines already available. Korg F'd this up by cutting out the main thing that would have made this totally unique on the market and they removed the only functionality I was actually looking for. And Drumlogue's digital High Hats is a let down, come on, colorful sounding entropically randomized analog hats is one of the things you'd want to use an analog drum machine for. The High Hats don't even have an analog noise shaper or VCA, they are just digital outputs, so they sound like a plugin. The Minilogue XD is actually the better drum machine than Drumlogue. At least you can use Korg logue SDK oscillators with the analog filters and it's polyphonic for 4 drum voices. You can't really load samples but you can hard-code samples into the code, and User oscillators can do every kind of drum synthesis, at least until you run out of DSP power, but there's still near infinite possibilities because you can always make an algorithm more inventive instead of intensive. Minilogue XD's not perfect because you only get 2 outputs, but you do get 2 CV inputs for sample accurate modulation which is something important Drumlogue's missing that really impacts the sound and rhythmic possibilities. Drumlogue is not good enough and I'm looking forward to the Drumlogue XD which I hope Korg will make soon, and maybe they will because of some of the bad repoir Drumlogue's been getting.
Yeah, I dig mine! I believe there will great updates. I do use a lot of drum machines in one beat, POs, Drumlouge, rd9, dr880, Volca sample2, akai 8 pad, SPX, Blackbox
I been toying with the idea of getting this. I like the workflow and seems easy to use but I’m still enjoying my TR-8s and I’d have to sample over my 707, 808, 909 sounds so….. do I really need it? But the synth is a massive plus
Amazing sounding machine, well designed, and great to pair with others as main sequencer ;) It covers a good spectrum of sound and it also allow other instruments as audio in, in case you may be missing a certain sound palette. It allows user samples, the filters sounds great, and I'm just missing more user synth like options... Any of the people complaining about the sound did ever test it on big sound systems?
I've been making an hour of music per week with this thing. This video validates my feelings and turned me onto new ideas. My more basic use of the Dlog can be sampled here; www.youtube.com/@freezeframeandkirk3596/featured
It seems they wanted bits from various Elektron kit to sell at 2/3 of their midrange, but missed too many of those compelling features - particularly all the modulation. To me significant issues with that approach are typified by Opsix being a far more interesting and capable synth drum, Wavestate a far more interesting and capable sample drum, and something like an RD-9 being a full on full size 909. Having some of all 3 in a small unit for 1/2 the cost I guess could be a big deal for some? It just seems to have landed in a no man's land - maybe once it is being cleared out at $300...
It’s overpriced, that’s the main thing. It’s approaching elektron prices but with worse build quality and less flexibility in terms of sequencing especially with all of the new updates elektron has been pushing out recently. The SX and MX Elektron devices had a lot more character imo and had more pattern memory and sample memory in the case of the SX and some models had sd card support for expandable storage. The drumlogue is fine but it really doesn’t excel at anything or feel like it has a selling point compared to their 2000s electribe drum machines before they killed them off with the mediocre final models. Drumlogue is not bad, the ability to add user oscillators like the minilogue XD is a good feature but I’m not sure if it makes up for its other deficiencies. Korg made far more capable drum machines in the 2000s (especially for samples) with more character.
Interesting and fair take. I find the price point to be debatable though- it’s selling for 600 as compared to the Digitakt, which I agree is a stronger unit- but the price reflects that at 900.
Or maybe KORG USA will blow them out when they are discontinued like they did with with the huge stock of SQ-64s because didn't want to update the firmware and undercut their dealers and the used market.
My thing about this was there is just soooooooo many other better options out there with more versatility and functionality. Sorry man but korg missed the mark on this one.
Korg adding metal switches as seen in their other "louge" synths would have been a nice design choice here. But nooooooo. Lets put volca knobs on a non-volca device, lol Sh-4d seems like a better option for making drum sounds, compared to this 😎
The #1 complaint I've seen with the Drumlogue is "value for money". In a vacuum it's a great drum machine, but Korg tried to sell them for $600 putting them in roughly the same market sector as juggernauts like the Elektron Digitakt and the Roland TR-8S. Since then, Korg has basically slashed its price in half and it's become a significantly better value as a result.
