I love Daemon.
He doesn't want the crown. I agree with most of what you said, but I still think Daemon doesn't want the crown. The showrunners and Matt Smith have confirmed it several times: Daemon doesn't care about the throne, he wants his brother's approval and to strengthen the power of House Targaryen.

It does seem weird seeing Viserys and Daemon being close and happy, but that has always been the case for them. Daemon even gathered an army in support for Viserys' claim during the great council when Jaehaerys chose his heir. Daemon was always loving and supporting of his brother, he just hated the fact that the council always sends him away farther from his brother because Daemon was a child when his mother and father, Princess Alyssa and Prince Baelon died. Viserys was the only one remaining from their side of the family. The other sides of their family were Queen Aemma, the daughter of Princess Daella Targaryen, and Princess Rhaenys, the daughter of Prince Aemon Targaryen, the eldest son of the Old King.
That‘s very interesting, maybe that‘s why he saw Rhaenyra so close too and the perfect match for him. Because in Episode 6 Laena told him that she knew that she was not the one he really wanted to mary and it does not hurt her anymore. Viserys and Rhaenyra are in his view his „real“ Family because they are the „true“ Targaryens?
Has anyone mentioned the fact that Rhaenyra was able to pull the dagger out of the fire and not burn just like when Daenaerys first touched the dragon eggs were on the hot rocks etc…? I think these full blood Targayrans have a lot more power than they let on…Daemon has something extra as well…
To be certain, Rhaenyra didn't lie to Alicent, they didn't have sex in the brothel... they kissed and touched a tiny bit, but there was no fornication involved. She lost her virtue, not to Daemon in a pleasure house, but to Criston in her own rooms.
Well...."Daemon never touched me" was the lie. They didn't go all the way, but he certainly touched her and she *would* have had sex with him if he hadn't had a moment of guilt and stopped. She just added salt in the wound when she swore on the memory of her mother.
What a cop-out. She quite clearly said "Daemon never touched me", which is clearly untrue, he touched her often and all over. Why do people come up with these mental gymnastics in order to validate characters that they like, for whatever reason, is beyond me. inside the red keep there is a fortress called maegors holdfast which was built by king maegor the cruel 9they talk about him in episode 1), after the building was finished he executed everyone who worked on it to keep ithe secret passages within it secret, this is what rhaenyra used. in got varys uses it a lot and tyrion uses it to escape

Cor-liss. 😊 So people tend to miss this. You're correct, Daemon and Rhaenera didn't 'couple'. She wasn't technically lying to Alicent, as some people would assume 'he never touched me' to mean 'we never coupled'. She's nitpicking her words, and MEANS they didn't couple. We know they touched, and she would've coupled given the chance, but she's technically not lying. She was also careful to say 'DAEMON never touched me'. Conveniently omitting the fact that she coupled with Cristen. She purposely gave the impression to Alicent that she didn't couple with anyone, which Alicent fell for, hence the line to the King that Rhaenera had sworn she 'remains a maiden'. Rhaenera never said that, never swore that. Alicent just assumed, based on the knowledge she had, that Rhaenera was swearing she hadn't coupled. The King isn't so trusting lol, hence the tea 'just in case'.

Alicent really doesn’t get enough credit in her defense of Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra lied to her face without breaking a sweat and Alicent still had faith in her. Even when Viserys knew that Rhaenyra wasn’t completely innocent, Alicent continued to vouch for her because she trusted her. Then Rhaenyra furthers their division by getting Otto fired which will leave Alicent completely alone.
yeah, Alicent isn't nearly as unsymphatetic a character as many people seem to feel, it's just, she's a conformist, who has been taught to accept her culture's medieval values, and modern audiences are in love with rebellious, strong-willed characters who go against the norms, like Rhaenyra. It's for similar reasons that almost everyone (except for me) likes Arya much more than Sansa. To relate to and sympathise with a conformist is harder, especially if we don't share exactly the same values as them, yet, ironically, most of us are probably conformists much more than we are rebels.

