Thank you, Leigh, for making these videos for us. I will be buying an SX900 in the next few weeks. I already have a Genos, but this looks good for taking along on gigs, whereas the Genos, as you observe in this video, just isn't "portable". Thanks again, Leigh. ... Frederick
I have had my SX 900 for some time now and only just got to watch this video. Out of the box ,adjust the bright EQ , you say, well, what a difference ! Wish i found out earlier, now i`m going to have to go through all my favourites again. Thanks
You are so knowledgeable on the inner workings of this keyboard. By this I mean going into the multiple menus of the instrument and knowing what they do. I grew up playing the old analog organs. Since organs are a thing of the past here in the USA, I have to play keyboards now. I have the SX900 and even with my lack of knowledge on the electronic capabiities of this instrument, this thing is a dream come true for me. Some of the features are so easy to figure out, such as using the mixer to adjust the volumes of different parts of a style to bring out a particular voice, can literally change the whole effect of that style. Having the Right Hand Voices 1,2, and 3 and being able to change the octave of each voice can create a whole new sound. The one thing I would love to learn how to use is the chord looper. I have watched others try to explain it here on UA-cam, but they explain it on a level way above my ability to understand. If you ever have the time, I would love for you to do a lesson on how to use this feature on a level that someone like me could understand! I love your videos and your honest opinions on the different instruments you feature. Best of all, I love hearing you play! Please continue to post your videos for us all to learn from and enjoy.
Hi. I personally loathe the chord looper. It’s a lazy persons tool and not a very easy one to use in the fly. It’s one part of Genos I wished didn’t exist. Copied from Korg it’s an utterly useless feature. Sorry.
@@LeighWilbraham Thank you for your answer. I didn't see why some people doing reviews on the keyboard would get so excited talking about the chord looper. I have learned so much about keyboards from your videos. I look forward to many more. Thank you again for confirming what I thought about the chord looper!
I just want to thank you for your videos especially The ones teaching to do styles thank you again and please keep teaching about ntr, ntt and rtr I appreciate it…..Saludos😊
I swear - the best and most timely video for me on UA-cam, ever! We bought a Yamaha EZ-220 for my son aged 5 learning keyboard 9 years ago. Have been toying with an upgrade for years. Fast-forward to now, and I have a keyboard that has broken (the As & Eb's stopped sounding a week ago) and a 13-year old who is loving keyboard. My question exactly! SX900 or Genos 1?? I think I'll wait 2 days and see what the announcement does to the Genos 1 market. Thanks for the heads up on the Genos speakers btw!
I bought thiis keyboard a few months back and it sounds amazing, I also bought the subwoofer made for this keyboard ,it really brings out the sound and yes I do take it with me on holiday in my motorhome. Keep up the good work Leigh I always watch your videos
SX900 sounds great even without Subwoofer, it really punched. I'm wondering why do we need to add a subwoofer to SX900 since it already has an excellent built in speaker?
Great analysis Leigh! I own a 12 year old tyros 4 and agree, time to move on. Voice quality likely improved, styles improved, and song-writing also doable. Love your playing style too!
I,m using sx 900.. its very nice user friendly keyboard. I added 10 expansion packs and many audio styles and multipads packages it will sound very good. Best for live performances along with vocal harmony for singing. For styles creating it's very easy methods. I used 510, 620, 550, 630, 2000, 3000, 950, 975, Yamaha all models user friendly Yamaha always the best keyboard
Hi Leigh. I have been in the business 55 years and have bought and used dozens of keyboards. I still have the old Ketron Audya, Pa4x, and other misc arrangers. I am in awe of your musicality, hence I liked and subscribed. I was thinking of the Ketron Event until I caught your video. I prefer the SX900 for gigs for the reasons you laid out. It would have been gear lust I have been guilty of. You saved me a bunch of money, saying nothing of the aggravation and remorse . Thank you for your great, honest videos.
Hello Bernie. If I can save someone from losing thousands on a bad instrument I’m a happy chap. Been there and done that so many times. I’d love the Ketron to be a great instrument but it’s got so so many issues. Certainly not worth the price tag. Thanks for subscribing!!!
Hello again Leigh, With great joy I have watched this video about the SX900. You know that I am a proud owner of an SX900 because of you! Thanks again Leigh. Everything you said about it is so true. The sounds are really superb. I enjoy every single day with this instrument. Would I buy een Genos 1,....? I don't think so. I have the SX900. Wait for the Genos 2,....no I told you already it is out of my league. But maybe one day when I win the lottery I will definitely buy it! Thanks for the tip of the EQ setting to bright,....I already adjusted it. Please keep making these awesome videos Leigh they are well appreciated . Cheers, Glenn.
