I wish someone would give Ralph the time and money to remake the film how it was originally supposed to be.

I'd like to think that had he crossed the Atlantic to the UK, there'd have been some very, very trippy British kids TV shows that Americans would know all about and Ralph would have had much greater creative freedom with lower budgets (paid for by some very bawdy adverts) and Cool World would have been produced exactly how Ralph wanted it to be.
...all of this would result, of course, in Americans having some very good reasons to always cast us Brits as the bad guy as in *HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR CARTOONS AND HOW THEY ADVERTISE SHIT?!?!*
Or if he did what Don Bluth did and went to Ireland where Irish animation would be booming and have the reputation of *THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON TOO MUCH GUINNESS!!!!!!*

Bryan Egelhoff's Animation Tech Nation You're not alone, *I* curse Frank Mancuso Jr. for what he did, too. 😠 Now a while back, I emailed Bakshi Productions, Inc. asking if Ralph himself would consider remaking "Cool World" the way he originally intended. The answer I got was...'NO.'
While that *is* disappointing, I for one respect Ralph's decision, especially with him just recently turning the big 80. It's become clear that post-"Last Days of Coney Island," in his golden years, he wants to solely focus on painting.
I say if "Cool World" *is* to get a second chance, then the directorial reins should be handed over to another director, one who understands what Ralph originally had in mind and who could really do it justice. Also, I think enough people need to collectively raise their voices as loud as possible so that someone will at long last listen and seriously consider it.

I feel bad for Ralph. He wanted to make a career out of what he loved and be successful at it, but he only had the chance to really shine in the 70s and after that, it was pretty much over. I guess he was way too ahead of his time.

Silver lining (sort of), Cool World introduced me to Ralph Bakshi. My parents bought it for me as a kid because they assumed it was like Roger Rabbit... I loved the style and led me to discover his other films (as well as realise he had created other films I'd already seen like Lord of the Rings and Wizards). Many 90s kids had a similar experience and also discovered Bakshi through Cool World.

I just finished reading Catcher in the Rye in my English class. I liked it. Oh, and something I should note is that when we finished reading Chapters 19-21, my teacher gave us a "reading quiz", in that we were given panel sheets, and in each of the panels, we had to draw specific scenes from the chapters, without looking back in the book, to prove that we read them. I drew all the characters as anthropomorphic animals with stylized expressions.

Please do a future Animation Lookback on the Fleischer Brothers (Max and Dave Fleischer) and Fleischer Studios. The Fleischers seriously deserve one at this point. The company today is mostly forgotten and faded into obscurity but at one point they we're major rivals with Disney before Warner Bros came around with Looney Tunes. Since it's close to Christmas, one of the Fleischer Brothers even made the very first animated adaptation of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in 1944. 20 years before the well-known TV special by Rankin-Bass.

When I was a kid, I always had the biggest fascination with Cool World when it came out. The visuals of the toon world were so god damn awsome, I had gotten a set of promotional postcards with the concept art of the dark, twisted toon city-scape and it became such an inspiration to me. While the overall directing of the final product really fell apart in the real-world segments, I still liked the final merging of realities sequence near the end and the overall plot of the film, both the original Bakshi concept and the one we got. Cool World and also some of his older works, are why I was rather upset he never got the chance to do some kind of twisted Don Bluth style laser-disc game like Dragon's Lair.

Thing about John K.. he was looking for young women to work in his new studio in Florida in 2017. He contacted me thru twitter and eventually emailed me and even shared a phone call with me. I was 21, but I look younger than my age, and he sought other younger female artists. I knew this because I heard of no male artist he was interested in, and I know many supremely talented guys who can nail John’s style. Only women, from mid-twenties to a freaking 17 year old. Katie Rice told me about him and I stopped chatting with John altogether. I’m glad he got outed. He really needs help, but I doubt he’d make any more work in this industry.

Even before his penchant for young women came out John was known for being difficult to work with because of being far too much of a perfectionist, Billy West swore off ever working with him again after numerous confrontations during Ren and Stimpy.

Spice City was ahead of it's time. It would be very easy seeing it as a series on Netflix or some streaming service. It was basically an animated Black Mirror.

Bro! I love what you do here, Ralph Bakshi is my second favorite director and I have all his movies, its sad how live treated him but he always take advantage of all, even standing in the ground he make a great job (even cool world is beautiful in an artistic way)
    Respect for this great men!!!
