SMG and SMG2's soundtracks are still unmatched for me in the Mario series. They blew my mind back in the day, and I still love them. There's a lot of great music for a part 2. If I were to pick five, I'd probably pick Bowser's Galaxy Generator, Cloudy Court Galaxy, Puzzle Plank Galaxy, Slipsand Galaxy, and Staff Credits. And you'd still be missing quite a few great songs.

If you do a part 2 to this, I would definitely recommend listening to Slipsand Galaxy, and Cloudy Court Galaxy. Both of these are GLORIOUS.

That Mario Kart 8 familiarity you may be associating with Sky Station Galaxy 1 is the soundtrack for the Cloudtop Cruise course, which interpolates part of the SMG theme. I'm glad to see that this masterpiece of a soundtrack is still being appreciated to this day!!
Edit: Also, if you're looking for more good tracks from the SMG2 OST, I recommend Fleet Glide Galaxy.
Sky Station Galaxy is actually two different pieces, that one you skipped to and then didn't finish was an entirely separate piece called "The Starship Sails." The first one you did hear all the way through plays on the first mission, while the other one plays on the second. Both are really good but they are different pieces there.
My list/recommendations for a part 2:
Galaxy 2 Credits - A beautifully orchestrated version of previous themes from this game and the first game (my personal favorite song)
Bowsers Galaxy Generator: The final levels theme. Orchestra song that’s not at all what you’d expect the final level to be. (my personal second favorite song)
Space Storm Galaxy: A dark but very pretty theme
“Hurry!” (yes that’s the name of it): Something not at all sounding from a Mario game. Meant to cause stress and the feeling of speeding up
Digga Leg: Funky boss theme
World 6 theme: Hauntingly beautiful theme
World S: String based remix of Gusty Garden
Sky Station Galaxy has a very similar vibe to Gusty Garden Galaxy which is a major bop from SMG1. Also, the term you're looking for with the harp is "Arpeggio".
Sky Station Galaxy is pretty much Gusty Garden Galaxy version 2. Very similar songs, both amazing 😃.

There's still so many great SMG and SMG2 themes left! Bowser's Galaxy Reactor in SMG1, Bowser's Galaxy Generator in SMG2, Space Storm Galaxy in SMG2, World 6 Map in SMG2... just fantastic soundtracks and love the reactions.
Such a feels good OST. I remember Mario Galaxy 2 helped me through some dark times.
Fun fact: If you were riding Yoshi, you can hear some bongos in the background of the galaxy themes.
bowser’s theme is always the best! if you do part 2 i recommend puzzle plank galaxy, its a lot different from all the other songs and a real pleasure to listen to
SO glad you listened to cosmic cove, easily my favorite, it's heavily underrated since people tend to like the more energetic tracks, but it's just SUCH a good vibe I can listen for hours

Phenomenal sequel and amazing music every time. That final boss phase music is beyond insane and the fact it is from a Mario game is incredible. I get goosebumps every time
Fun fact, typically, the final boss theme would play for about 1½ minutes tops, because the battle is just that easy.

11:45 As an ex-trombone player, I love those glissandi in Melty Monster Galaxy. And the dynamics, like the sforzando at 12:08 are beautiful. My favorite song in both Galaxy games, the low brass is just amazing.

I would recommend the ARMS soundtrack.
Despite there not being much songs, there’s still a lot of theming behind the tracks
Space storm, puzzle plank, slimy spring, spin dig, freezy flake, slipsand, bowser jr’s fort and hightail falls are also some bangers from this game if you ever make a part 2.

SMG2 is THE childhood Mario game for me. I never played 1 until I got in on Wii U virtual console close to the end of the Wii U's lifespan. But Galaxy 2 man, ohhhhh Galaxy 2. I adore this game. The soundtrack is soooo damn good, just like its predecessor, but personally I think it exceeds it.
As you've said you're doing a part 2, here's some suggestions: (I had written some justifications to my choices but you might prefer to have no context so I'll paste them super far down so don't scroll if you don't want them).
- Cloudy Court Galaxy / Fluffy Bluff Galaxy (I'm not sure which is the offical name, it's used in both)
- Puzzle Plank Galaxy
- Megahammer
- Time Attack
- Bowser's Galaxy Generator
IF YOU WANT ZERO CONTEXT TO THESE THEMES THEN DON'T READ ANY FURTHER:
Suggestions with reason, and therefore slight context:
- Cloudy Court Galaxy / Fluffy Bluff Galaxy (I'm not sure which is the offical name, it's used in both) (It's essentially the Gusty Garden Theme equivalent for SMG2).
- Puzzle Plank Galaxy (Just because it's a really fun cheerful tune).
- Megahammer (In my opinion, the most iconic boss in the game).
- Time Attack (As the name implies, plays during timed challenge missions, but I think it is a WONDERFUL piece of music that really gets you on the edge of your seat while playing to not run out of time).
- Bowser's Galaxy Generator (It's a fantastic theme for the climax of Mario's journey in the game).
These songs have areas and levels that look like their songs, here’s what the areas look like:
Title screen: the title in front of a blue sky with clouds and planets, you should listen to the file select version of this
Sky station: typical space station style in earth’s orbit, with a space base, yoshi’s house, bullet bills, green planets and star bits. The first song is the first 2 levels, the second song is the third level.
Yoshi star: grassland planet with Yoshi, fruit, a volcano, spiny enemies and jungle assets.
Cosmic cove: your typical swimming level in a cove in space which introduces you to swimming for the first time. It has coral reef area inside along with some of the most beautiful areas in the game. It has puzzles and also a button that turns the water to ice, there’s penguins on the planet but there’s no other planets for miles, definitely empty.
Melty monster: fire level with lava and lightning, this level is the first in the final world. One of the hardest levels in the game, it has a bowling challenge which is just awesome. One of my favourites.
Final bowser: simple really, you fight a giant bowser. I thought an idea of visuals would help with the songs feel. Great video
the mario kart theme you talked about in the sky station galaxy part is Cloudtop Cruise from the Special Cup
I love how Melty Monster Galaxy includes the SMG1 theme before the loop