Hi Leigh, This is very timely for me, so a big thank you. I have had the Korg PA700 and Pa1000 for the past six years. They are very good in many respects but I have found the following: style creation feels very complicated, as you say the midi to style converter is useless, the ergonomics are poor, the menu system and style editing are unfriendly and, very importantly, there is not the wide community support and availability of fresh styles that the Yamaha keyboards have. I've been contemplating switching to the Yamaha SX900 for a while and your video has helped me decide to go ahead.
When you mention the community you are right. Yamaha has cleverly followed the Apple formula. Make it easy to create content and you build support. Yamaha excel because they have a team of people who know the arranger market inside out and have made it easy to create content. Kudos to Yamaha.
Bought a barely used 1yr old one of these last week and am finding my way round it slowly but I have been blown away how good it is. Having said that my last keyboard was a PSR730 which lasted years and was still great and would seriuously come alive especially when connected to a PA system. Cant wait to get the SX900 connected to a PA to see how much better it is, once I get my head round it that is. My only worry would be with the joystick and whether it would get damaged in a keyboard bag.
I had one for a month but it felt cheap and a bit plastic. Bought a Genos at a good price from Thomann Germany and I’m so pleased with it you can feel and hear the difference!
Just found you on You tube. Hoorah! Thank you for your straightforward, no holes-barred reviews. I bought my sx900 a couple years ago. I love it! Being a piano player, and moving to a keyboard with hundreds of styles and voices has been fun, but also daunting. As I watch your videos, I’m impressed with your ability to easily and seamlessly match a tune and play beautifully to just about any style. That for me is a frustration. First because I can’t come up with a song or tune to play with the chosen style, and second, I find myself playing a simple single note melody, which is like a chicken poking at a typewriter with its beak. I haven’t found a source which can pair a melody and an arrangement which is comparable to what you are doing with the styles on the sx900 (like a menu in a restaurant which recommends a wine to pair with an entrée). Do you have any suggestions on this dilemma? Thanks
I've worked my way up thru the PSR S series to the SX900. I was considering a move to the Korg PA5X and have seen that drop to £3299 for a 76 key. But then the G2 started being announced. I have bought into the queue for a G2 but it will depend on price. Having seen the montage increase 25% launch price on launch price to the old series. If they do that to the Geno's it would be horrendous given the original Geno's ranged from £4500 up to £5200 because of supply and demand. Add 25% and you need a second mortgage. Can't wait to see.
Very good video on sx900. I agree 100% . I got mine since it first come out here in Sweden.Love it. I have recently Bought a DGX 670 Piano Have or will You make a film about that thing?
Thanks for the video. However, from your title, I assumed you are doing more of a comparison covering Genos as well, but I did not see that. Perhaps in other videos. I have owned SX900 for a while and have been using it on events and happy with the mobility and size, but I am also considering purchasing a used Genos form a friend who just bought a Genos 2. He doesn't see much difference in the 2 Genos. I am also watching your video on Genos. I think I will like the Genos. The voices sound much nicer and fuller. I hope I won't miss much compared to SX900. I subscribed. Thanks again,
Have had my sx900 for two years and will px it this week for a Genos 1 and upgrade the speakers. I currently play my sx through an AV amp and a single 200w speaker works and sounds great. Looking forward to playing the larger keyboard with all the extra sounds. 😊
@@LeighWilbraham I really enjoy your reviews and commentry! Can you tell me is the leap from the SX900 to a genos 1 really worth the extra $900 to $1500 ? I know the extra few octaves is good to have but are the sounds of a genos really that much better than an SX900 ?
I bought first a 2nd hand sx700 ftir my son (and me). He loves playing! Dad is really proud of him 👍☺️ It’s on my opinion also a great keyboard. Well it has two major disadvantages: lack of internal memory and the internal speakers are not top. Good Active speakers are rather expensive (500 bucks and more for one and I need two of em!). So I took decision to do an upgrade: sx900, tyros 5 xl and genos 1 were the options. The best sound tbh has the Tyros5. The compressor from SX and Genos is a real bass killer. If you want to keep playing either the compressor, I recommend to plug in a Subwoofer. That does for me the trick. At the end I have chosen the genos 1 for a very good price. The main reasons are: More keys, Support in the future, SA2 Voices, Connectivity, active Sound System. And many professionals wants to upgrade from genos 1 to 2. So there are many good 2nd hand genos 1 keyboards in stores. I got mine (1 year old with warranty) for about 2100 bucks
If you are a gigging musician, you will enjoy the size/weight of this keyboard, really easy to moove, and, he have almost the same engine of the Genos 1, of course, that’s will do the job!!