It's a little behind of its time TBH - it should have been released years earlier IMO . Either way, it's got a quirky sound that a lot of people still like.
Because the sample playback side doesn't sound amazing compared to a digitakt. Analogue hats are also missing and the noise engine is not the same thing
@@LiamKillen drumlogue sounded suspiciously like the volca sample engine to me! You should also mention the borked output assignment e.g. no combined hats output or combined Toms.
I see a take that it sounds thin a lot, I can see what that is getting at but I feel like it depends whether you want drums to be able to smother a mix out of the box like an 808 or something. This sounds a lot like it’s supposed to succeed the electribe, this type of stuff is really good at horizontal complex stuff that’s unobtrusive in a mix but still a bit spicy 🤷
A bunch of people hear high clarity in something and call it "thin". They would like the "velvety goodness" of some lo-fi microphone from a $10 karaoke mini rig versus the awesome clarity of a Shure Beta52A or Sennheiser e945. Is that what you mean?
Sounds from Electribe + Volca drum + basic samling functionality with 32 mb of memory. And people still asking why this thing is underrated... Great job bro anyway.
Hello! I have a question for users of this drum machine: So, the body of my unit from below heats up quite noticeably Is this normal? Also the encoders under the display sometimes give erroneous values, for example when adjusting the amount of reverb or filter etc Are there similar nuances in your Drumlogue? 1.2.0 software, also i initialize full reset of device rotate the encoders both very quickly and very slowly, and it happens that I rotate the encoder to the right to increase the value, but sometimes it, on the contrary, abruptly changes downward this is weird Does this happen to you? and this drum machine heats up noticeably in the area of the plastic bottom, somewhat similar in temperature and sensation to heating a laptop

idk… That multi drive Nano synth engine that can add VST synth engines looks pretty versatile and flexible ! U can find a better analog drum sound and add it to this Korg to produce a great drum track i bet! 😊
I dunno…4 analog voices + four digital…for less than half the price, you could get the IK UNO Drum with 4 analog and 4 12-bit sampled drums…and who really uses the on board sequencer? I was excited about this device, upon release, but could not make it make sense after having the UNO Drum (ps: I do not use the UNO Drum pads).
I've watched several reviews and demos of this unit and still haven't heard a realistic snare drum or cymbal sound come out of it. It might be useful to some House or Electronic music composers, but definitely wouldn't cut it for rock or jazz or country or any other music genre. When will these manufacturers come up with a unit that sounds remotely close to an acoustic drum kit? I don't care about all the other crazy things it can do. Make something that sounds like real drums.
You’re addressing the main reasons I don’t like the sound of this instrument - really thin sounds. I shouldn’t have to coax the unit into doing its primary function. Some extra features are cool, but it’s called a DRUMlogue and it doesn’t really excel at its drum sounds. They’re always meh. It’s also way over priced for what you get, especially when you consider the competition for that same or near price. Digitakt is way better in every way, in my opinion.
sounds ok to me but really digging the sh-4d currently the drum section has good sound shaping capabilities this one sounds thin a little tin to me love the look though but has character
Its not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean its not good. Being based on analog circuits, you are stuck with the sounds, so you better like those sounds! Yeah, I agree they are trying to make this look like an Elektron product, which on one level makes sense for them, as Digitakts are very popular, but Korg has its own deep history it could draw on for styling, maybe its better that each manufacturer has its own look, less boring that way. The screen is way too small too, ok they use it cleverly but I'd rather pay more for quality, well built and designed gear!
I have zero interest in this device but I'm watching anyway because I love your content. My Syntakt sounds *so much* better than the Drumlogue in my opinion. Where's the grit? Where are the surprises? I just don't hear any wow sounds whatsoever. Even when you crank up the drive, the kick just sounds flat. Maybe with heavily sidechained production techniques it would sit well in a mix, like how Röyksopp manages to make their kicks almost disappear while still having a thump presence. I'm sure this is a lot cheaper than the Syntakt but based on how it sounds, I'd save up and buy pretty much any other drum synthesizer. But that's just me. 😊
It’s funny I find that the Syntakt sounds OKAY based on what I’ve tried, especially those chords and it doesn’t sample. Don’t get me wrong it’s way more capable but it’s also what- like double the price?
