You know what this song is about? A job. Maybe it's because I'm old, but in these lyrics all I hear is the workingman's lament. 'Blacken the cursed sun'? You hate to see the morning come because all it means is another day at work. 'No one left to see this prodigal's return'? You get home late after everyone's in bed. "Sunk so far and low there is no tomorrow'? All those plans and great things you were going to do when you were young have all disappeared while you were working for a living. 'Sweet apathy's my toll'? Self-explanatory. I need to retire.
@@johnberger55I think his comment was moreso relating to the "underrated" comment. Considering LoG is probably a top 3 band this century both in terms of quality and popularity.
No one growl like Randy does. It's not crunchy, it's creamy. It sounds like a beast is fighting for a good reason. Also, this is such a good venting place that it's actually kind of healing. I love it.
I live in Aurora, Colorado. A few years back I went to a "reunion" party, we all graduated in the early to mid 2000's between 2003-2006, and I met up with a bunch of friends and peeps and the coolest mofo's on the planet for a little get together. Of course we got drunk, high, and whatever else, cause we live in freaking Colorado, and we know how to have a GOOD TIME.. and the night carried away...At some point we were all down in the host's basement and started to jam to this record! It's one of our all-time favorites. When this song came on, we were FULLY HYPED!!!! I mean FULL OUT RAGING and having the time of our lives!!! When the "BREAKDOWN" moment happened during this song at the 2:54 mark...WE FUCKING LOST OUR MINDS!!!!!!!!!!! I can't quite explain what hole we ripped into the Universe, but we created an energy I have never EVER felt before or since. it was the indescribable and absolutely something every human being should experience at least once in their lives, in whatever form, genre, or medium they partake. This moment was so electrifying that after the song finished, not even joking, a few of us, including myself, collapsed. This song will forever be seared into my soul as one of the greatest musical moments of my life. I often listen to this song just to get a glimpse of what I felt that night, and yet its' a mere fraction of the magnitude of what we achieved. Long live Lamb of God!!!
i love this band i’ve seen them atleast 15 times because anselmo always has them with him. i love how they leaned into lamb of god name after burn the pr*est. don’t know if that’ll make it through without censoring my amendments right but
The 1st time I heard this Song, I literally went up on the Rooftop in *Blazing Summers* & played this on my Headphones while the Sun was over my Head The *opening Riff & the Drumming* are phenomenal in this Song *4:20** Riffing* accompanied with that Scream is 1 of the Heaviest Sections I've ever heard 🤒

Great song for the eclipse today

To have sunk so far and low there is no tomorrow
After all these years 4:15 is the nastiest breakdown in metal. The build up, the scream, the groove, the chants. Perfection.
I would agree this is one of the bands nastiest breakdowns and disgusting/amazing technique by Randy