Hi Leigh, it's me, Edson, member of your GenosClub. I loved this video you made. I feel better now that I've bought the SX900 6 months ago! One observation: with the launch of Genos2, Yamaha put available a MIDI TO STYLE App (Software). I tried on my SX900 and the results were not good. Will it be better on the Genos or Genos 2? Best regards!
Hi leigh Your right the sx900 is an amazing keyboard but has a flaw , the keybed by time will rattle especially the black keys so one must be prepared to grease the keys had mine done 3 times in 3 years of ownership . its not hard but annoying to do -however the genos never gave me problems with the keybed and is more solid
Had same issue with keybed, regreased first time under warranty and currently away to dealer to get redone and new felt. That aside I absolutely love it, unbelievably versatile. Had the Tyros 4 SE and Korg PA3x which both felt better to play and the Korg sounds were gorgeous but Yamaha Styles just seem far more playable and flow better with intros, fills etc. Great video again Leigh
I also have the SX900 since its launch. The keyboard is fantastic but this problem with the black keys is horrible for me. Even so, I'm thinking about having a repair done by technical assistance, they can lubricate the keys and improve the problem. It's cheaper than buying another keyboard
Also while recording in wav format the recording sounds very thin, should i change the compression or equaliser or is there any way to improve the quality of the recordings
You talk a lot of sense, Leigh, and your opinions are honest. If something is cr*p, you say so! So much better than listening to sales patter where the salesman sells you what HE wants to sell you rather than what is best for you. If only you reviewed cars and washing machines ! Any plans ? !!!
if you you can get me a Bentley or Ferrari to review, im pretty sure id have no issues… apart from maybe the red paintwork. Thanks for your comment Hywel. If your not honest people will see that you’re lying. Fake news lol
The SX900 is a wonderful keyboard. Ive had a number of different brands over the years but I agree whole heartedly that Yamaha is the most user friendly Ive ever owned and the usability and accompanament is miles ahead of the competition. Still cant wait to see what the Genos 2 brings. Love your channel and its content 🙂
I have YAMAHA SX900 and TECHNICS KN7000. To be honest the SX900 is getting closer in term of sounds, but it's not close yet in term of mixing production right out the box. I really enjoy both in many gigs. For modern sounds, the SX900 will be very usable. The piano sounds is great, better than KN7000. However, for Rock, Folk, Oldies, and many general favorites songs that people always requested will need KN7000 to satisfied their ears. Playing with some real drum and real guitar definitely need KN7000 to cut through the Band to be able to stand out. SX900 could not stand a chance due to thinner sounds and mixing. I could never get rid my KN7000. The SX900 compliment my gigs.
Do you think that kn5000 and PSRsx900 could the be at same level? Unfortunatly my kn has a damage in lcd screen , due to humidity, and i,m looking to change to sx900, ut i don,t WhatsApp to do Witherspoon so mano music madera on technics format...
@royanguren1 *In term of Sounds and technology, KN5000 is below the SX900. I used to own KN5000 before I got my KN7000. KN7000 won hands down. Also, KN5000 doesn't have *SD Card.* Those floppy disk need to replace with USB. It's better get KN7000 if available on sale, or SX900, whichever you prefer. I still have both. The reason I still keep my KN7000 because it's very easy to use, beautiful sounds, SDcard, Strong Sounds. At church with 100 people, KN7000 can handle the crowd easily because the sounds is sharper than SX900 & KN5000.
Thank you for your answer. The problem is that I have that made around 25 new original songs with the KN5000 and recorded in the Techichs format, not in Midi (SMF), and to reproduce all that work I need a KN5000, I don't know if I would be able to get a KN7000(I think very difficult to get one) would reproduce the KN5000 format. By other side, the SX900 Yamaha is not compatible with Technics format unless convert the Technics format in SMF, that is a point that never I was able to get. Yes, really a it was very good brand Technics. Very good speakers. I have the problem on KN5000 of the screen that after a move I stored 2 months on a non well vent warehouse, the screen shows like a shadow produced by humidity, even inside the transport bag., and also the velocity knob "slips" and is a mess change the velocity, other that the difficulty to see the screen by that shadow. I want to make the scores of that songs, I work in Logic Pro, but As I have said have not been able to pass from the KN5000 to my PC via midi cable to Midi format.
