In case anyone is a fan of wrestling commentary such as The Mark Remark, this game is where LittleKuriboh gets his Gatekeeper references about banishing wrestlers to the Black Hole. The More You Know.
Was having a bad brain night and I thought to myself: what I need to feel better is to go back in time and watch some funny boys scream YES MY GATEKEEPER a bunch.
I'm surprised that everyone didn't write "flaming clown spiders" but I agree with Cam's fear, that would be scary. All in all, considering the 90's production quality etc. it was surprisingly well thought out with very few actual "just screw you" moments. I don't think this has that much replay value but as a stream game it was pretty good.
Additionally, as a fan of this game from my childhood, I can tell you that they made the game a lot harder for themselves... the rules are confusing and complicated for such a simple game concept. E.g. landing on your own gravestone, you get to roll your own number to win a key. Landing on someone else's gravestone they get to roll you for a key. That kind of thing which really speeds up the game and makes it more exciting with constant battling for keys.
What made this game really creepy wasn't the host or the jump-scares during it but the true stories behind the playable characters. The werewolf for example was inspired by the Beast of Gevaudan in France between 1764 and 1767 or the Witch character Anne de Chantraine was a real life girl from France who was accused and executed for withcraft.
I love how the LRR Wiki was updated with the parameters of Cam's age. Now, shouldn't Alex's page be updated to no longer say he's the oldest member of the crew?
I kinda wanna make/see an animated version of this concept Like have the host just be as cartoonish over the top, have the timer pause when the host in on screen, trolling the players
THAT WAS BLOODY AWESOME! Omg please if you get a chance to get the other games, please please please play the rest in the series, pretty please! Thank you so much for playing this, best stream everyone can go home
I love how the beardy one gets legitimately pissed off around 1:04:00 when he loses the two keys. You can you see him frantically trying to both cover up his annoyance, and desperately find a reason why he doesn't have to. It's absolutely glorious
If you want LRR to wear more expensive cloathing, all you need to do is donate to patreon.com/loadingreadyrun, mark your donation with "dress the wee Alex"
ive played the first three. It was entertaining to watch you play. I found a copy of this today and collectors con and we lost as well, but there was two of us and we were stuck in black holes
I think this is going to be just as funny every time I watch it. The players plat a big role in it, but the pacing of the whole hour is just wonderful. Even on my third watch the last 10 minutes had me in conniptions.
Wow, the middle name thing was really designed to eff Cameron over, THREE numbers that would cause him to miss turns. I'd only have a 1 in 6 chance of missing a single turn.
The one with the roll dice and I believe his name is-Andrew-rolled a four which is the forth letter of the alphabet “D” which caused him to miss a Four turns from the GATEEE-KEEPERRRR,that’s Messed Up 😆 🤣
Its one of those things, where if you compare this to the later games, it is neat to see the progression But dear god, so many just... shitty, choices made for the 1st game Gatekeepers staring contest, while the time is STILL TICKING DOWN, for example
The best setup of this game involves every player writing "not having a unique perspective" as their greatest fear. Then as the game is played, they each get a sneaking suspicion that their greatest fear is coming true right in front of them
The game is Australian and it had dance parties and haunted theme park parties for it. It was HUUUGE. If your family didn’t have a ouija board, they had this. Btw Gevaudahns name is pronounced Guh-vaw-den
Thought y'all were just gonna screw around but, ya stayed with it and played along. Seems like a cool game actually. Heard of it before but saw it on Cinemassacres BOARD JAMES, now I got to see it played. Nobody ever wanted to play the game with me so, this was cool to see it. And Village Road Shows came from it. The Batman came from VRS. Good video. I don't LIKE videos much but, ya earned it
I have soOoOoOoOoOo many memories watching my older brothers play this game while it scared the shit out of me as a much younger sibling, thank you for reinvigorating my love In a childhood favorite my dudes❤️ keep being awesome \[+]/
I'm amazed that they managed to make something that should have been awful so intense. IIRC at some point they mentioned it's a good thing they're adults who can play fast and I think that's what made it enjoyable: there was tension throughout the game as they struggled to play quickly only for the interruptions to come faster and faster at the end. It's probably cheap game design, but it made for an enjoyable video.
12:30 I always wondered how the scenario within the game’s universe worked I think on Wikipedia it says in universe you’re character is a human trying to get possessed by one of these entities (I think)
My cousin gave me one of them because he found it in his garage like 5 years ago and it is so dumb and great it was one of the newer version (and the rules make a lot more sense)
Wow. Call and response, arbitrary rewards and punishment, encouraging the group to deride one of their own for something they have no control over ("the others think your middle name is stupid too")...This is classical brainwashing techniques being used to add suspense to a game for children... 0.o
It works a lot better in the sequel (Atmosfear) because the gatekeeper offers choices then, so what the players feel like doing throws some more surprise into it.
when the chosen one had to go up to the screen there is a time card in the stack that says go behind the chosen one and scream and if you scare the chosen one you get a key
Wow. This game is just... the purest kind of evil. A lot of fun to watch, but I'd hate to play it myself. Unrelated, I'm utterly certain that the Star Trek game doesn't have Harry Mudd in place of The Gatekeeper, but I still have this mental image of players having to stop and say "Yes, my Lord Mudd".
