I think I dig the packaging. Without a doubt an improvement over the last design. I suppose the only concern would be the exposed part of the car getting chipped up from falling off the pegs..etc…
@@abbiravindhran8424 , has nothing to do w theft if it's gonna get ripped off it's gonna get ripped off. I've bought several old 20-40 year old cars that were stored maybe in some humidity and the card and blister was destroyed but at least car was protected. I just think a small square plastic window should be covering the exposed portion and it would still cut down on at least 80% of the plastic but what do I know ha
I work at Dollar Tree, and while we only ever get the $1 models, I have to say that John is right, the blister is not a deterrent - I will find at least one card and blister, separated, with the car MIA, per case that gets stocked onto the pegs; and we've got the lowest rate of shrink in our district, too 🙄
I agree, if someone's gonna steal it someone's gonna steal it. In my Area every hotwheels section has empty blisters or mainline and premium on the shelves
A thing Ive seen is people buying m2 or auto world or similar, and putting a basic hot wheels in the packaging, and returning it. And usually, Walmart will put clearance stickers on them. I've seen a lot of empty blister packs, across all brands, even adventure force (Walmarts bargain brand, is basically maisto in different packaging) which im sure is just kids who dont know better, but in the back of my mind i know its some grown man probably.
I think I speak for most, if not, every collector out there, when I say, "I don't mind paying a bit extra for better packaging that protects the die-cast, as well as makes it easy to stack, store and even display."
I don't get with that exposed area!?! Why they did that?? It can get damaged while shelling in the stores, rough handling and dust. You shouldn’t keep any part of your product exposed in your package...it’s as simple as that.
I like it. I can open it with no damage, display my model and store the packaging and when I'm dead in 20 years my kids can package it all back up again seal it up with some glue and sell them (hopefully at a big profit) at the markets/swap meet/garage sale. Everyone is happy
Amazing showcase for #MatchboxMonday! Can't wait for the new mix of Moving Parts to arrive next year! Hope you do an unboxing of the new Matchbox five packs.
I don't like the die-cast or at least half of it, being exposed to the open air. The great thing about the plastic blister is that not only does it protect the die-cast, but it stops dust and more from getting into the die-cast, itself. But, when you have half of the die-cast exposed to open air, it's undoubtedly going to lead to dust, scratches, smudges and disgusting fingerprints. Then, guess what happens when dust accumulates? It becomes small, tiny particles of dirt, that hardens. So, now you have dust/dirt particles in between the part of the die-cast exposed to the open air and the molding, doing what? Scratching the die-cast, that won't be apparent until after you or I opens it.
The side mirrors on the A-pillar on that Bronco bothered me at first because I thought Matchbox had gone the way of Majorette but then I realized they’re like that on the real car, owing to the detachable doors! Should have known Matchbox wouldn’t miss a trick like that. So many winners in this batch, but it’s the Porsche and the Lancer that really sing to me! Sure hope I can find them!
Based on seeing lot of blister based castings they are stolen anyways so regardless of what packing is done thief will always happen. I always remove my packaging anyways but this packaging looks good
@64wheels (another creator who does hot wheels stuff) had issues with the foam taking small bits of paint from the car, the foam would stick to small, wet areas of paint and it would dry, the car gets opened, the paint gets chipped from the small chunks. I feel like a paper lining to wrap the car would do good.
Just saw the video of Jason (The Mustang Hunter) opening one of these new Moving Parts cars Not only is there a issue of the open part of the package exposed to light (possibly causing oxidation of the paint) and dust ,but the inner orange (?) material that holds the car is in direct contact with the roof and hood He noticed that there was some paint transfer from the car to that holding material I seems to me that this package issue is going from bad to worse (at least the original blister version didn't damage the car)
Here in Chile they haven't arrived since 2019 but if they did arrive they would be stolen and the dust would affect them. I live in a dusty city called Copiapó and the best ones are always stolen.
Concerning the stealing of die-casts, I don't think this packaging will decrease, nor increase the rate at which people are stealing die-casts. Primarily because if people want to steal a die-cast, they will find a way to do so, nothing is going to stop them, regardless of the packaging. With that said, I personally HAVE seen an uptick of "empty" Hot Wheels and Matchbox packaging lying in the back of shelves or far back on the pegs over the last month or so. I don't know what's up with that.
In my recent findings with these after purchase is that the inserts are physically damaging the paint on some vehicles, along with also removing paint from them in some spots. I also saw a lancer on the pegs that had front fender damage from being exposed. Definitely not a fan of the packaging especially being that I got damaged vehicles.
I agree with the damage concern. Don't care about thieves because they gonna do what they gonna do. But I would prefer if the entire car is just sealed in the box and call it a day. I love the boxed main lines because of the nostalgia in their moniker. So yes, please just do away with the compost, which it's manufactur probably does harm the environment so what's the point. Go head and cover that corner that is exposed, and yall probably save money.
Not keen on either packaging plus I worry about the internal bit deteriating while in the box during prolonged storage or display especially if there's any heat and or moisture like in somebody's attic!
If Mattel really interested in reducing plastic, they should reduce the mass production of models they are churning out that are made mostly from plastic. The new packaging is not much better as half the model is exposed & the other half is hidden. I prefer packaging that shows the whole model and is completely sealed.
Hi @LamleyGroup can you please advise Mattel to just adopt a simple cardboard box for packaging for Hotwheels like Matchbox in Europe, and have a QR code that people can scan to see an image of what the model looks like. That would be ideal.
I don't like the exposed window, too tempting for a thief to be able to see and touch the bare car... Their packaging always sucks, the orange is such an eye sore, although that new packaging looks slighty more reddish, but it's still way too bright. Matcbox packaging should either be black, grey, or white
Wow i guess Mattel learned NOTHING from Hasblow with the terrible plastic free packaging. I don't buy moving parts anyway but now im sure even more people wont buy them
