I get it, and I used to feel the same way. A magnetic charger is no good for Armageddon...but a magnetic charger is a lot easier for everyday charging, it's waterproof(which is good on a boat) and you're not going to lose the use of your flashlight because a rubber insert came out before you went in the water, and it's not going wear out over time, and it's not going to get bent or break because your charger cord got yanked...AND any kind of charger on a AA light is unusual so I think we're kind of lucky to have any kind of charger at all on this AA light. It's no good for Armageddon when the cord might get lost while you trek across the world to the Promise Land, however, you could probably figure out a way to charge it without the official charger if you had to.
@@Ellifiknow I agree with a lot of things you say. But the one glaring issue is that the magnetic charging cable and system is proprietary. I ended up buying a Skillhunt H150 headlamp since I think there is nothing that competes with them in terms of run time efficiency and modes offered for a single 14500/AA and they can be used as a right angle flashlight or headlamp. The first thing I did was try to charge the headlamp and I realized how bulky that cable is. Now I have to carry one of those cables along with my USB-C cables when bikepacking or camping when space is at a premium. I wish it was all USB-C and standardized but to your point, there is no room for a USB-C port unless they make the flashlight bigger especially with AA. The magnetic cable is larger than the entire flashlight so making it 10mm longer would still be much better with a USB-C port and the size of the typical USB-C cable. If the proprietary cable fails I can at least use another AA so should be good in this case.

I don't have to get up at 6:00 a.m. today or tomorrow or the next day although I bet I will, lots to do I need to figure out if I've maxed out my credit card or what cuz I processed orders for these flashlights but I still have a nephew and a niece that need their orders placed. So to start the day, off on the right foot, I'm thanking you again. That light that incredible light with the colors with the strobe with the SOS that works the one smaller one that works both on rechargeable batteries and double a batteries, I mean wow. That's crazy incredible. And then the big one with the colors and the crazy light output and the user interface wow what a find. Each one of them is getting the small flashlight an extra rechargeable battery and a pretty decent backup of double A batteries, and they're getting a big flashlight I think it's the ec300 if my mind is awake and I'm remembering correctly they're getting that flashlight they're getting a spare battery based on what it says it comes with and they're getting a charger both incredibly reasonably priced I mean less than $20 for an extra battery less than $15 for the charger that looks like it may charge both rechargeable batteries for the big flashlight and maybe even the rechargeable battery for the smaller flashlight. Do you see? Why and how you solve my light issue? The only thing left as far as lights concerned is a headlamp. A good quality crazy bright headlamp. I have one I bought many many years ago, you see I used to do disaster rescue work after well, after disasters. Floods tornadoes hurricanes wildfires you name it unless it was a volcano or gosh did I work everything but a volcano hurricanes wildfires flooding tornadoes oh I haven't finished my first cup of coffee so I'm not awake quite yet yet if you know of a headlamp, I'm going to ask you for another favor, can you point me in the right direction? Something that uses rechargeable batteries it is crazy bright something that fits on your head really well not just wraps around it like a 70s jogging headband, but something that wraps around your head and goes over it too with a battery pack in back if necessary to balance the weight. I have one, I used to have two or three I bought them and use them they were great so they've been out for a while but I guess I bet there's so much better now where is my headband I'm literally looking for it can't keep track of my own head if it is an attached. Anyway a headband that uses the same batteries maybe one maybe two because I think the charger I got if it's the same they can all go in the same charger. If you could point me in the direction of one that you'd buy yourself or you'd buy a loved one that you want to be able to give the gift of light in the dark, hands-free to do with they want or need to do that can both light up a dark wood, or a long dark hallway, blinding anyone in its path.... Old rat, my talk to text transcription stopped I kept rambled on cuz I'm not awake yet I'm getting there with coffees help but it's taking a while. I just want to thank you. If you can help me find a headlamp that maybe uses the same battery rechargeable battery that the ec300 that amazing super cool unbelievable wonderful light you showed me yesterday. Showed us yesterday, you want to realize that all your hard work is worth it, stop and listen to to me here, you literally have given me the gift of light. So that I can give it to my nieces and nephews as gifts. You've given them The gift of Life light I meant light it said life but I'm leaving it because it's right light is life not just the gift of light, The gift of Life potentially. Wow I'm not used to having my mind blown it at 6:25 a.m. in the morning. I'm used to normally being sound asleep until noon. Wow. Thank you, sincerely, chris.
Great review, but for me the magnetic tail is a drawback. I wear a mechanical watch on my left wrist and carry a light on the same side. I don’t want my watch near the magnet when I reach in my pocket, for fear of them being magnetized.
u/stavigoodbye It's an ongoing joke in the flashlight community to mention their name whenever the M150 is discussed ;). Truly what an amazing flashlight it is.
I think your missing an eagle tac aa in your line up... maybe a bit dated... but great ui.... imo. Anyways, thanks for the review. I love aa lights. This one looks interesting. Reminds me of the olight s1a baton. Still a favorite of mine
You can order the 14500 with USB-C charging. For the light itself, the magnetic charging is less prone to wear and doesn't affect water resistance, where USB lights will if the rubber flap gets undone.
v3 has no adequate middle (for long or regular walking, what needs > 30 lum) mode for 3000-4500k lamps. the driver should be updated to support this appropriately, but lazy producer left modes made for blue 6500k and so you get 2/3 of needed light. you may have 30 lumens on 10 years ago made keychain AAA flashlight, but can not on modern AA flashlight. lazy bad design. Then. how many people want a magnet in a pocket, what may harm electric devices near? who will charge batteries in a flashlight in homes today, what its more comfortably to do in a charger? those gimmicks add useless or even harmful functions by additional cost. another nonsense designed by marketologists instead of useful and reliable device with adequate price.
Side switch interfaces are _the tits._ Most AA or AAA flashlights use some wonky tactical half press/full press tail switch or twist/twist again head interface and they're all garbage nonsense. Olight really nailed the UI and I am glad that most manufacturers are copying their homework. I want an intuitive flashlight, I don't want to learn 100 different user interfaces and secret modes.