I loved the saying “we will bring back house dragon to the proper glory” because Daemon knows she likes him and if you see more of Daemons character he is uneasy and complicated but he cares about his house and even before there were scenes that showed the connection between them. He wanted the throne but now he sees that maybe for a bit he wants her more than the throne. Plus “the king” who hasn’t had any real battles happening just drinking tournaments and Targaryen who does not even have his own dragon. He is the weakest from them all and as cunning Deamon is, he is the true nature of Targaryen house and so is his daughter and together they would really make the fire burn and show the glory. Sorry for the spam but the more you look at them the better it looks and connects 😂

He died by being murdered by his own men and brought back by the Lord of light all so he could continue his quest of defeating the dead. If Jon hadn't convinced the wildlings to fight with him they all would have died at hardhome. And if he hadn't convinced Daenerys to fight with him she would have gone straight to kingslanding and been killed by the Night King and his army. And he had the northern armies too.

I might could understand not being able to pronounce names if they weren't constantly being said in the show. The two guys that were fighting in the beginning scene are from two rival houses (Blackwoods and Brackens). They should not have been allowed to be in the same room with each other.
Think there has been some Daemon misinterpretation and in the comments. Episode one, the brothers had a painful conversation that changed history. Viserys told Daemon he was not half the man Otto was. Daemon had clearly carried pain prior to that. Not having made I’m Hand. Then he abandoned Daemon for three years, until the last moment of the war. Little brother painful relationship. Daemon was going to get Viserys back by secretly giving Viserys whispers he had taken her virginity. He would cut Viserys deep. He also believes Viserys has less care for their Valyrian culture than he should. That’s partly true. Lot of bad blood. Then Daemon, who loves Rhaenyra, realized what he was doing and stopped. Guilt. In the end he never actually did it. And tried to save it by marriage. It would restore strength to the family. Saved Rhaenyra from being married off to someone she hated or another family. And save the bloodline in many ways. Daemon knows that. He had angry intentions just like at Dragonstone, he was trying to get his brother to see him and Viserys didn’t come. Hurtful. From Daemons POV, that’s his truth.
I think Viserys is diabetic, which is why his wounds don't heal properly. I don't know if this has already been made explicit, but it's very easy to cut yourself with the Throne's swords. The Throne was made this way so it wouldn't be comfortable to sit on, so that people can remember that ruling is not something easy and simple, therefore they cannot be comfortable in this position of power.

In the books it’s rumoured he took her ‘maiden head’ to spite Otto. This was prior to her marrying his brother. Though with the books these rumours and accounts are given to the maester’s by unreliable narrators. Mostly Mushroom he essentially says everyone was sleeping with everyone.
Not that it makes any difference, but incest is NOT just a Targaryen thing. 🤣 Being with an uncle, cousin, etc. is okay by Westerosi standards and happens often between many families, not just the Targs. The thing the Targaryens are known for is sibling marriage, not just incest in general. Only sibling and parent incest is a sin in Westeros! :p
I think in the books Daemon and Raehnyra “worked together” to practice for her seduction of Criston Cole. She wanted to give her maidenhead to Criston so they did everything but. I guess this was the show’s way of priming her for that.
I mean, the books have different accounts of what happened. In the Cole situation, it actually seems more likely that Cole made a move on Rhaenyra and she rejected him. But unless we get a POV told version of the story or George confirms one of the accounts, we’ll never know for sure

One was that she made a move on Criston and he rejected her, one that he put the move on her and she rejected him, and the most salacious one (by Mushroom, of course...) that Daemon helped "prep" her for the attempted seduction of Criston. From what I've heard, what we're getting in the show is what actually happened, that got interpreted, spun, and/or manipulated in the histories written much later based on narratives provided by people who were viewing the events through their own bias filters. What GRRM refers to as "the unreliable narrator", something he often uses in his "Point of View Character" style.
Last note: Dragons are made with blood magic. Targaryen’s are made from Dragon blood. They have to marry each other in order to preserve the ability ride to dragons. Also they are the last of their race. Since Valyria blew up. Viserys wife was his cousin. He and Daemons parents were brother and sister as was their grandparents. Uncle and niece is pretty tame. A Stark house around this era also married uncle and niece. Cousin was common practice throughout Westeros as it was in our world for very long time.
I don't understand why you're surprised xD Cersei said during the later season that the Targaryen wed brothers and sisters... Uncle and Niece is rarer than brother and sister aha King Jahaerys and his wife/sister Alysanne Targaryen forced a new law that the Targaryen could marry incestuously since they are different from normal humans... Also because it was common in Old Valyra to keep the blood pure. The law is called Doctrine of Exceptionalism.