It doesn't matter what kind of package it comes in if the stores don't ever get any of the product. I go diecast hunting every morning and haven't seen any matchbox moving parts or mainline stuff in 4 months. I gave up on them.
New packaging is better. People are going to steal no matter what. At the stores around me they all have opened premiums, mainline, 2 packs, 4 packs, 9 packs, it doesn’t matter the ease of getting it open, they the low life thieves will thrash it.
You said that "it's cold out here", John, in your excellent review. My question is, WHY are you doing the reviews outside when you could be doing them in the warmth of your office/studio?
Not good not good all the dirt and dust is gonna get in there. We'll have to spend extra money on our own. Proper packaging to keep it new and valuable. It's only gonna take seconds to rip the front cardboard back and start the drama.
Personally, I enjoy Matchbox Moving Parts, and like most of you, I truly hate the old(current) packaging. As you stated, it is difficult to stack and store and I own at least 50 of them. Plus, the edges are fragile and ding, flairs and/or creases easily.
Yes, I have most of the moving parts for this year sans a couple that I guess aren’t released yet. I keep mine in a large plastic bin that easily holds all of them but they are a little awkward. The upside is they are easy to spot on the pegs because they always seem to have a couple mainlines hanging in front of them.
I am so proud of Mattel for making this move forward .... if only we could stop the insane garbage overpack on everything else coming out of Asia ... I think we should send it all back ☹
At 4:27, when the Mitsubishi Lancer was on the turntable and it got to the left side, the paint quality is Terrible. Not like Matchbox to have bad paint. And the packaging again sucks. Is hot wheels getting the same "Less Plastic " treatment, too ?
I like the packaging less than previous. Buying something new made from recycled metal is not a selling feature for me either. Metal blooming is a problem when Zinc Alloy (ZAMAC) is off. I would think more likely with reclaimed zinc, this can cause car bodies to crumble years after they are purchased, but they are guaranteed for life, keeping in mind that means the life of the company. Does Mattel ask their customers what they want? Seems like they are catering to an audience that is not part of their customer base. Just my opinion, nice mix nonetheless.
I understand the need for lowering the usage of plastic materials for environmental reasons and its good from the standpoint where you will open the packaging and play with the car, but from the standpoint of a collector who wants to keep the car in the original packaging, its not good. The plastic blister works like a "time capsule" and now those collectors will be forced to buy PLASTIC protectors for the cars they want to preserve and maybe pass to their children. Some will say, most of the people will open the package and throw away the packaging, but than I can argue that you don't need so much paper for the card and so much paint and chemicals for the picture of the vehicle on the card. Knowing how some people behave in the stores, lot of the cars will be scratched.
They can get damaged even if they're not stolen, I would prefer seeing an empty package over a extremely damaged car with a mint packaging. I think they just need to add a little blister to that part.
Not a fan of the packaging with the exposed car. I am worried that with folks walking around with drinks in their hand and dirty hands, the exposed part of the car may take a hit.
I think that the people that are concerned about the environment had their way Hot Wheels, Matchbox,Jada, etc diecast cars would be illegal They would say they use too much stuff to make and they would want everyone to forget forget even the concept of collecting diecast anything
These new packages are absolutely horrid. First off, half of the car isn't visible, which makes it impossible to see if the rear half of the car has defects such as missing wheels, bad tampos, etc. The cars don't show the moving feature either. They're worse for the collectors that like keeping their cars packaged or that display them carded. They're subjected to dirt and dust, and they don't fit in a protector. Can also be subjected to scratching or scuffing when stored. All in all a terrible design.
The thing about the packaging is: Blisters on plastic don't really keep it safe, HOWEVER, having the model at your touch, literally half of it widely in the open undoubtedly passes the sensation of "easier to steal", therefore, if someone is dirty enough to do this, they're encouraged to do it more easily when seeing that half of the car is already out in the open. Do you understand what I'm trying to say here? I don't condone this kind of attitude, but sadly that's the reality.
The first packages are ugly. Though it’s not really a problem as it doesn’t really have card arts similar to Hotwheels. The new one looks really great but easy to steal lol.
Literally the stupidest packaging I've seen yet. Outside of the obvious theft considerations, Its going to be "great" when people can touch with their grubby paws and/or cough germs all over the actual product. Not to mention increased chance for physical damage to the diecast during shipping, handling, and storage. Oh, and dust and such getting in there. Additionally the change to damage the car getting it out of the inner packaging. No thanks.
Why do you keep mentioning "chase"? Chase, Treasure Hunt, Super Treasure Hunt, Special Edition, Limited Edition, 1 of 15,000, etc. are just selling gimmicks that Mattel uses to get you to buy their products. Only stupid people run all over town looking for these gimmicks. They never think about how much time, wear on their vehicle, and gas they waste looking for these gimmicks. Mattel Toy Company is laughing at them all the way to the bank. 🙄
dont really care for the new packaging. dust and dirt will get in the box while on display. increased chance of being damaged in store or in shipping. prefer to see the entire car....I know that there will be some where the color on the packaging will be different (slightly) than the actual car and I know that will look wonky. sorry Mattel, as a collector of moving parts, this was not the way to go.
I think I dig the packaging. Without a doubt an improvement over the last design. I suppose the only concern would be the exposed part of the car getting chipped up from falling off the pegs..etc…
There should be at least a clear thin cover in my opinion. Having the car completely exposed is silly
ikr. It is easier to rip cardboard than pry off a glued plastic piece.
@@abbiravindhran8424 , has nothing to do w theft if it's gonna get ripped off it's gonna get ripped off. It's going to suck for collectors and it would also be way easier to shoplift, considering the cars are around 5x more
💯
Why?
"But now I don't have a holder anymore." lol Great video. And yes, a great mix of worldly vehicles, for all sorts of enthusiasts out there.
5:49 There-in lies my main issue with plastic-free packaging. We can't see if the tampos are good or not.