@royanguren1 *Very true.* Technics KN5000 is a great keyboard for sure. But the technology is already way behind. To find the SMF converter from KN5000 to KN7000 is not easy. I do have converter from KN2600/2400 to KN7000. But not from KN5000 to KN7000. Also not from KN7000 to SX900 or the other way arround. For that reason, I always bring the two keyboard (KN7000 and SX900) when I gig. OK, here's the catch. *KN7000 have ability to connect the audio directly trough Only USB Cable by using Windows 98 and Win XP.* I am not sure if KN5000 can do that. Since you have Logic Pro X in your Mac, it's nice to started recording your music *from KN5000 directly using audio cable* through your Sound card, while it's still works. Logic and other DAW's are great, but it's not as easily operated with Arranger Keyboard where you can get all the styles, copied and edit them on the spot. Also, Arranger keyboard doesn't need too much plug ins. Right after you record the song, you can just MIX on Logic to make it Pop up and widening the Stereo sounds to get more polish results. I suggest to use stereo audio cable for each L & R (2 ports jack) to get better sound quality compare to only through One headphone Stereo port. KN7000 are still available online, Guitar center, e-Bay, Offer-Up, Craigslist, and etc. I got mine through Craigslist about 8 years ago for $600.
I have used a psr-950s for many years when entertaining for its portability although I like light combined output of a powered small bass woofer to fully colour the sound. 2 main issues you mentioned:- 1). The internal sound is so convenient and good it should be an option in flagship models. It could be easily silenced if required but I find its use as foldback helpful in noisy situations (ever been there?). The flagship models are just too troublesome to take out and the dicky leads to the external speakers and cumbersome bass are certainly not professional quality. Your advice on speakers is important. 2) Carrying sounds from one keyboard to another. Having a small collection of Yamaha keyboards has the advantage of being able to copy/swap sounds, rhythms, registration memories, multi-pads and my own creations amongst them. Consequently my Psr-s950 is a monster far beyond its original status. also 3) Perhaps the most important advantage of Yamaha real time arrangers is its true accompaniment , reading the whole keyboard even when split. I do not believe any other keyboard can do adequately this despite contrary claims. 4) The vocalizer unit is another inclusive, essential ingredient for me. Although I have 3 flagship models that I love to play, the psr-s950 measures up adequately in performance with its own individual attributes. A true workstation in itself. Yes, I do take it with me almost always. I can only suggest the psr-900 would be the same or better. I suggest the flagship models are more suited to home use or where extensive external pa equipment with foldback is required. Great review.
I just ordered mine. I took my Medeli AKX10 and sold it to a local music store (Guitar Center) for half of what I bought it. I took my loses and moving on to something serious. I have a feeling Yamaha will soon release their new PSR-SX series but I’ll stay pretty occupied with this one and keep my blinders on till I’m ready to move up again. Thanks for the videos, you actually motivated me to make the investment. 👍
I enjoyed this video for sure. It is very informative!!! I Have a Yamaha PSR-S975, and I really like it a lot. I saw your Genos 2 demo of that style called Dessert Adventure, and what I was wondering was, can that style and voices be played in a PSR 975, or perhaps the SX-900? Thanks
@@LeighWilbraham thank you for your quick reply sir! The end result I am trying to find is, is there a way to have access to those sounds and styles without having to pay the $5-6k for the Genos 2. Any ideas, or is that a non-starter. Thank you again sir!!! Blessings
@@LeighWilbraham I would love to, but I don’t want to go through the divorce that would follow my butt getting beat down by my wife, LOL!!! I love her, and wouldn’t want to cause her to do that, esp to me☝️😎👍
Yamaha would effectively have to put its montage synth engine into an arranger body. I think the general market of arranger type people are looking for realistic voices which suits AWM2 sample based method, and maybe most em can’t be arsed faffing with FM synthesis or modelling methods as found in their FS1R or VL1 acoustic modelling synth.
I think Yamaha won't do that. Because the PSR is a keyboard that uses voices ready to be used in arrangements. With this you will have few adjustments to the voices so that your song always sounds the same. If you want to arrange arrangements and also explore new tones, you should have two keyboards: an arranger and a synthesizer.
I love my SX 900. My favorite feature is plugging my guitar or fretless bass into the keyboard using the keyboard's effects and speakers... total turnkey system. I am, however, going to trade up to the Genos for one reason, the black keys on my SX 900 are terrible. They rattle from side to side and it's very noisy where I have to play the piano pretty load to get over the rattle. I'm the original owner and the keyboard has never left the house and have had it about 4 years now. I just hope the new Genos has the instrument input feature, that's the gamechanger for me.
I also have the SX900 since its launch. The keyboard is fantastic but this problem with the black keys is horrible for me. Even so, I'm thinking about having a repair done by technical assistance, they can lubricate the keys and improve the problem. It's cheaper than buying another keyboard.
@@DiegoDouradoMe too, some of the blacks keys have very slight loose feel. I only really noticed it after reading some posts in a forum, otherwise I thought it was becasue it was a quieter FSB keyboard.