Yes Viserys has lost 2 fingers due to that nasty ass ‘rash’, so he always wears gloves to hide it. In the last episode, the scene where he kills the deer, you can actually see him struggling to hold the weapon and stab the animal because he’s missing fingers
I despised season 6 and beyond partly because the show stopped being about politics and became about how they were going to put together the next set-piece. HotD on the other hand is my jam because the conflict organically derives itself from the world, the politics and the personalities.

I know I’m not spoiling here as you’re ahead on patron. You’ll see Ser Criston gets quite bitter about his encounter and relationship with the princess and whilst I think he takes it too far at times - his bitterness that is. If he was a serving girl and it was a prince that closed the door as seen in a later scene with viewers reactions to something prince Aegon does the audience reacts different when genders are reversed in power . Whilst the intercourse with the princess and Criston is consensual - the power dynamic may have muddied or greyed the line between consent and duty/obedience. As he tells her in the previous episode this is as high as someone from House Cole has ever risen and he owes that to her. In the intercourse scene he refuses her serval times. I don’t deny he likely finds her beautiful, but she could just as easily have his white cloak stripped or even have him executed if he refuses her. She goes from Daemon who essentially is her equal he can refuse her and he does, he gets her going and walks away so she returns home and kisses Criston because she knows despite being a grown man, he owes her, she’s royal and he serves at her whim and can be punished at her will. Now he’s often called an Incel for his bitterness, but he was given very little choice to soil his white cloak, and yes perhaps he had feelings for her but it did not take away the fact that he either risked her displeasure or he broke his vows. And then add to this he gave in, not knowing why she chose him so he likely believed she loved him as they’d become friends he’d been her sworn shield since his induction that’s basically day and night at her side. Add to this shes refusing every match that comes her way and CONFIDING IN HIM about it all. He probably believes that he has little choice to soil his white cloak, but likely thinks she does at least loves him or has feelings for him as she knows what’s at stake for him and that the time they’ve spent together has made her want this enough to risk it for him and offer him something. Add to this her unique naming as her breaking rules, perhaps he thought she could convince her father to release him and they could be wed and if not well she’s confided in him that her duties often weigh her down so they could run away together. People often say they had one night together and he got bitter, but it wasn’t one night even if that was the only time they bedded, there’s been years between them laughs, whispers and friendship and she dismisses his feelings and the weight that the very grey encounter had on his life, his vows and what she may have meant to him. She shows him that they weren’t friends, you’re my servant, you’re nothing, you’re my ‘side piece’ and I’m a princess. She took their friendship made it something more, she gave him hope than spat on it. It wasn’t just a cloak that was soiled that night, it was Criston’s heart… (also before the black supports come at me I’m not a green supporter or a black. I think they’re both evil and good at times and right and wrong at others and that’s the point. I do however recognise and review each situation on its merits and try and analyse things from each characters POV as opposed to the lens’s most viewers do which is simply RHAENYRAS and not CRISTONS.)
Not to defend it or whatever, but a lot of youtubers who do reactions, or even people commenting online on reddit, twitter, etc. speak of the whole uncle incest thing as the most improbable thing ever. European history shows how a ton of royalty married their first, second cousins and aunts/uncles to keep their bloodlines "pure". Sure, for us modern audiences, it's weird af, but you need to take it with a grain of salt. It IS a fantasy show, but it's still based on real-world dynamics. 10% of the world still marries their cousins anyway, albeit way less in north america than the rest of the world but still. Hell, Queen Elizabeth II was married to her second cousin..
The Vaelaryan Steel dagger passed from generation to generation, from one king to another, from King Littlefinger to King Cutthroat. Yet, somehow nobody in modern Westoros had a clue of its true background. Such poor writing, highlighting it's true significance here, while it being an afterthought in its use in the assassination attempt on Bran. The dagger was treated like an ordinary dagger, as nobody thought it was a bit odd for someone to arm a cutthroat with such a rare dagger, if they truly wanted to be discreet about the assassination attempt.

To be certain, Rhaenyra didn't lie to Alicent, they didn't have sex in the brothel... they kissed and touched a tiny bit, but there was no fornication involved. She lost her virtue, not to Daemon in a pleasure house, but to Criston in her own rooms.
Well...."Daemon never touched me" was the lie. They didn't go all the way, but he certainly touched her and she *would* have had sex with him if he hadn't had a moment of guilt and stopped. She just added salt in the wound when she swore on the memory of her mother.

