THANK you for this tutorial! My son wants to make a pair for a Halloween costume and this is the best, most thoughtful tutorial I've found. This makes so much sense!
Glad that you like the show Heather. I am still using these after all these years and it is for a Halloween costume as well. The design is still rock solid and there's nothing that I would change. Good luck on your project and thanks for tuning in to the show.
Hi Kenny, I just made a pair of 18" stilts for jetting in my boat dock in 6 feet of water. The stilts worked perfectly and gave me enough height to get the job done. Walking was easy (in the water). Thanks for posting your video!
Excellent use for the stilts Steven. Glad to hear that they worked out for you. And to think, that I only used them to scare kids on Halloween. LOL. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Great build Ken and exhibition of the fine art of stilt-walking. I saw something new on the left end of the work bench, it was a little man running, I suppose to get out of falling range of you. God Bless my friend.
He had better run a little faster Frank. I'm glad to report that I have yet to fall wearing the stilts. I'm glad that I don't drink because I would hate to see the disaster of mixing stilts with alcohol. Always great to hear from you my friend.
So cool! I can guarantee I will not be making a set of stilts. If I did I am sure there would be an old man with at least one broken leg or worse. LOL. At the end it looked like you had them pretty well mastered. Nice project Ken.
Thanks Paul. Just move to Canada and then you have free medical care so you can break all the bones you like. LOL. Thanks for the kind words on the project and for taking the time to leave me a comment. I appreciate it.
These take me back to my childhood, although ours were not so fancy, just a long piece of timber with a block nailed on for your foot to rest on. Great costume too Kenny, would have scared the life out of kids seeing a 7' 6" ghoul walking down the street. :)
I was a good time for sure Brian. Scared more adults than I did kids. It was definitely a lot of fun and we will be doing it again next year. Thanks for tuning in.
G’day Kenny, I’d sort of thought about doing a similar project as I remember how much fun stilts brought me when I was a younger lad, great little project & keep em coming 👍👍👍👍👍
Great little project. Of course the kids will be more apt to catch on much quicker than us older folks. Balance degrades as we age, unless of course a person is into some sort of activity that practices balance, like martial arts or certain sports. It might not be a bad upgrade to add an articulating foot with minimal pivot. Or a slightly rounded bottom with a 24 inch diameter, or better, curve section. A larger foot print would also help with traction and stability and not sinking into softer soil. Maybe carve out a foot and use another pair of shoes or boots on the bottom?
I wasn't going to get that in-depth in the build Thomas but these are all great suggestions for someone who might want to carry this one a little further. Thanks for chiming in with the ideas.
Yeah, that was the idea. Feeding the enhanced version for anyone looking to build some. Thanks again for sharing the idea and the pointers for a stable platform to stand on. I saw in another comment that you have a video of the costume, I'll be checking that out.
Great vid and tempted to make those for my little fella next Halloween. But I’ll definitely have to safety check em for a few hours. Just curious. What was the costume?
It was an 8' high grim reaper costume. I even did the sewing of the robe. There is a quick video on the channel's Facebook page and you can see that here. facebook.com/kennyearrings1/videos/2012813792271009/ Glad that you enjoyed the show. Thanks for tuning in.
'And there you have it' pointing to nothing?? What happened to the little picture at the end, after your famous announcement? I think you had your head up in the clouds too long ha ha ha. Seriously though so that's how those were made, very nicely done. The simple things in life are always the best, well done my friend and it looks like you mastered walking in them as well judging by the Happy Dance at the end. Barry (ENG)
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Well that's a first on the show. So busy editing that I missed the final photo. That's hilarious and you're probably right about the head in the clouds. Lack of oxygen clouded my judgement for sure. ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for tuning in Barry.
So am I!!! Nothing worse than screwing one foot to the floor and then walking around in circles for the rest of the day. Makes me dizzy. ha ha ha ha ha
Hi Kenny: I can't believe you never built youself a pair of stilts as a kid. The ones we built came up high enough to grab on with our hands. They were more like walking sticks on steroids. Chuck
We were too busy making go-carts and jumping our bicycles over things that should have never been jumped. There were plenty of ways to hurt ourselves as kids and stilts just never came into he picture. LOL. Thanks for tuning in Chuck.
It shows that you enjoy having a little fun.....either that or you were hoping that I would fall a break my neck in which case you have issues but we won't get into that. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for tuning in to the show,.
You can see a short video of me in the costume on the channel's Facebook page. Here's the link to the video. facebook.com/kennyearrings1/videos/2012813792271009/

Thanks Tomas. I'm glad that you like the show. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave me a comment.
thank you so much this helps a lot :) thinking of creating a stilt creature for a halloween contest hahaha
You're very welcome. Good luck with the contest. Thank you for tuning in to the show.

Yes, the link for the video is below in the comments. I should probably put it into the description of the video as well,
Only thing that could have improved that costume would be skeletal feet on the bottom. Looked great, and great ambulation.
Thanks. I'm considering the skeleton feet for next year as well as a chest plate rib cage.
a tip is to put the list of things you need in the description, it helps alot

Kenny, you're killing me. LOL. Hope you have good medical insurance. Good video.
I live in Canada..........medical is free. BRING ON THE HIGHER STILTS!!!!! Thanks for tuning in.
I️ laughed out loud picturing you on your stilts with a hockey helmet on!!!
If you want a laugh, I hope you tuned in to the very end of the show.....the laughs are at the end.
kennyearrings1 Of course i did. You got pretty good on those things!

Wow, I️ am so relieved that you took your feet out of your shoes, before screwing them down!!! 🙃

Well...not sure what to say. I enjoyed watching this...what does that say about me? 🤪
Oh my.
It shows that you enjoy having a little fun.....either that or you were hoping that I would fall a break my neck in which case you have issues but we won't get into that. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for tuning in to the show,.
Wow you picked up using those quickly. Be careful mate.
I'm as careful as I can be Robert. They were a huge hit on Halloween night and it made the costume that much better.
Cool are you going to show us some pictures of the outfit :)
You can see a short video of me in the costume on the channel's Facebook page. Here's the link to the video. facebook.com/kennyearrings1/videos/2012813792271009/
I see some broken bones in your future Ken. LOL Good luck!! I think I'll stay away from this project.
Hopefully they will only be a few bones Dale. We have free medical here in Canada so I can afford to break a few. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
