    Sandhi doesn't mean collaboration, it means joining. It is used in the sense of a grammatical joining between two words, never as a joining or collaboration of people to do something.

      CuteCatFaith Prices pretty high here in Pennsylvania. I had really high tolerance after my 2 week trip in San Francisco. I found a place that sold bottles for $3.

      You might want to look into my Slovenian relatives in the Cleveland, Ohio area. I don't even recall their name, but the clevelandmarko channel can direct you. My Parisian spouse quit drinking well over a decade ago, but he was an absolute wine snob, and he was thrilled with that wine on a visit to my family in Ohio. He felt it compared with the lower tier types of French wines just fine, and I recall I found it highly, highly affordable. The regions just South of Lake Erie are great for vines. The weather is horrible, the people are horrible, but hey. I went nuts over the wines of the North Fork of Long Island, New York. You will likely have to bite the bullet when you find something you like, and buy a case at a time. I relied heavily on Astor Wines in NYC back in the day. I could get a human on the phone to help me select my orders, and even though I lived in Brooklyn most of my time in NYC, I could get in on their weekly Brooklyn delivery. I think when an economy is busy, wine prices can be quite reasonable. It's just a theory. I am in my sixth decade, and have lived, worked and studied in four countries. The poorer the population is, the more any vices will tend to cost. Despite what I hear from the sour grapes crowd in the USA, France is doing fine -- not everywhere, but in and around Paris, things have been gangbusters since 2010. The recession was hell in 2009, you could hear a pin drop, but it was very, very, very short term. A lot of people in France have a NICOLAS in their town, city or village. This is a "caviste." You can arrange for cases of wine and any specialty alcohols they have, but they also have these cheapies from family vineyards, general label, and it's about 2 USD per bottle. PointduJour means daybreak, right? xo bises

      I know it to mean "daybreak." "Pont" is bridge, "point" is a period in grammar or some other things. I knew some really nice Haitians in NYC. Very hard-working. There are some pretty funny names for people among blacks, in French. A flower or a month is a man's name, such as Hyacinthe or Violet, or Avril, and Dieudonné is a fun one, "God-given." Aimé (Amy) is also a man's name in French ("beloved"). A lot of people in the South of the USA have French names and they don't know why. They are probably descendants of French child slaves. Any unaccompanied child was seized until about 1800 (a little before). The parents or guardians had to show up and pay the fine, or the kid was sent overseas "to propagate the French race." This was highly lucrative for the régime(s). They either got the fees, or the price on a kid for free labor. I have an ancestor in the USA who was named "Favorite." He wasn't the favorite at all, she just had a lot of children, and that was the easiest birth, so he was "Favorite William." How did you end up with "Blayer?"

      +irishelk being cosmopolitan has nothing to do with being well traveled. it has to do with being comfortable and fluent in different cultures. we live in a cosmopolitan world where traditional stereotypes no longer apply. people can abandon their childhood culture and become a part of another culture, or many cultures that they feel an affinity for. it's actually a beautiful thing.

Well i hate to inform you, you may live in a well sheltered area and nicely cocooned in your upper middle class neighborhood, but unfortunately people do still use stereotypes, i personally dont care about a persons social status because these things are just bullshit, once someone is decent and down to earth and doesnt look down on others then im cool with them.

      of course stereotypes still exist, but the point is that the world is civilized and free enough now that stereotypes or tradition no longer limit what individuals can do. you see it a lot in chef and wine making culture. in fact that is pretty much what this Chef's Night Out series is all about... the appreciation and fusing of different cultures.
      none of this has anything to do with social status. you are simply showing your own insecurity.

      If you look closely, they are drinking a very expensive bottle of Jacques Selosse, which is from Champagne. Also, Rajat Parr is one of the best sommeliers in the United States.

      X379 You are right... it didn't even stroke my mind, thinking of a grower champagne. It surely doesn't look like a classic champagne.
      Very expensive? Only for what it is [Dom Perignon rose or even Roederer Cristal rose are more expensive].
      Not sure though, if it shows great appreciation, to drink on the road a prestige rose champagne...

      Dominik MJ To be honest I don't really see respect with people drinking gobs of Dom Perignon or Armand de Brignac either, in clubs and at parties etc. So I feel like drinking a great grower champagne in a car is at least a little better, but not right. But still, if you asked me to have a bottle of Selosse rose or Roederer Cristal, I'd rather have the Selosse. I think the price is based on reputation from the producer and still being Grand Cru just like so many other prestigious champagnes.

      X379 You are right. To get drunk in nightclubs seems quite wrong [well it really also depends in the setting]. But at least a sommelier supposed to know better. Cristal is pretty much overpriced - I never tried Selosse - however I tried a lot of wines and champagnes and I can't see a point to spend so much money on one bottle. It is reputation, limited production, etc. - but I can't see a wine to have that much value. Actually I have tried e.g. Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage - yes it is slightly more expensive than the original - yes it is still a big brand - but this champagne I can have fun with [sounds a bit wrong, doesn't it?]! Amazing [though on a clearly higher note] is Nicolas Feuillate Palm d'Or.
      I am usually pretty disappointed by Dom Perignon - not a bad champagne at any means, though not really what I expect for the price...

    That 'rose champagne' has a colour of 1970s sauternes. Either too old or light-strucked. Don't think that will taste right. And Chinese cha-siu sauce BBQ vegetable... erm, I will pass that.