This is my new EDC. Dethroned all my other 14500/AA lights.
How long have you had it?
6 months edc and still can't find better. Just needs d3aa performance😀
Great review, but for me the magnetic tail is a drawback. I wear a mechanical watch on my left wrist and carry a light on the same side. I don’t want my watch near the magnet when I reach in my pocket, for fear of them being magnetized.
Luckily a demagnetizer off amazon cost about $10 and can quickly fix a magnetized watch. Or switch pockets for the light :D
You can remove the tail magnet. The magnet in the charging port can't be removed though unfortunately. It's not very strong though at least.
@@jrobertsrhsI believe the charging magnet is in the cable, and not in the body
@@macvos no, there's one in both.

It's an ongoing joke in the flashlight community to mention their name whenever the M150 is discussed ;). Truly what an amazing flashlight it is.
Is that a reddit user?
I think your missing an eagle tac aa in your line up... maybe a bit dated... but great ui.... imo. Anyways, thanks for the review. I love aa lights. This one looks interesting. Reminds me of the olight s1a baton. Still a favorite of mine
I have both the D25A, and D3A. Both are amazing
Still Cool.!

Right away, like the large-ish button.
I like the flashlight cant stand the ui, the anduril 2 is better for me.
Would buy if had built in usb-c
For a light this small, would not have been possible.. yes if they made it wider.
You can order the 14500 with USB-C charging. For the light itself, the magnetic charging is less prone to wear and doesn't affect water resistance, where USB lights will if the rubber flap gets undone.
After Olight I’m no longer interested in any other battery/micro usb powering system…batteries are probably the most annoying thing in my household.
Magnetic charging and stock cells is the best combo IMO.
👍🍻
v3 has no adequate middle (for long or regular walking, what needs > 30 lum) mode for 3000-4500k lamps. the driver should be updated to support this appropriately, but lazy producer left modes made for blue 6500k and so you get 2/3 of needed light. you may have 30 lumens on 10 years ago made keychain AAA flashlight, but can not on modern AA flashlight. lazy bad design.
Then. how many people want a magnet in a pocket, what may harm electric devices near? who will charge batteries in a flashlight in homes today, what its more comfortably to do in a charger? those gimmicks add useless or even harmful functions by additional cost. another nonsense designed by marketologists instead of useful and reliable device with adequate price.
This is actually even better than olight ui
the lens up clip design is not a win.
The clip can be flipped any way you want on this light.
