Had to re-upload it due to a minor issue I noticed but it had less than 20 views at the time. Enjoy! There is a little bonus content at the end if you can find it ;-)
I really appreciate your video's. It's wonderful I can learn the operation of an aircraft when the game offers no tutorial. This allows me to focus on missions and immerse myself into the realm of WW1 air combat. Thank you for all the time you take to make these invaluable videos.
There are some great tutorial missions created by a friend of mine "Utopioneer" that are a form of flight school which complement my videos very nicely. Feel free to join my Discord where you can find them easily discord.gg/rPQCjch
+RequiemBoS *The Fokker D. VI and Dr. I are both featured in the **_Rise of Flight_** series.* The available instrumentation was quite primitive in the 1910's and oftentimes all over the cockpit. Actually, holding the blip switch (which shorts the magnetos) too long doesn't starve the engine of fuel; it fouls the plugs with excess fuel and castor-bean oil lubricant.
Yep I know about the Fokker Dr.1 in Rise of Flight. I made videos for it several years ago on my old channel ;-) Bad choice of words on my part regarding starvation as the fuel still flows for a fire risk if used for too long (this isn't modeled in the game).
Nice one Req! Thanks for this. All I gotta do is actually GET Flying Circus now!! I've got RoF but this is a must. Not too bothered about Tank Crew but then hey, it takes all sorts, don't it? You doing one on the A8 sometime soon by the way?
Cheers Raptor, I know I made videos like these for Rise of Flight but they really need to be refreshed as we move forward with Flying Circus. I'm not too fussed about tanks either but hopefully they attract some treadheads. They look great so I'm sure word will spread about them. I haven't started work on the G-14 or A-8 yet. I want to get the Spad done before those two as its a new airframe. The "Learn to fly.." videos are the easiest for me to get out though so shouldn't be too long, but I've just been focusing on the basic fighter maneuvering videos recently which take up a lot more of my time.
Great video, as always. I follow you since your tutorials for RoF, but now I can't find the old videos anymore. Did you put them offline? I think they're still a great guide for RoF begginers.
Enrique Alonso they are still there on my old channel. The only ones I removed were the spad and dr1 familiarisation/landing videos, and those were replaced in the playlists by these two new ones
Great video, i just have one issue, when I'm flying the dr1 it tends to pull up very strongly so i have to push down on the elevator quite a lot. Any solution for that? Am i just too stupid?
Hi, Thanks for the video I have a question this bird. I would love to fly her but during flight I almost need to push the stick almost all the way forward to keep the nose level. If I leave the stick neutral I get immediately 30-45 degrees nose up and it keeps doing this. I do not see any trim settings on the plane. What am I doing wrong? This is the only plane in flying circus Vol1 acting like this.
"Turns better to the right than to the left" - how so? The engine spins to the right from the pilot's perspective, which means the counter force (torque) is trying to roll the plane to the left.
Your english is fine Juan! As far as realism both the flight models of RoF and FC are supposed to be the same according to the developers, but the airplanes look much nicer inside FC. I haven't made a detailed comparison yet to verify the FMs though.
Both he and I are real pilots. I do have a tailwheel endorsement and have time in tailwheel aircraft. I do not believe the WW2 aircraft in DCS World are very well modeled in their flight model however the IL-2 Series is about as close as it gets that I have ever experienced. WW1 aircraft were normally aerodynamicley tailheavy many had NO pitch trim so they were literally a hand full. The ailerons were the old barn door type so lots of rudder WAS also needed on the real ones too. I love both the WW1 AND WW2 aircraft.
Hey Jughead, this is not quite RoF but Flying Circus where they are bringing over some RoF content into the current IL-2 engine. Yeah I'm a pilot :-) CFI, MEI, CFII and flying a CRJ-900 as an airline pilot now...a long way since I started out as a non-pilot in Rise of Flight!
I don't believe it was a common installation to have it. The artificial horizon is a modification you can add to the airplane, which usually means that at some point a Dr.1 had it based on the developers research.

juckyvortex it does have a real throttle as well, the blip switch is handy in conjunction with it to further decrease thrust or rapidly cut throttle in fights.
@@isaacmcpeek9636 Look at the control column. That wooden grip on the left is the throttle. You just don't get the sort of (lower) range you would on an inline engine. Meaning the engine will still generate some thrust, even with the throttle at its lowest setting. At least that's how it is in RoF ... never having used a rotary in RL, I'm not sure how accurate this behaviour in game is, so: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_engine#Rotary_engine_control

All your "learn how..." videos help me to enjoy the sim in a much better way. Thanks!
LOVED the vid....about the ONLY place you can find make sense explanation of how the Dr. I works
THANK You
Glad you liked it, thanks!

Nice job

well I guess I'll try your method for my first flight, thx
Good tutorial!

You're right, I thought this was the same channel with new name, not a completely new channel. I bookmarked your old channel too. Thanks!
Great! Thanks.
Great video, i just have one issue, when I'm flying the dr1 it tends to pull up very strongly so i have to push down on the elevator quite a lot. Any solution for that? Am i just too stupid?
It's how it is. There's no trim in the Dr.1 so if you want to avoid having to hold a lot of forward stick to stay level you need to fly slower.
very nice ty but able on apple pc's ...........
Hi, Thanks for the video
I have a question this bird.

You're not doing anything wrong, that's just how the Dr1 flies. There's not many WWI planes which have any form of trim
Do you know the most efficient power settings?
Turns galore
"Turns better to the right than to the left" - how so? The engine spins to the right from the pilot's perspective, which means the counter force (torque) is trying to roll the plane to the left.
It's time to the Peashooters War.
Good thing the targets only have canvas as protection for the most part...otherwise a fight may take all day :-)
Excellent yessss
what you think about realism? which do you prefer, Rof or FC?
sorry for my english
gracias.

Good old ROF. Are you a pilot irl Req?

Cool! : ) I passed my medical then gave up cause I could not afford flight lesson costs lol. I tip my hat to you!
Fokker had artificial horizon IRL?
I don't believe it was a common installation to have it. The artificial horizon is a modification you can add to the airplane, which usually means that at some point a Dr.1 had it based on the developers research.
Could you help me get started in TAW anyone?

The Air Combat Tutorial Library thanks
I thought this was Rise of flight!
Yeah it's pretty close but these Flying Circus airplanes have come out pretty good in the Il-2 engine. We just need more content for it.
Wait. So this thing hasn't even a real throttle?
juckyvortex it does have a real throttle as well, the blip switch is handy in conjunction with it to further decrease thrust or rapidly cut throttle in fights.
Nope none of the rotary engined planes did just a blip throttle otherwise they ran 'em wide open
