I think Alice does have some characterization in the movie. She’s mischievous, imaginative and am I the only one that thought she was a little bit mad herself? Like as soon as she falls down into the entrance, she just immediately goes with it without panicking or anything
To be fair, the book is more "My sister's book is really boring because it has no pictures and conversations, and I'm bored because....HEY LOOK!! A BUNNY!!!!"
Love this movie to death! You honestly have no idea how excited and happy I was when I heard that you were going to review Alice In Wonderland! And I hope you keep reviving classic Disney animated films this year!
Harry Thomas Pictures Who DOESN'T agree? I think even Tim Burton himself could still make a better one. He wasn't the screenwriter on the movie, and that's where most of the problems stem from. Edit: I found people who don't agree. Well, I liked The Lovely Bones, so who am I to judge?
Harry Thomas Pictures I agree, as the animated movie works so much better. I totally enjoy the unconventional story and how it has themes of being in another world, and being careful what you wish for. The only major problem I have with it is that the ending is too abrupt.
Alice In Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies and Alice is one of my favorite Disney characters. Kathryn Beaumont does a great job voicing her and bringing her to life. The movie also lead me to read the book which I enjoyed even though it's been years since I read it.
ah ok, btw why I think Wizards would be better than Fievel goes west is because fievel has a couple 4s while Wizards' lowest numbers where 4 and 6 and having better animation wouldn't count as how good a movie could be, while Titan AE would be better than A Liar's Biography because, sure, they're so close, it's better to have a stronger story than stronger characters
I just can't wait to see your upcoming next classic review Pokemon the First Movie! The first time you are going to review Pokemon, my most favorite beloved animated series I love as a kid in my childhood. Thank you so much!
Ah yes, one of my all-time favorite Disney films, as well as one of my all-time favorite films in general. Much like with The Phantom Tollbooth, this film's a VA Smorgasbord of who's-who, with talents like Kathryn Beaumont, Bill Thompson, J. Pat O'Malley, Sterling Holloway, Jerry Collonna, Ed Wynn and many others providing the film with hilarious dialogue and memorable bits for the feature. Sure, it's kind of a shame that Disney couldn't go all-the-way with this movie, but they openly admitted to this being a "Running Out of Time Before the Deadline" problem and less a "We Don't Care About the Film" problem like with certain other Alice in Wonderland films (cough, the Live Action Ones, cough). And for what we got, I would definitely give this a seal of approval!
Kieran Stark Dafuq? I admit that the Pokémon anime isn’t Avatar: The Last Airbender or anything when it comes to its writing and characters, but it isn’t bad enough to warrant a 5/10. At most I’d say a 6 or 7. Especially since the story is actually quite good, being that Mewtwo is a pretty complex villain with a sympathetic backstory. He wants to wipe out the world not just ‘cause he’s the strongest Pokémon, but because he was seen as nothing but a weapon and experiment for humans to use. And so he’s essentially doing what he was made for-just against humans rather than for them.
Kieran Stark I know that, I’m just stating that the overall film isn’t that bad, so it wouldn’t make sense as to why Animat would give it such a low rating, even if his feelings were mixed. At least from the perspective of a Pokémon fan. But who knows, we’ll just have to wait and see. And I consider a 5/10 to be mediocre, or not something that would be worth my time (which’s how I feel about some of the later Pokémon films.)
Kieran Stark Well scores are subjective as all hell in the first place, so it really depends on who you ask. For me, a 5/10 is mediocre, a 6/10 is okay and anything above that is good, while anything below a 5 is bad. I don’t really know that many critics out there who’d give a 6/10 to something that they consider “good,” but that’s just me. Which’s why, as a Pokémon fan that doesn’t consider the movie to be “not good” enough to warrant a 5/10, I find it baffling that AniMat would give it one. But this’s pure speculation, so as I said, we’ll just have to wait and see. And I haven’t watched Nostalgia Critic’s review on Pokémon: The First Movie, but from the looks of it I probably shouldn’t, since I’d just be filled with salt. I’m actually pretty sure he said that Avatar was great though, since I watched his Top Ten Worst Avatar Episodes list a while back, and I remember him saying something along the lines of “these’re still episodes from an amazing show, so don’t consider them the worst, but...the ‘least best.’”
