I couldn't agree more. Also, we've had so many guignols in terms of staff for the last 10 years (jeez... I'll remember my whole life the shame we've all been feeling here during the 2015 rwc quarter finals against NZ...). Galthie, Edwards, Ibanez, and the others... they all sound so professional and competent in comparison, we want to believe in them.

      Here 9 months later...
I wonder whether, beyond any personal view of the game of rugby these previous coaches might have wanted to plan and implement, which view was very different from one coach to the other, none of them was GIVEN the RIFHTFUL MEANS in order to win anything. Furthermore, the skirmishes between league and federation, the lack of financial means forced them to constant bricolage(to stay in tune with the hosts!) despite talented players.
It will have taken ten years- ten years!- of national shame plus the prospect of the wrc at home approaching fast for these instances to be put at the bottom of a wall they had built and in front of the obvious : they had to cooperate even if at minima and put some money even if reluctantly.
I am not sure France will win the 2023 wrc, even with the talented work-addicted Fabien Galthié and this new generation of players, my fear being that during this 10 years gap the game has evolved and the other nations, especially the SH ones, did not wait for us.
I pray for Galthié keeping his magic and thriving despite trapdoors under his feet.

Fabien Galthié coaches the way Greg Popovitch coaches the San Antonio Spurs. Military but loves his players

Why do the french have such raw talent, you’d think it would be England given the higher playing numbers

I actually think that France has the most registered Rugby players in the world in front of South Africa and England (according to ruck website - 2017)

I would argue about something else, but I'm not really sure about that one... In France, rugby is a very popular sport. Most of the kids playing rugby are not coming from wealthy families and are not going to fancy schools. It's not posh to play rugby in France. Plus, people are so passionate about it... So that a lot of those kids dream about becoming a professional rugby player (I was basically the same when I was 8...). Not about becoming a medical doctor, or something else, but playing in top14 and winning the Brennus shield. I know my explanation sounds fairly 'classist' (I'm basically saying that wealthy kids are less likely to become professional athletes, and that in a lot of other countries, on average the kids playing rugby are coming from a wealthier family than in France), but I believe it makes the 'potential reservoir' much bigger than it looks like. I don't know if that makes sense to you guys...

@@julientranchida4004 totally true, and I think a lot of Brits don't understand that. It's not posh at all in France. If anything it's more regional. Depending on where you live, the number 1 sport is either rugby or football. And sometimes, you can't really understand why. I mean Toulon is only 70 km from Marseille. But Marseille is football-nuts while Toulon is only about rugby!

@@croulantroulant3082 @Julien Tranchida Totally agree with you. The specificity of France is that you have entire areas in France where they don't know about football and everybody plays Rugby! I live in Perpignan, if you need examples... 😋