Hi Leigh, I enjoyed your video, it was very informative. I also like how you don't stand stupid comments. Now down to the real reason I am commenting. I am 70 years old and have been meaning to learn the piano properly for years, ( I love music and instruments). I have been messing about on cheap keyboards, but now I really want to go for it, which keyboard would you recommend for an older beginner around the £2000 mark. I hope you don't find this a rediculous question. Regards. Arthur
Are there any manual controls for sound balancing ? Like balance between accompaniment and upper / lower voices etc or do you have to go through menus and sub menus
I had the SX900 for a couple of years. I had had several mid range Yamaha Keyboards previously. I struggled for two years to find my way round it. Had I simply used the OTS I would have got the best from. I realise now that parting with it was a massive error of judgement, but I hope the pupils at the Rye WurliTzer Academy in East Sussex have benefited from it. I am tempted to purchase its smaller 'brother' the SX700, but will Yamaha be bringing out a new range of SX Keyboards anytime soon? Thank you Leigh for such a splendid video.
@@LeighWilbraham I mean how much difference does the sx900 not having it make compared to the genos. Is it a bit of a gimick you could get along without or is it something you miss everytime you use the sx900 instead of the genos?
@@TheBenevolentPirate I don’t miss it. Aftertouch is perfect for brass and synth but nearly all of the other voices I don’t bother about. Piano and organs. Strings - not used. It’s a nice addition but not essential.
Great review. But I'm in a different quandry......I have not one but two psr 3000's, and its time to upgrade. Obviously Im considering the sx900, but in your opinion would the sx700 be an improvement on the 3000, and how much an improvement? I can't imagine I'd get too much for the 3000s (?), so I have to watch the cost! Thanks again!
Avec ce PsrSx 900,l'on peut faire de la bonne musique et améliorer de façon constructive avec le YEM. Une très bonne continuation musicale et vive la musique 🎹 Theret Jean-Luc.
I love this -where can I get one . I have played concerts and this would be perfect. I live in Conn. 06119. I don’t want pay top price, maybe second hand!!I love listening to you.😊 want it in great condition.
Hi Leigh. About speakers you mention in this video. You recommend the HS series. I have seen som reviews, where they complain about noise from the HS speakers in standby mode, right after you power them up, and even not have had connected any audio connections yet. What can you say about this noise issue ? Is it a issue you have to deal with on some level ? /Rgrds Peter/Denmark.
Have you turned the gain knob down on the rear of the keyboard that is used for the Mic/Guitar input ? I read in the manual that this can cause noise if the input is not being used.
Hi Leigh, this days I went to an music shop to test sx900, but they had only sx600 with cheap organ keybed....how does the FSB from sx900 it feels in comparison with FSX from Genos........ps: I started learning piano on yamaha ydp-v240 with ghs keybed and have somewhere around 3-4 years on it......the organ keybed from sx600, for me was terrible :)....Thank you for the video, it was exactly my point :) , this days I have to decide, sx900 or genos sh
I've used both and the SX600 keybed is much more solid than the SX900. The FSB keybed on some SX900 is much quieter but had some issues and people were returning them under warranty. My SX900 keybed some of the keys have started to feel loose but it's not that bad to say it would not be worth buying one.
I have a Tyros 5. I also play Yamaha Tenor sax and recently purchased a YDS 150. Can I connect the YDS to a Genos to play Genos through midi in or USB and play Genos voices. Cant do this with the Tyros????
Had the SX 900 for a year but sold it. I found it quite unintuitive. Nice sounds and many decent style pattern rhythms but for the price I would have hoped for far more.
Yeah must admit, this keyboard at this price is the best in class and does what it says on the tin. Sounds to me like the issue is with understanding your own requirements and/or lack of skill, rather than a fault of the keyboard. It's about as intuitive as you can get, and like Leigh am really not sure what else you'd want it to do.
How much can you afford ? SX900 sounds incredible but if you want perfection in sounds then a Genos. I see too many videos of Genos Genos2 playing saxophones, sounds great but I think it is a bit of a gimmick. I can tweak my SX900 to sound just as good, but I don't even use saxophones in any of my songs. I'm waiting for Yamaha to release an arranger keyboard with a full multi-track midi sequencer so I don't have to flip between my cubase laptop and the keyboard to arrange and compose songs. I'm really surprised that in the 20 or so years since arranger keyboards became popular that this kind of function does not exist on any keyboard today.
Hello Mr. Liegh if you could help me out and what's the easiest way to program a song is it in style recording or midi multi recording.. I have an sx700..
@@LeighWilbraham Thanks. I currently have a decent midi keyboard with a few also decent vsts but I was looking for something that you can just open and play, maybe do some improvisation etc. For me it seems the more complicated the setup the less you play in the end..
I have heard reports of problems with the keybed with the SX900. Inititially it is good, but mechanical noises develop over time. Have you heard of this issue?