I love that pose Alex makes when The Gatekeeper appears. Other than that, I bet the actor was having a lot of fun playing this character.
"I want to play with a young one now."
This game just took a very disturbing turn.
In case anyone is a fan of wrestling commentary such as The Mark Remark, this game is where LittleKuriboh gets his Gatekeeper references about banishing wrestlers to the Black Hole. The More You Know.
The guy playing The Gatekeeper goes at it hard. I love it.
His name is Wenanty Nosul and he also played the gatekeeper in the game nightmare:the harbingers
@@thegatekeeper1374 he's also the baron. and yes, he can indeed dig it.
@@SentryDoesRetro”thrrrill mayyyy”
When the gatekeeper told cameron his name was stupid I lost it
Was having a bad brain night and I thought to myself: what I need to feel better is to go back in time and watch some funny boys scream YES MY GATEKEEPER a bunch.
I always enjoy coming back to this on the occasion whenever I'm in a LRR mood, even Atmosfear for that matter.
20:38 I used to play this with my friend who was mixed race and that line would crack us up every time.
Thank you, Paul. Your reference to my favorite LRR sketch ever made my night.
Additionally, as a fan of this game from my childhood, I can tell you that they made the game a lot harder for themselves... the rules are confusing and complicated for such a simple game concept.

The gate keeper should have said at one point. 'Those who made wise cracks' miss a turn.
Gramh's stare game is God teir.

Given that the die landed on [REDACTED], I'm pretty sure Ian and Beej are older.
Alex: can I have a hat? *is already wearing a hat*
We played it last week with four people. Missed a few rules, but it was frantic and fun.. We didn't win either. Neat to see it being played. Thanks.
I kinda wanna make/see an animated version of this concept
Like have the host just be as cartoonish over the top, have the timer pause when the host in on screen, trolling the players
this was a blast to watch, cant wait for more AFK content in the future
THAT WAS BLOODY AWESOME! Omg please if you get a chance to get the other games, please please please play the rest in the series, pretty please! Thank you so much for playing this, best stream everyone can go home
I bloody LOVE how they make fun of the Gatekeeper XD And how every time the Gatekeeper pops up, the guy in the hat makes a karate move ahaha
You know, in the actual Vodoun religion, Samedi actually seems like a pretty decent bloke.
willofbob yeah he’s a very dapper looking guy
I love how the beardy one gets legitimately pissed off around 1:04:00 when he loses the two keys. You can you see him frantically trying to both cover up his annoyance, and desperately find a reason why he doesn't have to. It's absolutely glorious
Just watched the latest Nightmare stream and decided to start again for that first time experience.
BLAGOLE!
killerkonnat ZE BLAGOLE!
I laughed so hard during that staring contest and I'd overate today. It hurt but I couldn't stop laughing.
I'm really digging Alex's Torn Shirt Armpit look...

When watching I really want to be able to just run in with a needle and thread and mend that.
25:00 Alex's boots and cats beatbox
.....now stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
ive played the first three. It was entertaining to watch you play. I found a copy of this today and collectors con and we lost as well, but there was two of us and we were stuck in black holes
Who knew that a $6 game found in Value Village would launch the epic story of 'LRR Plays Interactive Board Games'.
I think this is going to be just as funny every time I watch it. The players plat a big role in it, but the pacing of the whole hour is just wonderful. Even on my third watch the last 10 minutes had me in conniptions.
Over FIVE YEARS LATER, Graham got to stare again... Why only him?
Wow, the middle name thing was really designed to eff Cameron over, THREE numbers that would cause him to miss turns. I'd only have a 1 in 6 chance of missing a single turn.
The one with the roll dice and I believe his name is-Andrew-rolled a four which is the forth letter of the alphabet “D” which caused him to miss a Four turns from the GATEEE-KEEPERRRR,that’s Messed Up 😆 🤣
Watching this video on 1.25 speed, and Alex's knee jiggling in the beginning looks like his arm is having a localized seizure.
How was graham physically capable of doing that!?!!
Everybody kept making Spoony references in the chat. Including me.
Because of course, they did. He's one of the main reasons anybody remembers this game.
1:10:59 I love Alex and Graham going Eminiem here. :-D
57:11 HAHAHA I'M DYING AT ALEX'S REACTION
wueugh
1:16:20 EPIC staring contest!
