I graduated high school in 2000, so these are the hit songs of my early adulthood. But I didn’t listen to this stuff. I only knew it from watching MTV. I listened to indie stuff and stayed pretty far away from pop. The most mainstream I got was stuff like System of a Down and Foo Fighters. And I liked a Natasha Bedingfield song or two.
It's so interesting the songs that seemed to have endured over time. I consider music from 1995-2005 (as well as all of Mariah's music from 1990 and up) as "My music era". Bands like Savage Garden were so big then, but it seems their music didn't endure. I've not seen a single reactor remember "I knew I loved you". Not the biggest song of the decade by any means but surprised no one has known them. Also so surprised that most have not known gigantic bands like Bon Jovi and U2.
I watched a bunch of other people react to this list and I feel like y'all are communicating with each other beforehand, so you know which songs to know and which wants not to.
Sorry, but to me this is the decade Pop music turned to crap, with just a few exceptions... (I know it's probably because I'm old...)

And Hoobastank's "The Reason". That's an incredible song. We still blast it anytime it comes on. Highly recommend listening to that one.