I would have loved to see the animat seal of approval for this one.. it's a fun and surreal masterpiece above it's time. Surrealism is common now in animation and honestly, I believe this movie set inspiration for many of that kind.
Considering that this movie came out over four decades before I was born, I find it surreal to admit that this movie is a nostalgic treasure of mine. Even to this day, I look back on this wonderful piece of animation fondly, regarding it as one of the best Disney animated films to exist.
It is so surreal comparing the 1939 draft to the final film. The 1939 draft in comparison is disturbing as hell by Disney standards,it makes me wonder if there’s a alternative universe where that’s the film we got.
I'm sad the mock turtle never made it into the film. I did a play of Alice in Wonderland twice in high school, and one of those times I was cast as the Mock Turtle, and I loved playing him.
JamesTheBrony/JTB I just hope he doesn't give a negative review since he's a Pokemon fan. All though he said in the Yo-Kai Watch movie review that Pokemon's first movie did a good job on introducing people to the series, so he might like it.
Not really among my list of all time Disney faves, but still one I consider a Disney classic. I especially love the Golden Afternoon song. And it looks like the first Pokemon movie is coming next. Really curious to see how that review goes.
Alice is cute and beautiful and graceful as a swan (her spirit animal). her dress is so beautiful. When it puffs up as a parachute, it’s looks like she have wings and she’ll float down gracefully like a swan
Grant Awa He doesn’t like Pokémon in general. Well in real life, he is actually indifferent with it. Speaking of NC. Have you been catching up to the recent controversy regarding Channel Awesome?
First let me say that this is my favorite adaptation of Lewis Caroll's story. I have actually read the book from start to finish twice, and all I can say is it was much easier to follow the story in animation than anything else. I also liked hearing actual child Kathryn Beamont as the voice of Alice. Especially since she would become the voice of Wnedy in Peter Pan. Speaking of the voices, THAT is my favorite part of this movie; there are so many voices that I'd might as well expect in a Disney movie that all I can do is try to remember the other Disney movies they have been in. That is very interesting, and it's something to admire. So what I like about Disney's Alice in Wonderland is the voices and how it helped me understand the books better. But if I need to complain about something, let's go back to what Animat said about there being NO STORY. As someone who takes story seriously, it's hard for me to take that the most this movie has is Alice following the White Rabbit. Some parts of the project I do like, especially the parts with the Cheshire Cat, and Tweedledee and Tweedledum, but there are also parts that I hate, ncluding the Queen of Hearts being absolutely cruel. And while I do like Alice's child voice, the beginning made her look pretty spoiled. There are moments when I do want to root for her, especially to escape the Queen of Hearts, but there are also times when I don't like her behavior. So while I do respect this movie as the BETTER retelling of Lewis Caroll's story, I cannot put it among my favorite Disney movies.
Wow, I do wonder what the next review is gonna be.... Nobody in there right mind knows the music in the background is... I mean... It's obviously Digimon.
I thought that the Live Action/Animated movie was shelved because Paramount was doing something similar at the time? They talked about that on the Snow White Platinum Edition DVD, I believe.
I wonder why Alice in Wonderland never got a direct to video sequel along with Dumbo Pinocchio Robin hood great mouse detective the aristocats the sword in the Stone sleeping beauty and snow white and the seven dwarfs
Some of them didn't need sequels. This one could probably have done it better because it doesn't stick to a traditional story as much. I can't see a Dumbo 2, though. What was there left for him to do? Also, I feel like it could fall into the same trap as Lady and the Tramp 2 and make the human characters too evil.