7:33 - 8:56 - 9:28 I highly recommend you add this to your library for those times when you feel stressed out about anything just a bit too much. You will be soothed in seconds.
Cloudtop Cruise is probably the course you were reminded of from Mario Kart 8, the same one that has the Gusty Garden jingle in it.
To me, a lot of French horn use makes Sky Station sound like a song meant to be in the clouds. IT was the same for Zelda Skyward Swords' flying theme.
You’ll definitely enjoy reacting to the credits of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Also check out songs like Puzzleplank Galaxy, Starshine Beach Galaxy, Fleet Glide Galaxy, and Beat Block Galaxy!
This and the first Galaxy game are my childhood. Most of their soundtracks are my comfort music 😌

For a part 2. I recommend listening to Puzzle Plank, Cloudy Court, Galaxy Generator, & World 3.
That opening theme is my childhood.
One reason why Galaxy 2 sounds like the original is due to the fact the game is built off of the first game. They had so many ideas for the first game and so little time that they eventually just decided to build off of the first game's mechanics and try to get in everything they missed the first time around, such as the cover child of this game, Yoshi.
The game was initially called Super Mario Galaxy More (Super Mario Galaxy 1.5) but eventually they made so many changes that it turned into a sequel instead.
I also don't suppose I need to mention that Fleet Glide, Puzzle Plank, and Bowser's Galaxy Generator are fan favorite themes from this game.
If you do a part 2, please give a listen to the world themes as well! They're all fantastic!
PLEASE do a part 2 for this!!! You have to listen to Slipsand Galaxy and Space Storm. The second is my personal favorite.
both SMG 1 and 2’s final bower themes open with the same motifs but they go in very different directions. The first games was was kinda techno and much more menacing, whereas this one is orchestral and triumphant. Its been a while since i played SMG2, but im pretty sure the final bowser fight starts out the same as the first games, playing the same music, only to surprise you with a new second phase, at which point SMG2’s final bowser theme kicks in. In that sense, this games version is part 2, and when you listen to em back to back, phase one being menacing techno, phase 2 being a triumphant orchestra is just awesome. The channel Gametal put out a cover a while back where he combined the two that i highly recommend checking out on your own time, its still my favorite version of those tracks.
Personally i hear a lot of Gusty Garden Galaxy in skystation with the orchestral setup. They share similar bits here and there
If you do a part 2, i really recommend checking out Cloudy court galaxy, Bowsers galaxy generator, Staff credits, Starshine beach galaxy, Puzzle plank galaxy and World 3 theme. Also Freezy flake galaxy, Fleet glide galaxy, Wild glide galaxy and "Luma and the hat".

Ahhh dang. The part 2 of Sky Station Galaxy was a completely different song, being The Starship Sails. It plays on the second star on Sky Station Galaxy, it’s really good.
Highly Highly recommend the soundtrack for Bowser's Fury for a future video. Especially any of the themes associated with Bowser.

This is one of my favourite OSTs in gaming, which is also a reason why it's one of my favourite games of all time. I know another OST that you can listen to. The one from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness, Time and Sky.

I would like to recommend two games' music,one is the game Omori (the character from my profile picture is from that),be aware that it has darker themes,and the other game is Metroid Prime,regarded by many as having one of the best soundtracks in gaming history.
I would HIGHLY recommend listening to The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, Halo 3: ODST and, Sonic Colors music. Beautiful and amazing sound tracks!

You need to do a part 2 purely to hear Rosalinas theme, based on how much you liked that the observatory theme in galaxy 1 was a waltz.
Would recommend listening to starship Mario, one of the more diverse songs in terms of instruments used.