I'd assume the ones doing that are small kids. I figure most other shoplifters would just take the car with the card.
I agree, if someone's gonna steal it someone's gonna steal it. In my Area every hotwheels section has empty blisters or mainline and premium on the shelves
Same lol
Same in some store in my country have empty blisters 😂
People even steal from dioramas and 9 packs, so yeah you’re correct

Full tampos and great wheel choices for all the cars. Very nice mix indeed!
Matchbox always has full tampos

0:50 "terrible to store" is only an issue for folks afraid to open them 😁
Card opener here (unless it's an error, treasure hunt, rlc, etc)
Can’t wait for these to hit the shelves
I LOVE the new packaging!

You shouldn’t keep any part of your product exposed in your package...it’s as simple as that.
So ilogical
I was worth watching all the way. Yes, that's clever. I'd still be concerned about damage from glancing blows, scratches, and kids sticky fingers!
The Bollinger 😳👀❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
dust will be a problem too
I like it. I can open it with no damage, display my model and store the packaging and when I'm dead in 20 years my kids can package it all back up again seal it up with some glue and sell them (hopefully at a big profit) at the markets/swap meet/garage sale. Everyone is happy

Looks like the packaging for the MBX Collectors Tesla was the test run for this.

Yeah, anything is better than the previous packaging.
Some people, will steal no matter what....
Why would they put 2 hummers in the case gonna be the one that sits on the pegs
Hasbro has been doing this carbon neutral packaging for a while too with their transformers
that 911 is fire!
Love the new package. Less plastic is great
Thank god they got rid of the hour glass packaging
my biggest worry is that kids will touch the cars and dont buy them and just leave their little fingerprints on the cars
I hope I can find this models in Egypt 🇪🇬
Matchbox please get rid off this new blisters packaging. It damages the paint. IT SUCKS FIX IT 😂❤
I am so proud of Mattel for making this move forward .... if only we could stop the insane garbage overpack on everything else coming out of Asia ... I think we should send it all back ☹
Mattel, we want DIECAST metal, not RECYCLED metal !!!! Also, we do not actually like those "boxes". Part of the vehicle is exposed. 🤔

The mustang is the winner to me but wish it was painted white
I'd prefer a plastic-free casting.
Package does look so much better have to agree with u
They can get damaged even if they're not stolen, I would prefer seeing an empty package over a extremely damaged car with a mint packaging. I think they just need to add a little blister to that part.
Okay, they're just asking for trouble now lol.. People still steal these with all the plastic too
Dont like the car being exposed and half hidden. Wont be buying anymore, unless its a chase, which I've never seen anyway.
Nice

I want the lancer

the old moving parts fit in the older full protectos these wont.

The paint on the Lancer looks awful, poor casting under the paint maybe?
"who cares?"... Well, I care. And i am not the only one, judging by other unboxing and showcase videos i have been watching.