@@LiamKillen I think the Syntakt is like coffee or fine wine. The first times you try it you're like "what's wrong with people?" and then after a while you can't get enough of it. 😂
It sounds terrible on videos, sounds amazing in person. I have a Perkons tanzbar 2, and a ton of other really nice and high end drum machines. This sounds amazing and I agree it’s underrated.
They had great circuits all ready to go.... Just put a volca kick and bass and fixed volca beats in a box with a multiple bar sequencer and modern 24/96 sample playback engine. That would be worth £500+
Im sure all the expert's with strong opinions of judgement to the sound of the units. Are all pros of the audio industry, viewing these video's with hi end pro quality headphones making some choice decisions of critical analysis for us to benefit from their wisdom, lolol.
This is a complete waste of money. I am using a DAW to generate drum patterns and play them thru a Korg TR-Rack. The drum kits in the TR-Rack are just amazing and all the panning and effects are already done for you. Spend more time composing on a big screen instead of that tiny display and shift keys. BTW if you are any at all vision challenged, God help you with this device. Light gray lettering? Seriously I would have never let that past QC. For that amount they should have been backlit.
Unfortunately this device came over 2 years to late. The KORG drumlogue was relased after the KORG prologue which sadly missed a sequencer. At that time, the KARP Odyssey FS was delivered with the SQ-1 Bundle. KORG has been messing up a lot when it comes to facelifting lately. And it seems they continue so, with the rip-off mentality among limited editions and Mk-II models. Bugs are no longer fixed, UI/UX is hardly improved, and thus poorly supported models (i.e. self-inflicted) are immediately discarded and discontinued. IMO it makes no sense to buy a drumlogue with the electribe 2 as drum machine or other owned devices of 808/909 sounds in that pricerange. monologue prologue electribe 2 wavestate all og discontinued or updated the last 2 years. That's wickedness of KORG. I was long enough a KORG fanboy, but more and more i prefer moog gear and support - true, based and longterm.
Yeah a lot of people hold this same sentiment about the Drumlogue. By the way, I love discussions like this and if you'd like to get this sort of convo going in more of a responsive / community environment, hit up my Discord! Trying to bring more people over there! Here's the invite incase you're interested: discord.gg/xj8J2xJuBP
Electribe2 drums are fairly flabby and muddy compared to Drumlogue. Electribe2 isn't necessarily bad, but Drumlogue stands on its own and is in a different league of sound quality.
i bought it and am reaally trying to like it, but, its waaaay overpriced for what you get. It's been glitchy AF for me, in the wierdest of ways. The midi is a mess, Korg needs to pay some serious attention to the midi, like just trying to get a Nanopad 2 to trigger the drums is almost impossible, setting it to midi split channel 7-2 lets me play the vpm, noise and nano chromatically but forget trying to trigger drums. If someone can figure this out, please share, cause I'm sending it back next week and thats about the only thing that will save it from that demise. The FX are nothing special, sidechain I can't even hear it or get it to work most of the time. The compressor does absolutly NOTHING on my unit. File management is a joke. I have a few other gripes as well but whats the point. Korg dropped the ball hard on this release, specially so with the time and anticipation it took. If they don't start releasing big firmware updates like yesterday, to address all the issues and to bring out the potential in this box, they will deffinantly lose thier shirt on the Drumlogue. What a pity.....
T K: Thank you for your honesty. Korg lately has been very slow to release firmware fixes. They have released a blizzard of products but have cut corners on each and every one of them. Like the Nautilus with no after-touch as the successor to the Kronos. I love Korg and that is the brand I roll with, however there needs to be some honestly too that lately, they are more interested in feeding the GAS than checking off all the boxes for their serious and devoted user base.
