An interesting angle might be looking at people who are moving back to Wisconsin. We moved to Florida twenty years ago. At the time we came down, I connected with a recruiter to help in a job search. I remember when I told her I was from Wisconsin she said "You're not going to be without a job long. When employers down here find out you're from the Midwest, they snatch them up." She was right. I had a job pretty quickly after. Now we've bought a second home in Wisconsin and plan to retire there. For family, friends and the people in general.

Hey! We’ve had friends move to other areas of the south and employers had the same view of Midwesterner’s there too. Our friends were also surprised at the lack of the willingness to put in a good days work down there. The midwestern work ethic is one thing that makes Wisconsinites unique!

I'd rather take winters over anything like :
    Tornadoes
    Droughts
    Wildfires
    Hurricanes
    Earthquakes
    Tsunamis
    Bad flooding
    Sand storms
    Sink holes
    Avalanches

I have never been in a walgreens in a red state, where items as low as $2 are locked behind a glass case, and I have to find one of the dumbass workers who are out back smoking weed, to come and open the case. Shopping in walgreens in your state takes over an hour for 5 items.
Woke is easy to define. A crazy leftist that agrees with insane ideologies that don't benefit anyone. You don't find it insane that you can't shop at walgrens without having to flag down an employee, if you can find one, just to get a small item? They need to assign an employee for everyone to follow them, so that they can shop efficiently.
Florida doesn't have these issues. There is a reason. Red states don't put up with pathetic rhetoric virtue signaling bullshit.

Regarding winters in Wisconsin... Some say winter in Wisconsin is brutal. Winters in Wisconsin used to be brutal. Global warming has changed that.
50 years ago it was more or less routine to get a 10 day-two week stretch of very cold weather in January. -15 or -20 was often the case. Often, a snow storm of 8"-10" or more would come before the severe cold. This could repeat in February.
It is still possible to get this kind of weather. But winters have been quite a bit more mild for many years now. Remember, Wisconsin IS a northern state.
Wisconsin can also be very warm, but hasn't been so for a number of years.
Flooding happens in some places at times.
The greatest weather threat, in my opinion, are tornadoes. Those are usually most possible during transitional times of the year. Even then, Wisconsin isn't like Oklahoma.

That said, the crazy high property taxes isn't justifiable considering CA actually has a lower percentage of property tax but the values are much higher. The cold winters don't bother me as I've been use to it. The hot and muggy summer months could be an issue as I'm a runner and that climate makes it very difficult. Retiree's living on their savings, investments and other income, need affordable housing with low taxes, plus some states provide no taxing on retirement income. At the other end of the spectrum, are the young professionals and skilled blue color workforce. Affording an apartment or the price of almost any starter home is difficult to afford at this juncture in their work life. The powerful real estate lobby in Madison is mainly responsible for the high cost of living in the greater Madison area. Through the eighties and into the early nineties Madison housing costs were within normal ranges, then it began to rise at a unprecedented rate to where we are now. Who does this really benefit?

Florida doesn't have that issue, because we prosecute criminals, instead of punishing the shoppers who are spending money by making them try and search for some idiot who isn't doing their job, to come and open a locked glass case, just to get deodorant.
But yeah...blue collar Republicans are the reason...hahahah.

Id say about maybe 10% of the people who come up to order food, are nice and sweet. The other 90% are entitled, rude, cheap, and just make me want to get the fair over with as soon as possible. They complain about everything. The price. The portion size. The fact that i have to charge for extra things. The fact that it is a busy fair, and sometimes we run out of certain things because it is such a busy fair, that we cant get more ingredients the same day. Just all around entitlement. Like we are supposed to love and thank them for visiting the fair.
We have 25 other spots just as busy, with half the assholes. If it was my food stand, i woud never work the state fair again.
The last day just happened today, and i couldnt be happier to get the hell out of this place, away from these brats. Hunnnnnnnn, meet me at the bubbler, then we are ganna go get sum cheese curds hunnnn. Maybe grab a pop if we can find a stand that isnt charging 8 dollars for a pop! (Spoiler alert, every stand charges the same amount for a drink, because vendors are made to buy our cups from the fair board, and we all have to charge the same amount).
God im so glad to get out of this place haha.

Well, seems like you should come to expect that when you're at a place selling overpriced items in small portion sizes. I have a hard time believing that's unique to one state. I've lived in multiple states, and I never experienced people being happy about essentially getting ripped off. I mean you pretty much exposed how nice and friendly you are by mocking people using stereotypical language. Perhaps people can sense that, and aren't particularly friendly back.