2 mins and 45 seconds THAT intensely? Gram is a God.
The Gatekeeper says The Game more than Triple H
that staring contest, laugh so hard
I have never broken down into laughter like I did with that, my god.
Alex while being the only one wearing a hat: "can I have a hat" XD
Skip to 18:48.
that rabbit thing in the aviator goggles, i want it
This was so great! Looking forward to more.
Second, and also I have adopted Le Mau into my daily vocab mostly when good things happens, thanks Alex
Staring at Graham while he stares at the Gatekeeper... Stare-ception!!
I had this when I was a kid and loved it...It was called Atmosphere here in the UK...So funny to watch now...
And now, like so many other nightmares it’s back… via Kickstarter.
The most amazing board game ever made
"Write your greatest fear."
*overly enunciated* "Commitment."
The Gatekeeper: "THE GATEKEEPER!!!"
Party: *laughs*
me, an intellectual: *tries not to spew water over my device*
Cameron's face when the Gatekeeper is doing the stupid thing XDDDD
*wears two baseball caps*
I'm the chosen one!
Oh my goodness there's another one.
*bookmarks for tomorrow*
I love how they’re constantly way ahead of the gatekeeper.
Its one of those things, where if you compare this to the later games, it is neat to see the progression
But dear god, so many just... shitty, choices made for the 1st game

I need a little streamable for 37:00 and my life will be complete
oh that brings back memories. We played it once and never played it again
When you do the Star Trek game, I really hope Beej is part of the stream.
You haven't truly lived until you've endured Experience Beej,
I came here hoping this comment existed.
It had to be said.
The game is Australian and it had dance parties and haunted theme park parties for it. It was HUUUGE. If your family didn’t have a ouija board, they had this. Btw Gevaudahns name is pronounced Guh-vaw-den
15:44 Zapsworth gets possessed.
Is it strange to say I would love to see a modern version of this game?
Technically, there is one.
They did a 30th anniversary Kickstarter in 2021.
Thought y'all were just gonna screw around but, ya stayed with it and played along. Seems like a cool game actually. This was good. Loved this game as a kid.
I have the 2009 version and it has a DVD!
We true Nightmare/Atmosfear fans don't like to mention those games...
@@showstealer1829 I'm a true fan and I do mention them :D
So do I even have the kufu one too
My childhood 😭
I feel like this game wouldn't be that much fun, but this crew is making it fun to watch.
This is a miasma of horrible game design and hokey video production -- and I'm literally crying with laughter. You folks are great.
I'm amazed that they managed to make something that should have been awful so intense. so fun to watch! i had this game as a kid but no one to play with.
This was so much fun to watch! Maybe you'd consider playing this with another crew (Ian, Beej, Kathleen, Cori perhaps)?
The Gatekeeper looks like he was a reject from “Quest of the Delta Knights”!
12:30
I always wondered how the scenario within the game’s universe worked
I think on Wikipedia it says in universe you’re character is a human trying to get possessed by one of these entities (I think)
I think that the escape from the black hole things can only be used once. Not infinitely.
Jacob Smith and that, is the true ArmosFear (tm)
I kinda feel that you can play this game only once, since the Getekeepe will say the same stuff every time.
But the number.color combos would be completely different. It not perfect system but it works alright.
It works a lot better in the sequel (Atmosfear) because the gatekeeper offers choices then, so what the players feel like doing throws some more surprise into it.
I played this with my family when I was younger where can I find the original one that says nightmare
I like this group set up the best
when the chosen one had to go up to the screen there is a time card in the stack that says go behind the
chosen one and scream and if you scare the chosen one you get a key
Loved this game as a kid!
someone played it once, and never wanted to play it again.
The second hand embarrassment is amazing xD
God this was a bad thing to watch with a fever at 3 am.... It was so good though
I've played all nightmare/Atmosfear I found the gatekeeper one creepy as anything but I loved nightmare/Atmosfear Elizabeth bathory
I owned this game and my family rarely lost, actually.
I think the German version of the Gatekeeper is the crassest, he looks so scary at the end.
so this is the official LRRCanon sequel to The Gatekeeper now, right?
justanotherpoethero No you cannot make clever LRR jokes in my comments sectionIAMTHEGATEKEEPER
This was amazing the frantic rolling made a great show
Atmosfear/Nightmare Legacy runthru when? :v
There's no way you're not supposed to cash in that Black Hole key instead of just never getting holed forever.
I wanna play this with my family but I don't know where to look for a complete game
1:14:19 that man is lucky AF. there is only 1 front end to that key in the entire chance deck.
I need Nightmare2!!
This is the funniest livestream I’ve ever seen
Wait, who was troubleshooting and figured out the pause/overhead issue?
I used to own this game when I was a kid you maggots.
This was awesome to watch.
