They were married in '65 and watched the '66 final in a packed neighbours house who happened to own a TV.
My mum was perched on the arm of a sofa near the end of the game. When the 4th goal went in everyone on the sofa jumped up, and my mum and the sofa tipped over sideways!
Crazy to think she was younger then than my oldest daughter is now.
I was 8 years old in '66, and I'm 66 now, and I've been waiting all this time just like your dad. Let's all hope the wait is over tonight. Come on England !

I’m watching it with my mum 93, to remember something that’s so long ago is amazing. What’s more amazing is mum was 14 when the war finished, she was in the London blitz with scars from a land mine that blow up the house next door. She had gas lighting in the house with an outside loo and a tin bath that was placed in front of an open fire to wash in once a week. Only entertainment was a wireless radio. What a life to live from that to her now sitting playing with her iPad ! So much has changed in those years, appreciate these moments with your dad they are very special !

Never a doubt about Spain. England don't have it. Southgate isn't the man despite turning the national team from perennial losers into the nearly-men. All 3 of these backing England is the sort of delusion that stops the national mindset from pivoting toward realism and adaptability, the likes of which has got Spain over the line multiple times, and relying solely on vibes and aura.

The problem with “we have great players on the bench” is that we cannot just rely on moments. Spain play as a two, with a game model. They may not have the world recognised players but they all play and for the system which stems from La Liga to the national team.
Germany thought the same"they only have Yamal and Nico and they're too Young" but what I like about Spain is that we have many solutions and you forget the rest of the squad Rodri,Dani Olmo,Fabian Ruiz,Carvajal, Cucurella...

You must’ve been watching a different game the last 15 to 20 minutes Kane was on the pitch he never touched the ball once he should be on the bench and put the best team out on the pitch. He’s not up to par not from the first game the second game the third game fourth game he was nowhere to be seen, he couldn’t hold the ball up, he cannot run. I think my grandmother without running and she’s been dead for 50 years we have got to start with 11 men on the pitch with Kane on the pitch we are down to 10 and then everybody’s trying to cover for him. Did you not watch the game? The last half an hour passed to him because you get on losing the ball at one stage Bellingham look at him straight in the face. thought about passing to him and knew if he passed to him he would lose the ball and pass to someone else. It’s a shame to say I know he was a good striker but he’s been playing second division football in Germany and that’s the problem. He’s not up to task now he’s lost it, we’re gonna win this. We have to start with our best players and Kane isn’t one of them.

The trippier take doesn’t make sense for me, just for this game. England will go stretches without the ball and will be defending. And Yamal will be cutting inside onto his left. If anything this is a game that suits trippier rather than a not match sharp Shaw.
I think they have misinterpreted how Yamal plays. He is not a winger who takes on players and tries to dribble past them. Most of the time he cuts in on his left.
Nobody mentioning that Shaw cut back inside just as much as Trippier did when he came on, the issue is a lack of movement ahead of them

Congrats to Spain, they played the best no doubt and throughout the tournament. We tried to bank on those key moments but it just wasn’t enough.
I live in the south of France for the last 20 or so years, from Derby grew up a football fan player and so on. I woke up at 5 excited nervous and slightly shitting it. My son is 10 and I wish to relive the memories of my dad and my grandad watching in 66. My generation has had it hard but BIG BUT, I feel it. Come on England #ibelieve

That first half is the first time we've played against a team in 4 3 3, we overloaded the midfield and bossed the game until Koeman changed it. The Dutch manager made his changes at half time, then England disappeared in the second half because of the changes the Dutch made, as usual Southgate sat there and done nothing until ten minutes from the end, Ollie dug him out, the guy is not a elite manager, this game proved it beyond doubt.

Spain will hit the ground running. We have to be very careful in the first 30 - 40 minutes. The most experienced players will be needed in that first half. Foden owes us an assist or goal. We have to attack from the start.
Let's not over hype the wunderkind. Did you know he's only 17! 😂 You can guarantee the Spanish aren't fawning over Mainoo! The English sense of fair play is admirable but needs to change is these circumstances 😉

We have 1 big advantage in my opinion over the Spanish. That is our bench, we've got unbelievable talent to come on. Not using our bench in the WC, SF cost us, it also cost us in the last Euro's final. If our manager has learnt anything, it should be to use the brilliant bench we have. When you account for the way Spain play, the way we are trying to play, and also obvious form, starting Kane over Watkins is ridiculous.
Anyone who had another look at the France, Spain second half would realise that Spain rode their luck in that game. They hardly created a chance in that half, save a speculative shot from Lamal and gave up half a dozen decent chances. They were opened up on the flanks time and again and if Demebele had a final ball they would have been in trouble. But that half gets tuned out because of the general narrative around France. They didn't control that game.
Trust 5-2 to spain lamal scores on 4th minute, it would be 3 for england but kane was offside, goal disallowed

Great - review. My sense: because Spain are not afraid of losing the ball they will win, because they will also chase to win it back (and they will - because we can't hang on to it). People are putting way too high of an expectation on Mainoo. This is the problem with modern football, we build up these young players just to tear them down. This won’t be a pretty game at all, if we were to win it will be by the skin of our teeth. Saying ‘’Its written in the stars Mainoo scores’’ and ‘’He will show Rodri levels’’ is putting too much pressure on the young lad.
What if he does? You think he feels the pressure of what people say when he has shown he doesn't. He plays for man united, arguably top 3 clubs in the world. He had pressure his whole life
Seems to be dealing with it okay so far. He's a special player. Proved it at United and now on the big stage. He can only get better.
Mainoo has probably been the most consistently high performer at the Euros. Hes been excellent every game.

Southgate started the last Euro final with a back 5, and that had both Shaw and Trippier as wingbacks, yeah, 2 holding midfielders, and no room for Saka in the starting 11
This formation is different though. The two attacking midfielders allows you to play 4 in the central areas (Jude, Foden, Rice and Mainoo), no matter whether you’re attacking or defending.