@Harry W. Haines, III its still a great drum machine, the more it gets talked about on platforms such as this, the more likely Korg sees the interest on this box getting better. It has tons of potential, Korg just needs get on it....
I've got one.. Still looking for decent content to assist with getting the just of it.. Pity you didn't explore the sound creative ability more.. Basically your video says use better samples to replace the analog kick.. Lol.. Maybe you should have reviewed the digitakt instead.
is the "snappy" noise on the snare all digital noise options or is there an actual analog noise generator? Digital noise is cool layered prob, but is it really an analog snare without the analog noise source? Surely analog noise sounds different a bit? Also i dont give a shit about potential haters that may be about to comment to me about digital sounds exactly the same, you cant hear it blah blah blah. Pre-emptively response: go buy yourself an all digital drum machine and stfu.
The first four voices are fully analog, minus the transient thing which is a digital sound over top of the analog sound, which completely changes up the character.
You wanted to, "Give the Drumlogue some love..." Seriously? You Tube search demos of this drum machine, I'm certain you will find your demo to be the worst sounding demo of this drum machine. Not trying to throw shade, I'm just saying, it is what it is.
yeah the whole machine begs for outboard. a compressor on the BD (and some low eq)and mix and match difrent effects on the rest. but hey, thats what the outputs are for. as of right now i cant seem to find ANY drum machine i love. elektrons to tinny and digital, in a bad way, even the samples with the effects got that sound. I go for grooveboxes with sample play right now for the drum dutys@@LiamKillen

Thanks for your take- maybe they'll address some of these things with an update.
It's a full synth sdk, not only oscillator sdk like in minilogue xd. And this is a drum machine that's why there's no analog filter 🤦
The SDK synth has possibilities, but as others have said device is quite expensive. Wonder how well it would Midi with T-1.
It’s actually quite a bit cheaper then let’s say the Digitakt.
Yeah, I dig mine! I believe there will great updates. I do use a lot of drum machines in one beat, POs, Drumlouge, rd9, dr880, Volca sample2, akai 8 pad, SPX, Blackbox
Yeah you're stacked with dope drums it seems.
Nice of you to give Thomas a little greeting/shoutout @3:07
Pleasure! 🍻
I been toying with the idea of getting this. I like the workflow and seems easy to use but I’m still enjoying my TR-8s and I’d have to sample over my 707, 808, 909 sounds so….. do I really need it? But the synth is a massive plus
Yeah it's hard to beat the 8S for sure.
Amazing sounding machine, well designed, and great to pair with others as main sequencer ;)
It covers a good spectrum of sound and it also allow other instruments as audio in, in case you may be missing a certain sound palette.
It allows user samples, the filters sounds great, and I'm just missing more user synth like options...
Any of the people complaining about the sound did ever test it on big sound systems?
It's just a different sound . It's a bit quirky and that might be a sound that people are going for !
@@LiamKillen I've got different elektrons, and I'm pretty happy with the Drumlogue too. It can bang pretty hard if needed ;)
I've been making an hour of music per week with this thing. This video validates my feelings and turned me onto new ideas. My more basic use of the Dlog can be sampled here; www.youtube.com/@freezeframeandkirk3596/featured
Awesome! Glad that it's inspiring you :-)
It seems they wanted bits from various Elektron kit to sell at 2/3 of their midrange, but missed too many of those compelling features - particularly all the modulation.
Thanks for your addition on this :-)
This thing is awesome, cool machine 😎
Thx for watching :-)
Character has definitely been dulled down. Even a KPR-77 with a better kick would've done me.
can't they just give us the electribe we want?
Waiting for when Korg drops the price.
Aight
Or maybe KORG USA will blow them out when they are discontinued like they did with with the huge stock of SQ-64s because didn't want to update the firmware and undercut their dealers and the used market.
4/4 beats are so bored. Is it possible to change measure metrics? (say a 8/4 or a 6/4, others?)
8 / 4 is 4 / 4 just FYI - but ywah you can do odd times with the DrumLogue for sure.
This thing sounds dope to me. Much better than most other modern drum machines. I don't get why there are so many haters?
