- As you know, the Dying Light 2 grappling hook was nerfed in a recent patch, which has really affected its gameplay. Especially for the speedrunning community. However, you can still exploit the grapple hook mechanic to give you an advantage. Not to mention it's still great for combat and general spiderman webswinging.

From the first time I used the grappling hook I thought you should be able to climb up it. Aiden can do all this superhuman parkour, but he can't climb a rope. That's how grappling hooks are used lol.

exactly. if you don't want us to use a grappling hook like a grappling hook, don't put it in the game. find some other way to tell your story.
The parkour in this game is wonky at best. The fact that you CAN'T climb it is a spit in the face to fans. 😂

@itachisasku it doesn’t ruin gameplay, did you forget about parkour? there are many other ways to scale buildings.

DL2's is made to work with parkour,not replace it

I’ve known about this ever since I got the grappling hook. I had the glitch where I couldn’t upgrade my night runner tools so I couldn’t bungee jump like others could. This method can be annoying sometimes because if you’re climbing a building and you grapple to close to yourself it doesn’t hook on to the wall and you’ll fall. Besides that this is a great vid!
OMG I never thought someone could do that (maybe speed running isn't dead).

*Obviously* it depends on your stat bonuses but it should be mentioned “if you slow down a bit during the wall running portions you can regain a small amount of stamina letting you get a couple more wall climb’s in if you are a lower level.”
Good combo, much more realistic, been loving the update! The korek charm is also getting changed (since the big man himself didn't even know it was changed) and so excited to see what's coming up next! Love your content, keep it up!

It's also better with the wall run jump skill which lets you run up a wall and then jump a little bit higher, then use the hook
I use the grappling hook like this since I first got it. I used it before upgrading it to help me get into the developer room this way.

This is how I was using it, I didn't know why people were complaining lol I can get up buildings just fine
It took me a few days to realize how to use the grappling hook "properly" before. I was doing this the whole time prior and yet somehow I completely forgot you could do it this way lol
I can't do it at all. For some reason, it won't pull me up at all.
Finally someone adapting to the changes instead of crying about it
I think needed to touch something in some form to recharge the restriction was a good plan, you can spin around an entire building by wall running and it adds a little more challenge to the mix. I probably still prefer climbing up there myself and using the grapple hook as an assist.

Honestly I’ve learned this method ever since I climbed to the top of that giant bridge above the water in DL1 Wall run, grapple, repeat till it needs to recharge. I barely found out you could “web zip” like the day before it got patched. Lmao I miss feeling like Spider-Man though.
I actually discovered this during my play through it helps alot during certain situations

I legit didn’t even know there was another way until after the patch, and I only discovered that way by watching one of those level 1 noob vs level 100 god videos of grappling. The level 1 was this and the 100 was just a parkour montage.

Ha tic tak saves the day once more remember dying Light 1 where everyone hated tic tak yet i constantly found use for it
You could do this before the update, the old tactic was really stupid because it was easy to run out of stamina halfway through, this one its way harder
I haven't played DL2 for a few days, and seeing what they did to the hook makes me less eager to enter the game XD.

Honestly, I don't think they'll nerf this method - this is the way i've used the hook to scale buildings quickly since i got it and, to me at least, it really doesn't feel like an exploit or unintended use. I for sure could be wrong, but it 'feels' like an intended use gameplay-wise just because it flows very well - and it's (somewhat) more realistic by comparison

See everybody! The Grappling Hook isn't ruined, ya just gotta use it much more differently now.
Besides, we've still got MUCH bigger fish to fry. Like the Sunken Airdrop & Korek Charm nerf. I've also heard that the Renegades got a pretty sizable increase in their damage too.
If you actually swing along the building.. reverse mid air (which is a double jump) .. and repeat... you get the same effect

@@emivideo1966 I also found out your Block is your Brake for your hangglider.. if you mess with it you can maneuver crazy.. like shoot straight up instead of forward..especially over air ducts... hold Block just as you open Glider, an shoot straight up... and you can also release ,press reverse, and open back up your Glider without losing height.. because your reverse jump acts like a double jump... like jumping off a balcony, and reverse jumping will get you to the level Above you! ..
I’ve never experienced how the grappling hook was before the nerf because I just got the grappling hook yesterday, it doesn’t feel useless but it’s hard to use and I feel like bungee jumping a building instead would be more fun anyway

they are probably going to remove the wall running now, because it's fun, therefore has to be tweaked
The devs are going to win this game because they want to force people to play the game the way they want them to. Treating it like a multiplayer game with all of these stupid nerfs.
Seriously though man, something that’s bugging me right now is how they changed the repair charm, I get it should cost something but theres no reason it should cost what it does currently.
*dying light one* repair cost (one) scrap
*dying light two* repair cost (six hundred sixty-six) scrap.
That’s some serious down grading. I get ones “unlimited” and the other is only “3-5” repair but I’d either accept D1’s repair back or lowering the cost from “700” down to just 100 hundred.
Because in DL1 it was a built in feature, in DL2 it was a secret dev item. Still feel like they shouldn't have added the scrap cost because its a secret dev item, if they had just made it a post storyline only item that would've been a better middleground.
Awesome tutorial. Just got the grappling hook and was confused on how to use it..
They should at least increase the momentum you gain for swinging normally with it, it does feel sluggish and like it would be faster to just run instead of swing more often than not
Also Grappling hook + drop kick is quite op

Speaking of randomly flying off. One time i had this weird bug where it was like gravity got turned to a million and i went fast as light down to the ground and died. I was immediately like Game Of The Year XD

I made it easier for me. I disconnected my xbox when i heard about the update now im still on the old version and can still use everything like grapplinghook climb
I was wondering what would happen if you didn't download the new update. I'm on PS5 and you can just pause the update and even cancel/delete it the update. But I was wondering if their would be any future issues like online play if you don't have the newest version?

I had just gotten the korek charm and I saw that they needed it an I'm so pissed especially because I had waited until the epilogue to get it
I don’t understand why people use this grappling hook like the one from the first game. People seemed quite pleased with the addition of the new variant, and I personally like using it like spiderman swinging from building to building whenever I can lol.
I love how people shit on the grappling hook saying it's "not realistic" or "it's trash" even though it does work pretty alright, and isn't meant to be used for cheesing through all sorts of buildings and shit lol.

Unpopular opinion: I like DL2's grappling hook a lot more, and I think its parkour overall is much better.

they have only nerfed the succeeding pulls , the first pull is the same as the previous version.

I still use it horizontally its faster to go up sure but that's now how it was meant to be used in the first place so I think folks are just being ridiculous