It depends I think on your playing technique I’ve seen players literally thump keys when playing and some have a light touch. This will ultimately cause issues.
I've had the SX900 since launch. It turns out that if you're playing with headphones or high volume, you won't even notice the noises from the keys. But if it is at a low volume, it may be a bit annoying for the most demanding. This problem did not occur in the previous series, the S975.@@LeighWilbraham
Yes, it was an issue with some keyboards, the keybed requires re-greasing as some keyboards were manufactured with too little grease on the keys. My SX900 has started to get this problem on some of the keys. It's not as bad as some people in the forums claimed.
Leigh, what do you think of the Genos_Tyros 5 76 keys Workstation -I know you know a lot about these keyboards , I need to find something that I will enjoy playing, I saw this on my phone from Brazil, yes or no? Thank You so very much , you play well, you know what is good, I need to get something that I can afford.
@@LeighWilbraham I noticed that and thank you., is it a ok place to get a keyboard from Brazil, looks like the speakers are separate,I just don’t know if I should trust getting a complete package. I’m talking about the keyboard, speakers, Manuel and what all else comes , maybe nothing more. Genos_Turos 5.)
You prefer “Bright” on the Equalizer setting. Yours shows two Bright settings. “BRIGHT” and “Bright”. I’m assuming the all Cap’s version is something you modified. Just an observation. Wondering what the difference is?
genos 1 and genos 2 don't exist. Genos does though, and so does Genos2. Small details, but people seem to get them wrong... As for whether it's worth upgrading, that depends purely on your own circumstances. Is Genos2 objectively better? Yes. Is it better in ways that matter to you? Are those upgrades worth the extra outlay? Only you can decide.
KORG PA1000 IS THE MARKET COMPETITION OF SX900 AND ITS NOT BAD KEYBOARD 🤔 ABOUT COMPETITION I WISH FOR BIG ROLAND COME BACK ON THE ARRANGERS MARKET 😮💨 - LOVE YOUR REVIEWS 😍
HI -I have a chance to get a PSR-E473 because I can’t afford the price but I feel I am more more interested in the PSR SX900 which I LOve so very much and but really can’t afford but could get it through Brazil much cheaper but can’t afford it., what shall I do….My heart aches for it…I don’t know where it is in Brazil-for 600 and free shipping.
Thanks all for your comments. I ended up going with the PA5X 88 key version. I just wish Yamaha had made the Genos 2 with an 88 weighted key version. That would have been perfection!
If they made the Geno's with the same speakers as this one the Genos would be a better keyboard because the speakers the Geno's has is like theatre speakers like you watching a movie for a keyboard it's not digital or Stero speakers like this keyboard
Each unto their own, but the MS01 speakers and sub combo are FAR superior to the built-in speakers in the SX900. You also have better control over the sub and bass volume so they don't need be thumping...although to be fair, a lot of the styles, especially EDM-based ones, absolutely benefit from a bit more bass. Genos is a performance keyboard, not something that is designed to fit into a mix and needs to sound neutral.
The Genos does not have speakers because it is intended for a studio and hooking into a mixer. The "theatre" speakers are designed for entertainment or gig's but you can use whatever speakers that you prefer with it.
Also while recording in wav format the recording sounds very thin, should i change the compression or equaliser or is there any way to improve the quality of the recordings
Thank you, Leigh, for making these videos for us. I will be buying an SX900 in the next few weeks.
I already have a Genos, but this looks good for taking along on gigs, whereas the Genos, as you observe in this video, just isn't "portable".
Thanks again, Leigh.

I have had my SX 900 for some time now and only just got to watch this video. Out of the box ,adjust the bright EQ , you say, well, what a difference !
Wish i found out earlier, now i`m going to have to go through all my favourites again. Thanks
I decided to buy the SX900. Great Video ! It's been a long time since I've laughed as heartily as I did in your video. Super Job ! :)
Great comments from an experienced player ! ! ! Just starting to play. PSR SX-900 will be my choice. Thank you ! ! !
Coord Looper tidak efektif, hanya penggalan lagu😂

Both are great instruments but Genos if you can afford it which price is twice than PSR SX ,
I bought thiis keyboard a few months back and it sounds amazing, I also bought the subwoofer made for this keyboard ,it really brings out the sound and yes I do take it with me on holiday in my motorhome. Keep up the good work Leigh I always watch your videos
Thank you.
What sub would you recommend 😊
SX900 sounds great even without Subwoofer, it really punched.
I'm wondering why do we need to add a subwoofer to SX900 since it already has an excellent built in speaker?
Great analysis Leigh! I own a 12 year old tyros 4 and agree, time to move on. Voice quality likely improved, styles improved,
and song-writing also doable.