17:29 That would be an interesting idea for Epic Mickey 3. Mickey finds a new section of the wasteland for the Of characters that were scrapped from Disney movies.
I loved how these Disney classics utilized voice actors, or character actors with distinctive voices. They all seemed perfect for these parts. Robin Williams in "Aladdin" changed all of that. Suddenly, many animated features now wanted big name stars to voice the characters, and while it held a marque value, the sound was just not the same.
I had great memories watching this in my past, in fact I consider it my all time favorite Disney Movie, not one of them, I mean my number 1, top favorite
I wonder if you going to finish reviewing the Disney rennaseince movies like the little mermaid 1989 beauty and the beast 1991 Aladdin 1992 The Lion king 1994 Mulan 1998 and Tarzan 1999
I felt weird unexplainable feelings throughout this movie, but I especially got these unexplainable feelings in the end of the movie, when she was crying in the dark forest.
Dumbo 2 Was announce and planned in 2002 it Was involving thimoty Dumbo meeting baby animals that got Lost in new York city but the sequel Was cancelled by John lasseter
Great review, like, you really give detail about every aspect of the movie instead of just mentioning many facts with little connection and explanation. Improoving I see. I just think that the animation shouldn't be as important as the others
I enjoyed the Original Movie, but I honestly was more of a fan of the Live Action Alice in Wonderland show that aired on The Disney Channel called "Adventures in Wonderland". I enjoyed the movie, but I was never the biggest fan of surrealism and the characters weren't really that nice.
Curious if he’ll review the American version or Japanese version of Pokémon the First Movie given some of the key differences between them most notably Meetoos dream sequence.
I knew that Pokemon: the first movie is going to be next! btw I love the this version of Alice in Wonderland back when i was just a kid and i still love it to this very day!
We were somewhere around Tugley Woods on the edge of Wonderland when the cake began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge borogoves, all swooping and screeching and diving around the Dodo, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to the Caucus Race.”
It came famous when it Was released and had merchandisisse appearances in live shows like Disney on ice Disney parks and most several video games and tv shows
Interesting thing about this movie is that it uses a lot of dark backgrounds while Alice is in wonderland, which gives it an ominous fantasy feel, which is fitting because its in a world deep down a rabbit hole. Also, unlike other adaptions, this one actually gives the illusion that it was all just a dream, made prominent that it never got a sequel, even though there was in fact a second book. It may be it's own thing, but it's definitely something a lot of movie makers, especially Disney nowadays in the case of the Tim Burton reboot should learn from when making adaptions!
My favorite next to peter pan and dumbo. Probably explaining my tolkien, gothic, fairytale fantasy inspirations. I mean I have more flat notes and quills than a raven and a writing desk. Minus the desk hinges squawking...
Well Pinocchio 2 Was supposed to be released the sequel Wil happen 10 after the events of the first movie but it Was cancelled by Pixar director John lasseter
The aristocats 2 Was announce and plamned in 2007 involving duchess Marie tolousse and Berlioz tried to stop a Jewel thief but the sequel Was cancelled by John lasseter
Awh,. Alice..! In Wonderland! Watching it tonight after Cinderella. Awh,. Say what you want about Kathyrn Beaumont and her movie('s) but she was/is still such a beautiful child. Also a Princess to me. Also I remember those clips. Yay!!!!!!!!!! Masterpiece.
I was never a huge fan of this movie. I guess because I'm more into movies with a coherent storyline. But, I do appreciate what Disney did with this. It's definitely not your typical Disney movie. One thing I really do like about it, though, is Mary Blair's art style. It's so colorful, and perfectly represents the crazy world of Wonderland. Though, while I may not be a big fan of this movie, I'll take this over the shitty live action ones any day.