I think it's the workflow that's a little behind TBH. I actually also love how it sounds :-)
My thing about this was there is just soooooooo many other better options out there with more versatility and functionality. Sorry man but korg missed the mark on this one.
Maybe- I think it needs more love tbh
I just got it from Reverb. Love it to bits
Korg adding metal switches as seen in their other "louge" synths would have been a nice design choice here. But nooooooo. Lets put volca knobs on a non-volca device, lol
Sh-4d seems like a better option for making drum sounds, compared to this 😎
Hot take!
I find the digitakt sounds darker
@@LiamKillen drumlogue sounded suspiciously like the volca sample engine to me! You should also mention the borked output assignment e.g. no combined hats output or combined Toms.
this thing is extra-ordinary
It's pretty dope ! :-)
Interesting take and thanks for watching!
A bunch of people hear high clarity in something and call it "thin". They would like the "velvety goodness" of some lo-fi microphone from a $10 karaoke mini rig versus the awesome clarity of a Shure Beta52A or Sennheiser e945.
Is that what you mean?
Hello. Tell me, what are these spiral wires in the video? Can you tell me the name of the company? Thank you
I get most of my cables from MyVolts and those are called Candy Cords. Here's a link:
myvolts.com/CandyCords
Curious what the allure of this would be over something like the MPC One?
Completely different beast! Analog, more of an Elektron style sequencer workflow
Hi,how do you delete programs on the buttons
I got rid of the unit, so i'm not sure anymore !
Sounds from Electribe + Volca drum + basic samling functionality with 32 mb of memory. And people still asking why this thing is underrated... Great job bro anyway.
😏 thanks for watching 😊
Hello,
Can you help me to connect midi/sync the drumlogue to roland S-1? I tryed but when it seems connected coudn't not play patterns on roland S-1
Hello! I have a question for users of this drum machine:
So, the body of my unit from below heats up quite noticeably
Is this normal?
Also the encoders under the display sometimes give erroneous values, for example when adjusting the amount of reverb or filter etc
Are there similar nuances in your Drumlogue?
1.2.0 software, also i initialize full reset of device
rotate the encoders both very quickly and very slowly, and it happens that I rotate the encoder to the right to increase the value, but sometimes it, on the contrary, abruptly changes downward
this is weird
Does this happen to you?
and this drum machine heats up noticeably in the area of the plastic bottom, somewhat similar in temperature and sensation to heating a laptop
Hmmm maybe hit up my Discord. I haven't experienced this issue but maybe there's some users in the Discord who have run into this same issue: distrokid.com/vip/liamkillen
@@LiamKillen i return it to store and moneyback (my sample has been deliver absolutely new)
Also store sample device no have this issue, but have scratches and fingerprints
@@LiamKillen i have this issue with only right encoder under display
32 Mb of sample memory in the year 2024, no SD card slot and restrictions on assigning sounds to the aux outs. Worst of all, no song mode.
Yeah the memory is a little behind
Anyone know if there is a better way to adjust tempo? The tempo knob is not very exacting (or hard to be exacting)!
You can choose any tempo yo uwant with it though 🤔
@@LiamKillen Can you share how, ???,,,
because the tempo dial is so finnicky and hard to dial in specific tempos
the korg analog kick sounded better in the mix , than the sample kick you used afterward.
hell yeah it did.
Kudos for attempting to save the legacy of the Drumlogue
Not my cup of tea (sounds a bit 808ish), but I’m sure it is to some
It def has an old school quality to it
Good for house music 🎶
Absolutely.
Once I saw that clap was shortened to cp, I could not unsee :(
😂
What is it with KORG and snare drums…
I don’t know! You tell us! Lol
@@LiamKillenthey’re total shite.
No pads at all. Sounds are forgettable imo. The price is crazy high for what you get. Needs more sampling room.
Interesting take-
I think it needs to be priced at around $350 to actually sell.
It looks like they are selling though!
@@LiamKillen Maybe, what data do you have to support that its selling?