Would you recommend this for music producers
@NoMercyRecords1 I was always recommended yamaha keyboard only bacouse it's user-friendly
Where did you get the audio style?
We can create
well i feel dumb been playing sx900 4 years never knew about legacy voices lol so cool thank you for this new sub now
Cheers,
Glenn.
I hate the joystick. It doesn’t offer the same control as wheels.
I had one for a month but it felt cheap and a bit plastic. Bought a Genos at a good price from Thomann Germany and I’m so pleased with it you can feel and hear the difference!
Genos is a fabulous product.
Fantastic explanation, as always Leigh. The SX900 is a fantastic instrument, at a very affordable price. Keep up the great work! ;)
Thanks Damian. Good to hear from you.
I’m in Australia. Brand new cost me $3000.00 AU
@@michaelsmith697same price in Canada aswell $3000 plus 13% Tax☹️
Thanks
I agree .. i ve got hs8 and subwoof hs series speakers and they sound great
I've worked my way up thru the PSR S series to the SX900.
Two things i love on this keyboard. Video out and supports external USB Storage with 16GB/32GB and 64GB.
Thanks again,
Great player. Subscribed. Hope your review on genos2 thanks
Have had my sx900 for two years and will px it this week for a Genos 1 and upgrade the speakers. I currently play my sx through an AV amp and a single 200w speaker works and sounds great. Looking forward to playing the larger keyboard with all the extra sounds. 😊
You’re going to love genos 1
If you are a gigging musician, you will enjoy the size/weight of this keyboard, really easy to moove, and, he have almost the same engine of the Genos 1, of course, that’s will do the job!!
in second hand in France he is around 1300€ .
Just bought a sx900 today and it is a step change to my s950 but surprising that some piano sounds are exactly the same and very similar to the G2.
How about the Genos1-Did you not have one on here ,could you show it again? Very interested
Thanks for another informative video. I have the psrsx900 and thought about trading for a genos. Think its worth it
Absolutely - it’s the perfect upgrade for minimal cost.
I love this video
*KN7000 have ability to connect the audio directly trough Only USB Cable by using Windows 98 and Win XP.*
I am not sure if KN5000 can do that.
Do you play around with compression settings also when turning to bright
I have used a psr-950s for many years when entertaining for its portability although I like light combined output of a powered small bass woofer to fully colour the sound. 2 main issues you mentioned:-
Consequently my Psr-s950 is a monster far beyond its original status.
also
3) Perhaps the most important advantage of Yamaha real time arrangers is its true accompaniment , reading the whole keyboard even when split.
They are not going to release anything similar for at least 1 year. Maybe in 2025-26.
Great video Leigh! Do you think 76 keys is extremely important for gigs or is 61 just fine? Thank you!
For the price, there is nothing like it!!
Thanks
No as it needs the new voices
@@LeighWilbraham thank you for your quick reply sir! The end result I am trying to find is, is there a way to have access to those sounds and styles without having to pay the $5-6k for the Genos 2. Any ideas, or is that a non-starter. Thank you again sir!!! Blessings

Nice!
Regards. Arthur
You can’t go wrong with a SX900 or second hand Genos. There is nothing better! You’ll love both.
Are there any manual controls for sound balancing ? Like balance between accompaniment and upper / lower voices etc or do you have to go through menus and sub menus
Even on the PSR-SX600, it is just one button and you can edit the balance using the screen and the associated soft key buttons.
Thanks Brian.
The new SX line should be due 2025.
Even the Yamaha Midi to Style converter is crappy? Is that what you said?
What's the "after touch" like on the genos keyboard? On paper that seems like one of the bigger distinguishing features between the two.
You don’t know it doesn’t have aftertouch?
You’d be better with a second hand genos.
Avec ce PsrSx 900,l'on peut faire de la bonne musique et améliorer de façon constructive avec le YEM. Une très bonne continuation musicale et vive la musique 🎹 Theret Jean-Luc.
The sounds that we are hearing, are they coming out from the sx 900 speakers, or were you hooked up to different speakers?😊
The sound is fed directly from the keyboard to your speakers.
Hello Leigh, could you please mention the Yamaha speakers that you recommend?
He clearly states it in the video, and it doesn't take much searching online to find the speakers/monitors that Yamaha make.
I have SX700 and looking to upgrade. Any thoughts as to which keyboard to upgrade to. Is Sx900 a big enough jump or go straight to Genos?
I’d say genos. You’ll find the 900 too similar to your 700
I love this -where can I get one .
Hello Peter - No noise whatsoever from mine - they are silent. Im finding that peoples opinions arent always honest and targeted for other reasons.
Go for genos if you can afford to.
