Nice overview however the critical part of winding the string on the tuner pole is so quick it is hard to follow how the new string is positioned on the tuner so it does not generate any slipping later on.
The ball slot should be parallel to the string. I remember someone showing how this improved tuning stability. Also, what's the point of cutting the strings by the bridge? Just unwrap from tuner and pull through.
I think there my be a faster way. I saw this on UA-cam recently. Set the tuner so the string hole is at a right angle to the neck. For the three bass strings pull the string tight and against the inside of the tuner post. By hand, wind the end of the string twice anticlockwise around the tuner post. Hold those two loops in place under the hole in the post while inserting the end of the string through the hole and pulling it taught. Tighten the tuner from the button to bring the string up to tune. Cut off the excess string. Repeat for the treble strings but wind those clockwise around the post. Perhaps use more turns on the fine plains. Correct and neat string installation is vital if you want stable and smooth tuning.
Hi, your tutorial was going so well until the advertisement PG win a guitar, blocks the exact moment where I have difficulty on the screen. I don't understand why, but I can string the E,A,D without a problem, but when I go over to the other tuning knobs, I get confused. Once I thread the G, B, e, (individually) do I bend the string now to the left-the outside of the guitar headstock, turn the stringwinder clockwise, making sure the end of string goes over the new string where I would hold it down? Also, for some reason, can you give pointers as when I put on my B, I broke the string near the tuning peg. And when I put on my e, it kept unraveling and was a total crimping mess. Do you have a video that is not obscured with ads so I can see the process more closely. I appreciate your time. Thank you.
I can't for the life of me figure why people cut the strings when removing them from an acoustic. You can easily get enough slack to unwind them from the tuner post then remove them from the bridge. No cutting required.

Most people do not realise that the taper or scoop on tuner posts is designed to cause the string to friction lock itself in place as tension is applied. You can apply all kinds of knotting techniques, but generally most ordinary tuners perform well when the stings are carefully and neatly installed with only two or three stacked turns, so the string loops around the post can slide and constrict around the post.

Yes, the tuners can be turned by hand, it will just take a bit longer
