It's very interesting that the author made Thorfinn a pacifist, otherwise Garm would be in a grave even though he was one of the best fighters. It is obvious that this idea came from the author because Thorfinn would become the strongest in the history when he reached adulthood. So he was "nerfed" then opponents would have a chance

ye nah the author didn't make him a pacifist to nerf him, he did it because its the entire purpose of the story. thorfinn learns that a "true warrior", or rather a man so strong he is functionally invincible, does not need to kill. you see, an animal will kill everything around him to protect himself. a soldier will kill only his enemies to protect himself and his friends/family. a true warrior, as the story argues, kills nothing because he protects everything he can, including his foes.