I've used both and the SX600 keybed is much more solid than the SX900. The FSB keybed on some SX900 is much quieter but had some issues and people were returning them under warranty. My SX900 keybed some of the keys have started to feel loose but it's not that bad to say it would not be worth buying one.
At the moment, in my country a new SX900, a used Genos1 and a used Tyros5 have the same asking price...
I have a Tyros 5. I also play Yamaha Tenor sax and recently purchased a YDS 150. Can I connect the YDS to a Genos to play Genos through midi in or USB and play Genos voices.
Cant do this with the Tyros????
Yes you can.
Had the SX 900 for a year but sold it. I found it quite unintuitive. Nice sounds and many decent style pattern rhythms but for the price I would have hoped for far more.
What more did you hope for??
Yeah must admit, this keyboard at this price is the best in class and does what it says on the tin. Sounds to me like the issue is with understanding your own requirements and/or lack of skill, rather than a fault of the keyboard. It's about as intuitive as you can get, and like Leigh am really not sure what else you'd want it to do.
what would you mean TODAY ? sx900 or Genos2 or waiting of sx1000. release maybe this year
How much can you afford ?
Quick midi record is the easiest

I am currently using PSR S970. Do you think upgrading to SX900 is worth it ?
No. I’d hang on and get a second hand Genos 1
Does genos2 have all the styles of genos1 and more
Yes
Leigh, what do you think of the Genos_Tyros 5 76 keys Workstation -I know you know a lot about these keyboards , I need to find something that I will enjoy playing, I saw this on my phone from Brazil, yes or no? Thank You so very much , you play well, you know what is good, I need to get something that I can afford.
A second hand Tyros 5 has a lot more going for it than the SX
@@LeighWilbraham I noticed that and thank you., is it a ok place to get a keyboard from Brazil, looks like the speakers are separate,I just don’t know if I should trust getting a complete package. I’m talking about the keyboard, speakers, Manuel and what all else comes , maybe nothing more. Genos_Turos 5.)
@@jeanmccullough1064 Brazil??
So is it worth the extra £1200 going from a SX900 to a 2nd user GENOS ?
Absolutely!!
You prefer “Bright” on the Equalizer setting. Yours shows two Bright settings. “BRIGHT” and “Bright”. I’m assuming the all Cap’s version is something you modified. Just an observation. Wondering what the difference is?
@@michaeljorcutt3142 the caps version is my own or he is factory option.
@@LeighWilbraham Ok. Thanks for the quick reply. Liked and Subscribed
What piece of music is this 10:26?
Just me making something useful.
It’s a great time to buy a genos used.
How to adjust style
Videos showing how to are all available at www.patreon.com/genosclub
6:50 According to the user manual, there is no 'video output' on the back of this keyboard.
Video is output over USB.
@@LeighWilbrahamInteresting. Will investigate further.
@@carlwaring you need a usb to hdmi adapter
@@LeighWilbraham So I have discovered.
Is it worth upgrading from genos 1 to genos 2
genos 1 and genos 2 don't exist.
Korg is in no way serious competition to this arranger - it is in a different league completely.
@@LeighWilbrahamI agree with that, PA1000 is a little bit old to compete the SX900, I have never found a PA1000 performance video that amazed me.
Maybe you have a different ebay than me. There are about 6 genoss on ebay and they are all over 4000 usd
Maybe UK prices are cheaper.
All that and no real conclusion. Which to buy?
I love the sxGeenos1, why does the price being so high -it’s second hand even though it’s brand new.
I am in the market for an arranger keyboard, but would really like a fully weighted 88 key model. What do you recommend?
So you’re looking for a piano with an arranger. Currently the only one is the PA5x - worth a look
@@LeighWilbraham , you were so negative about the Korg, I am hesitant. Is it really that bad?
@@user-yb7oj4nu7j I think you have to try it yourself. There are bugs in that because it was rushed out like so many keyboards.
Do you need it portable? If not, a Clavinova CVP series sounds like it.
Thanks all for your comments. I ended up going with the PA5X 88 key version. I just wish Yamaha had made the Genos 2 with an 88 weighted key version. That would have been perfection!
38:00 yamaha has released a free app for it…
Does this have transpose?
Yes it does
Great! WHat would the difference between the Genos 1 and the PSR SX900 and prices., thank you Leigh I love your playing😅
doesn't have after touch ??
That’s why n Genos
Leigh, why is the SX900 put up in price t🤯😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Far as I’m aware Yamaha has had a price increase on all products.
C'est bien mais les accords de guitare ne sont pas reproduits par le guitariste de la façon dont vous les jouer.
Can you tell me how they should be played then?
Nice English Lession
Bla...Bla...B la.......boring...too much talk

Run it through an analog mixer
