A NEW TOGGLE TRICK NOBODY KNOWS

  • I WAS WATCHING A UA-cam CHANNEL AND SAW HOW THIS GENTLEMAN USED A SIMPLE TOGGLE TO FORM A LOCKING TOGGLE. FROM THAT I FELT I COULD ADD THE TOGGEL TO MY ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE AND FORM A LOCKING TOGGLE LOOP THAT WOULD WORK LIKE A CINCH STRAP FOR HOLDING LOADS.I USED MY WCKNIVES BLACKBIRD TO CUT A OAK BRANCH OF PROPER SIZE. THEN I REMOVED THE BARK AND LOCATED THE PLACE TO CUT THE SMALL HOLE FOR THE 550 PARACORD. TO BORE THE HOLE I USED MY VICTORNOX FIELDMASTER CUTTING AWL. THIS AWL ALLOWED THE HOLE TO BE CLEAN CUT WITH LESS CHANCE OF SPLINT THE OAK STICK. ONCE THE BASICK HOLE WAS BORED I SHIFTED THE THE SMALL BLADE OF THE FIELDMASTE TO DRESS THE EDGES AND PREVENT SPLITING. FINALLY I USED THE PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER TO FULLY OPEN AND ROUND OUT THE HOLE . I HAD ARLEADY CREATED A ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE FROM 550 PAPACORD.ITH THE END PASSED THRU THE TOGGLE I CREATED I WAS READY TO TEST MY IDEA. USING THE ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE CORD FIT THE LOAD BY SLIDING THE PRUSICK KNOT TO PROPER SIZE.THEN THE TOGGLE USED TO CINCH THE LOAD TIGHT THE TOGGLE PREVENTS THE PARACORD FROM SLIPPING AND SERVES THE PLACE OF A BUCKLE WITH OUT HAVING TO TIE KNOTS.

Hey Blackie, Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! I was thinking when you mentioned of shortening the toggle, would it maybe be better to leave it the length you originally have it 2"-3" so maybe it wouldn't undo as easily while walking through thicker brush from hitting on a limb/snag. Yes it might still twist from being longer but it will be less likely "longer length" of popping under the synch down line? Just a thought ;) Keep bringing the great video's 👍

Get that vid out there. Ive been using this method for my ridgeline. Essentially a truckers hitch with the toggle placed through the loop you make, then wrap around the toggle figure of eight or tie off. Got a permanently attached toggle at the other end for securing the loop around the other tree 👍 i hang things off my ridgeline so i like a lot of tension.
Just checked the date on the vid above. Also checked out the ridgeline vid. We came to exactly the same solution independently 👍

At least in the bushcraft community. I love when people do, so I can go find new channels to learn from. I've followed Blackie and Felix for a long time, but I've followed a lot of people on their and other people's acknowledgment. Plus, it makes me respect them more because they aren't pretending to be all-knowing bushcraft gods. They are willing to show that they are still a much students as the teachers. I think that's necessary in a good teacher

I watched Felix's video yesterday and made a few of theses. I tapered my toggle ends. That made the undoing easier. The toggle also works on tarp tie outs, so it could be an adjustable guildline. The toggle works on a trucker hitch too, so good for ridgelines.

Try a 3 wrap taught line hitch instead of your prussik. Much cleaner. Larger 6 foot toggle lines were used by the British commandos in WW2. The use by the common soldier of “small hemp cords, an arms breadth, with a toggle” are documented since the 18th century. Felix really rocks!

The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Camper model is the most versatile of their line of knives. It's small so it carries easily in any pocket yet it's big enough to handle most field craft applications and there isn't any unnecessary tools on it that just adds bulk like their larger models and it's cost is on the lower end which makes it affordable for most.

Thanks for the video. As I told Felix on his link when you cinch down your pack it is very tight. but all you have to do is pull on the toggle and it comes loose. You people that say that you’ve successfully done this can I have you do it again. And then pull on the toggle (simulates hitting/bumping the toggle on rocks while hiking and climbing). it comes loose. At least it does for me with military-grade 550 and 275 paracords.

Hey from Canada, love your stuff and devious mind, what about a heavy rubber hose in the bowline so you can pull using the hose as a handle, even better leave a slot in the hose so the cordage can create a loop coming out of the slot to attach to the toggle to create a carry handle like you showed...

I might do this with my clothesline. Right now I'm using perfection loops and taught line hitches.

Saw Felix Immler do this about a year ago. Works great. I recommend replacing the bowline with a zeppelin loop always as there are situations where a bowline has failed and the zeppelin is one of the strongest knots you can use. Then use that for the toggle loop. Then for looks use a monkey fist on the other end.

nice! another way to do it without the stick is to make a loop on one end of the cordage, wrap it around whatever you want and then just put the other end of the line throught the loop TWO TIMES and then pull and sinch it, it will have enough friction to hold. you can tie the rest of the line just above it make sure it doesn't slip but it won't. to undo it you pull the line in the opposite direction and it will undo itself easily. very good for tree to tree lines for tarps as well: tie one end to a tree then go around the other tree, make a loop somewhere on the rope, free end goes two times throught just like before and pull towards the second tree. try it out it's worth it :) have a good day!