At this moment, Feb 2024, the lower price I've seen it's 435€, in Thomann and Amazon too, and I can't wait much more to have one...I Will buy It Next week.
idk… That multi drive Nano synth engine that can add VST synth engines looks pretty versatile and flexible !
U can find a better analog drum sound and add it to this Korg to produce a great drum track i bet! 😊
Hey ... you might be right.
Hey this a fair take man...
Yeah you'd have to sample in that case. It's a much more specific sounding drum machine. Very quirky.
I don’t know what people are talking about. I love mine.
And that's all that matters! :-)
Yeah it’s def not a banger drum machine- it’s dialed into softer tones.
The digitakt is great and my go to but it’s also 300$ more expensive.
@@LiamKillen I see DTs for $600 on reverb all day 🤷🏾♂️
Good 👍 one ☝️
Appreciate you! :-)
Totally underrated if you got those affiliate links popping. Be down for some transparency about how this is very obviously a commercial.
🤔 do you consider every review to be a commercial?
I think the analog drums sound fine. Especially for hip hop
Yeah it really depends how you use / layer them.
sounds ok to me but really digging the sh-4d currently the drum section has good sound shaping capabilities this one sounds thin a little tin to me love the look though but has character
I find the sh 4d sounds kinda thin too tbh!
@@LiamKillen fair enough
02:48 wakes fond memories of the Rhythm Wolf 😅🥲😌
🤔
This could have been a great machine if it had Sampling
yeah if it was more flexible in that realm it would def lvl it up.
Yeah that's the thing - if you really don't like the Analog tones and don't think that you can make them work, then maybe it's not the best option.
sounds great to me
it's really specific!
It depends who’s using it for sure. I find it’s like the syntakt you’ve gotta work it more but it delivers in its own unique, quirky way.
@@LiamKillen totally agree. Workflow isn’t my favorite, sound is really dang good.
@@LiamKillen The Syntakt. ❤❤❤
Yes totally slipped under the radar. It got character and is a drummachine not a groovebox.
It's very specific.
It just seems to me like an underwhelming device for the price.
I hear this take a lot
They had great circuits all ready to go.... Just put a volca kick and bass and fixed volca beats in a box with a multiple bar sequencer and modern 24/96 sample playback engine. That would be worth £500+
@@PorchBass good point
@@PorchBass electribe 3 instead of what we got
It’s not exactly expensive. I’m not sure I even like it really, but I’d say you get quite a lot of functionality for your £
Im sure all the expert's with strong opinions of judgement to the sound of the units. Are all pros of the audio industry, viewing these video's with hi end pro quality headphones making some choice decisions of critical analysis for us to benefit from their wisdom, lolol.
Yeah it's meant to give a general take on the instrument - the best way to reallt know is of course to try it out for yourself :-)
I guess it's not for everybody!
IMO it makes no sense to buy a drumlogue with the electribe 2 as drum machine or other owned devices of 808/909 sounds in that pricerange.
monologue
prologue
electribe 2
wavestate all og discontinued or updated the last 2 years. That's wickedness of KORG.
I was long enough a KORG fanboy, but more and more i prefer moog gear and support - true, based and longterm.
Yeah a lot of people hold this same sentiment about the Drumlogue.

Aw man I’m sorry to hear about this!
And also thank you for your take on this!
This video says - just buy something else. Like a TR8s.
Tr-8s is pretty dope 😏
focus the camera and use the main outputs...
basically your saying this drum machine sounds sh^t until you added your own samples....hummm..

Pity you didn't explore the sound creative ability more.. Basically your video says use better samples to replace the analog kick.. Lol.. Maybe you should have reviewed the digitakt instead.
@@LiamKillen my opinion of your video.. You don't have to agree
Korg is never going to top the ER-1
I think you might be right.
the kicks too flabby
Yeah that’s why I resorted to using a kick sample instead at the end and essentially using the analog kick as a third Tom
is the "snappy" noise on the snare all digital noise options or is there an actual analog noise generator?
*throws mad shade while "not trying to throw shade" *
@@LiamKillenlmao why is every comment so brutal. The video does a fine job demonstrating it imo
