My 285D had a lot of bad solder joints on the syscon/relay board that I reflowed years ago to make the transport work properly again. But, You helped me! Since I fixed it, mine has been sitting in the corner of the basement because I hated the way the left channel sounded once it first reversed (in and out/muddy). I'm going after the head switching relay that you showed! Thanks!
I got that answer on Tapeheads. The guy there said that you could just pull the relay out and put jumpers in. All the relay did was flip the channels at the output.
Hi, do you have the video part where you remove the Akai gx-285D box? I needed to know what the screws are? Thank you and congratulations for your work on the videos
Hi, congratulations for the competence of the gx 285. I have one too and I would like to ask you a question about its functioning in "rev". After a certain time of operation it stops and starts playing in "fwd", could you tell me what is wrong? Thanks

Patrick O'Connell ahhh and then right will be left and vice versa in reverse? Sounds fine to me!
Good job, Pat! That sandpaper worked wonders! Thanks for the tip!
It's hard to do any damage with 3000 and 5000 grit sandpaper.
Good job! I like that the boards just slip in and out very convenient!I had an M-10 that was like that.Cheers

Nice video! I have one GX-285D and the motors seem weak. The tape always needs a little push. Can anyone help me on this problem?
Awesome job! Very cool it pops apart, easy repair! ~Jack, VEG
Yes I like Akai's for that.
@@patrickoconnell3896 I like that most of the boards pop in and out.
Good video very interesting and informative.
Thank you

And I haven't heard Ten Years After in ages!