So people tend to miss this. You're correct, Daemon and Rhaenera didn't 'couple'. She wasn't technically lying to Alicent, as some people would assume 'he never touched me' to mean 'we never coupled'. She's nitpicking her words, and MEANS they didn't couple. We know they touched, and she would've coupled given the chance, but she's technically not lying. She was also careful to say 'DAEMON never touched me'. Conveniently omitting the fact that she coupled with Cristen. She purposely gave the impression to Alicent that she didn't couple with anyone, which Alicent fell for, hence the line to the King that Rhaenera had sworn she 'remains a maiden'. Rhaenera never said that, never swore that. Alicent just assumed, based on the knowledge she had, that Rhaenera was swearing she hadn't coupled. The King isn't so trusting lol, hence the tea 'just in case'.
Withholding the truth is lying. Rhaenyra was 100% lying to her face and that’s why Alicent is so angry when she finds out the truth.

Alicent really doesn’t get enough credit in her defense of Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra lied to her face without breaking a sweat and Alicent still had faith in her. Even when Viserys knew that Rhaenyra wasn’t completely innocent, Alicent continued to vouch for her because she trusted her. Then Rhaenyra furthers their division by getting Otto fired which will leave Alicent completely alone.
yeah, Alicent isn't nearly as unsymphatetic a character as many people seem to feel, it's just, she's a conformist, who has been taught to accept her culture's medieval values, and modern audiences are in love with rebellious, strong-willed characters who go against the norms, like Rhaenyra. It's for similar reasons that almost everyone (except for me) likes Arya much more than Sansa. To relate to and sympathise with a conformist is harder, especially if we don't share exactly the same values as them, yet, ironically, most of us are probably conformists much more than we are rebels.

I loved the saying “we will bring back house dragon to the proper glory” because Daemon knows she likes him and if you see more of Daemons character he is uneasy and complicated but he cares about his house and even before there were scenes that showed the connection between them. He wanted the throne but now he sees that maybe for a bit he wants her more than the throne. Plus “the king” who hasn’t had any real battles happening just drinking tournaments and Targaryen who does not even have his own dragon. He is the weakest from them all and as cunning Deamon is, he is the true nature of Targaryen house and so is his daughter and together they would really make the fire burn and show the glory. Sorry for the spam but the more you look at them the better it looks and connects 😂

If Jon hadn't convinced the wildlings to fight with him they all would have died at hardhome. The two guys that were fighting in the beginning scene are from two rival houses (Blackwoods and Brackens). They should not have been allowed to be in the same room with each other.
Think there has been some Daemon misinterpretation and in the comments. Episode one, the brothers had a painful conversation that changed history. Viserys told Daemon he was not half the man Otto was. Daemon had clearly carried pain prior to that. Not having made I’m Hand. Then he abandoned Daemon for three years, until the last moment of the war. Little brother painful relationship. Daemon was going to get Viserys back by secretly giving Viserys whispers he had taken her virginity. He would cut Viserys deep. He also believes Viserys has less care for their Valyrian culture than he should. That’s partly true. Lot of bad blood. Then Daemon, who loves Rhaenyra, realized what he was doing and stopped. Guilt. In the end he never actually did it. And tried to save it by marriage. It would restore strength to the family. Saved Rhaenyra from being married off to someone she hated or another family. And save the bloodline in many ways. Daemon knows that. He had angry intentions just like at Dragonstone, he was trying to get his brother to see him and Viserys didn’t come. Hurtful. From Daemons POV, that’s his truth.
I think Viserys is diabetic, which is why his wounds don't heal properly. I don't know if this has already been made explicit, but it's very easy to cut yourself with the Throne's swords. The Throne was made this way so it wouldn't be comfortable to sit on, so that people can remember that ruling is not something easy and simple, therefore they cannot be comfortable in this position of power.
the kid is a Blackwood and the guy who taunts him is a Bracken, two houses who have feuded for millennia, and who will play an important role later on!

I think in the books Daemon and Raehnyra “worked together” to practice for her seduction of Criston Cole. She wanted to give her maidenhead to Criston so they did everything but. I guess this was the show’s way of priming her for that.

