I use the Hydrow app on WaterRower and stream it to my 65" Apple TV. When I turn off the lights and pretend I'm on some river with the instructor, I can't see the WaterRower stat monitor because it doesn't have a backlight. But I don't really need to see the stats because I just look at the instructors hands and follow along. As long as I'm moving as fast as the instructor, I'm keeping up. I also use my Apple Watch for heartbeat. In any case, the Hydrow App classes are better than the Apple Fitness + rowing classes because of the natural environment and the instructors make you feel like you're part of the ole college rowing team.
I work out in a gym where I could hear someone using a Concept2 tens of feet away . The machine is loud. Imagine using a Concept2 in your bedroom.
Used hydrows are pretty cheap. Eventually you will find someone who just wants to get rid of it, I bought mine for $500 in July of 2022.
Does this hack still apply in 2024? Can we use just the phone and save money by using a different rower?
This was an awesome video. I bought a used Hydrow for 600 bucks and it was almost new but it shuts off after 3 hours if you want to do longer rows… I may sell it and go this way with a concept 2 for my crazy challenge rows of 100-200km
The app isn’t available outside the US and UK so far as I can tell. Certainly not here in Australia 😩

Problem is concept 2 is super loud.
Such nonsense. Seems like you folks just want to find a way to justify spending a ton of extra money. I use my Concept 2 with a pair of small fans blowing on me to keep cool as I work out. Plus I watch movies on a tv, so that long workouts are less tedious. No freaking monthly costs. The fan noise from the rower is only a small factor given my setup. Guess you can hear yourselves huffing and grunting better, but it's costing ya. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
Hydrow is for people who want a high-quality SILENT rower. Concept 2 is for people who want a high-quality rower and don't mind tons of noise, in return for paying less. Not sure how this guy missed the mark so badly.