Yay, Animat is finally reviewing a Pokémon movie 😆! I wish it was Pokémon the Movie I Choose You, since it’s my favorite Pokémon movie, and I’m curious about his thoughts on it. Maybe I should request that review 🤔. But for now, I’m still excited for his first Pokémon review 😆😆😆

I think Alice does have some characterization in the movie. She’s mischievous, imaginative and am I the only one that thought she was a little bit mad herself? Like as soon as she falls down into the entrance, she just immediately goes with it without panicking or anything

I remember the song when Alice lost a trail in the woods. It made me really sad and wanting to give her a hug :,(

Who agree’s this version is superior to the Tim Burton one?
I do, wholeheartedly
Harry Thomas Pictures Who DOESN'T agree? I think even Tim Burton himself could still make a better one. He wasn't the screenwriter on the movie, and that's where most of the problems stem from.

Oh, I love this movie! I always figured if there was a story, it was Alice realizing a Wonderland would actually be terrifying.
m3rrys0ngstr3ss Same. That's actually the basis for a relatively common comparison with Coraline.
ajmrowland Wonderland is like the Joker. It can be silly and fun or....it can be like McGees Alice.

Josh Hales Or, as the real titles are displayed on screen "Pikachu's Vacation" (short) & "Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back" (movie).

An 8.5/10? That is honestly a first from these reviews.
E1ite Yoshi what about winnie the pooh with 7.5/10
Am I the only one that noticed that all of the rating with point five are musicals?
Considering that this movie came out over four decades before I was born, I find it surreal to admit that this movie is a nostalgic treasure of mine. Even to this day, I look back on this wonderful piece of animation fondly, regarding it as one of the best Disney animated films to exist.

Like the Cat looks like it come out of a horror film , Alice was freakin put in a guillotine , Mad Hatter and March Hare are horrendous

I’m so glad you finally reviewed this movie! Its one of my FAVORITE Disney films...
Well I'm not surprised Pokémon: The First Movie is next to be reviewed.. The music kind of gave the game away.
JamesTheBrony/JTB I just hope he doesn't give a negative review since he's a Pokemon fan. All though he said in the Yo-Kai Watch movie review that Pokemon's first movie did a good job on introducing people to the series, so he might like it.
We'll see soon enough.
Not really among my list of all time Disney faves, but still one I consider a Disney classic. I especially love the Golden Afternoon song.
And it looks like the first Pokemon movie is coming next. Really curious to see how that review goes.
Excellent review of a childhood favorite that I've loved and I'm really excited for his thoughts on Pokemon: The First Movie will be.
Alice is cute and beautiful and graceful as a swan (her spirit animal). her dress is so beautiful. When it puffs up as a parachute, it’s looks like she have wings and she’ll float down gracefully like a swan
The animation hat should be renamed the ani-hat.
Why are you telling me this?
I didn't say anything is unfair. I was making a pun.

Good review of this Disney classic! I remember being pretty obsessed with this movie back in 2014 and even having a crush on Alice. :)

One of my favorite Disney movies ever
I was hoping that you will pick up an animated form the animation hat that I wanted you to review. That made my day. Thank you so much.

Well, now I can scratch it form my list.
I am that my favorite love great Disney classic alice in wonderland ever since my our childhoods old school my opinion AniMat.
I bet Disney can have pottenciall ideas for a possible sequel to this movie
I wonder why Alice in Wonderland never got a direct to video sequel along with Dumbo Pinocchio Robin hood great mouse detective the aristocats the sword in the Stone sleeping beauty and snow white and the seven dwarfs
Melisa Cangele I didn’t even know Pinnochio got a sequel...go figure.
Crono Sapien She means that it doesn't have one like those other movies
Dominic Caruso Ah, okay. I guess the wording confused me, then.

Tadicuslegion78 Laaaaaammmmmeeee
It came famous when it Was released and had merchandisisse appearances in live shows like Disney on ice Disney parks and most several video games and tv shows
The Lion king 1994 story : 10/10 Animation: 10/10 characters: 10/10 songs: 10/10 animat seal of approval
Alice sounds like Wendy from Peter Pan
Well Pinocchio 2 Was supposed to be released the sequel Wil happen 10 after the events of the first movie but it Was cancelled by Pixar director John lasseter
Everyone's mad here
ScotsWizard Stop with that dumb cliché already you freak
Kayal Mica what cliche?
Im Mad Too .
@@beboprocksteadyrulez1099 The whole "Everyone's mad here". Though that being said, Kayal Mica's freak comment was uncalled.
Animat seal of approval
Surprised you didn't give the film your seal of approval...
Same.
Happy 70th anniversary “Alice in Wonderland”
71 years old now.
This animated classic is a supreme masterpiece compared to the crappy live action reboots. 😝 and is...is that....POKEMON?! YAAAASSSS!
This movie needs more fountains, and fountains, and more fountains.
My all-time favorite Disney film.
Hey animat can you review The Little mermaid 1989 next please
Pretty great job👍😃 AniMat!!!
I loved both movies... though I wish ... the old one had a longer run time
I was never a huge fan of this movie.