I mean, the books have different accounts of what happened. In the Cole situation, it actually seems more likely that Cole made a move on Rhaenyra and she rejected him. But unless we get a POV told version of the story or George confirms one of the accounts, we’ll never know for sure

One was that she made a move on Criston and he rejected her, one that he put the move on her and she rejected him, and the most salacious one (by Mushroom, of course...) that Daemon helped "prep" her for the attempted seduction of Criston. From what I've heard, what we're getting in the show is what actually happened, that got interpreted, spun, and/or manipulated in the histories written much later based on narratives provided by people who were viewing the events through their own bias filters. What GRRM refers to as "the unreliable narrator", something he often uses in his "Point of View Character" style.

A Stark house around this era also married uncle and niece. Cousin was common practice throughout Westeros as it was in our world for very long time.

Uncle and Niece is rarer than brother and sister aha King Jahaerys and his wife/sister Alysanne Targaryen forced a new law that the Targaryen could marry incestuously since they are different from normal humans... Also because it was common in Old Valyra to keep the blood pure. The law is called Doctrine of Exceptionalism.

I despised season 6 and beyond partly because the show stopped being about politics and became about how they were going to put together the next set-piece. HotD on the other hand is my jam because the conflict organically derives itself from the world, the politics and the personalities.

I know I’m not spoiling here as you’re ahead on patron. You’ll see Ser Criston gets quite bitter about his encounter and relationship with the princess and whilst I think he takes it too far at times - his bitterness that is. If he was a serving girl and it was a prince that closed the door as seen in a later scene with viewers reactions to something prince Aegon does the audience reacts different when genders are reversed in power . Whilst the intercourse with the princess and Criston is consensual - the power dynamic may have muddied or greyed the line between consent and duty/obedience. As he tells her in the previous episode this is as high as someone from House Cole has ever risen and he owes that to her. In the intercourse scene he refuses her serval times. I don’t deny he likely finds her beautiful, but she could just as easily have his white cloak stripped or even have him executed if he refuses her. She goes from Daemon who essentially is her equal he can refuse her and he does, he gets her going and walks away so she returns home and kisses Criston because she knows despite being a grown man, he owes her, she’s royal and he serves at her whim and can be punished at her will. Now he’s often called an Incel for his bitterness, but he was given very little choice to soil his white cloak, and yes perhaps he had feelings for her but it did not take away the fact that he either risked her displeasure or he broke his vows. And then add to this he gave in, not knowing why she chose him so he likely believed she loved him as they’d become friends he’d been her sworn shield since his induction that’s basically day and night at her side. Add to this shes refusing every match that comes her way and CONFIDING IN HIM about it all. He probably believes that he has little choice to soil his white cloak, but likely thinks she does at least loves him or has feelings for him as she knows what’s at stake for him and that the time they’ve spent together has made her want this enough to risk it for him and offer him something. Add to this her unique naming as her breaking rules, perhaps he thought she could convince her father to release him and they could be wed and if not well she’s confided in him that her duties often weigh her down so they could run away together. People often say they had one night together and he got bitter, but it wasn’t one night even if that was the only time they bedded, there’s been years between them laughs, whispers and friendship and she dismisses his feelings and the weight that the very grey encounter had on his life, his vows and what she may have meant to him. She shows him that they weren’t friends, you’re my servant, you’re nothing, you’re my ‘side piece’ and I’m a princess. She took their friendship made it something more, she gave him hope than spat on it. It wasn’t just a cloak that was soiled that night, it was Criston’s heart… (also before the black supports come at me I’m not a green supporter or a black. I think they’re both evil and good at times and right and wrong at others and that’s the point. I do however recognise and review each situation on its merits and try and analyse things from each characters POV as opposed to the lens’s most viewers do which is simply RHAENYRAS and not CRISTONS.)

European history shows how a ton of royalty married their first, second cousins and aunts/uncles to keep their bloodlines "pure". Sure, for us modern audiences, it's weird af, but you need to take it with a grain of salt. It IS a fantasy show, but it's still based on real-world dynamics. 10% of the world still marries their cousins anyway, albeit way less in north america than the rest of the world but still. Hell, Queen Elizabeth II was married to her second cousin..

The Vaelaryan Steel dagger passed from generation to generation, from one king to another, from King Littlefinger to King Cutthroat. Yet, somehow nobody in modern Westoros had a clue of its true background. Such poor writing, highlighting it's true significance here, while it being an afterthought in its use in the assassination attempt on Bran. The dagger was treated like an ordinary dagger, as nobody thought it was a bit odd for someone to arm a cutthroat with such a rare dagger, if they truly wanted to be discreet about the assassination attempt.
