Hi Brianna Dacosta, you can use blends like these for tons of polymer clay projects, including making canes. If you look through my tutorial playlist, you will see several examples of tutorials where I use a Teardrop Blend in them. ua-cam.com/users/PolymerClayTutorvideos?shelf_id=6&sort=dd&tag_id=UCHnfmkZSQzXUcy71-VPtMlQ.3.polymer-clay-tutorials&view=46

Thank you Cindy. I have been tutorializing my learning over a couple months and I love your videos.
I have gotten frustrated with blends and when you showed how you tuck in the ends, that made a lot of sense.
Thanks for helping us all learn...You are so delightful to watch and I love your bubbly personality.
Keep up the great work... those of us that watch you really appreciate you.

No problem, Cindy... its the truth. Sometimes, we never know when a "sweet answer" turns a heart. Your joy comes through in the way you talk to us.

I just discovered today that if I steam the clay over a pot of boiling water it softens quickly and I just dry the moisture off of the clay piece. It works really well to soften a large piece of clay.

Have read your emails for MANY years now, but NEVER caught a video until tonite. THANK YOU soooo very much for this! I don't have a p.m. but DO have a rod so will now be practicing making these. I'm just THRILLED to finally be able to make this look! Cheers, and thanks for the many lessons over the years. :) ~JO

I don't understand, if you have been getting my emails for years, why have you not watched the videos? There has been hundreds of videos over the years. There is way more value in the videos than what is written in the newsletters. I feel bad that you have missed out all these years. Hopefully you will start watching the free videos now. There is a new one every week!

Oh Cindy,...MY BAD, I'm so sorry, you must think I'm simply Batty! :-/ I was in a hurry (as I write my notes 1st in Word then copy/paste to YT comments), ... & I apparently c/p'd the wrong edited paragraph without catching it!
My comment SHOULD have read: "I've never caught a video ABOUT SKINNER BLENDS until tonite."
(Why? It's something I've always Meant to go back and watch because it interests me, but frankly I felt Very Intimidated because those pieces in that style always look sooo complicated, so I'd tell myself to go back later & watch,... life would get busy, blah blah blah...)
Now that I've seen this one though I understand it's not Nearly as complex as I'd imagined so I will go back and track those ones down! :)

Ohhh... that makes more sense! :) I am glad you have gotten over your fear of techniques that you thought were too hard. Everything I teach is doable. Some may need more practice than others, but you should never be intimidated by polymer clay... it is just a hunk of plastic after all!

im new to polymer clay also and the only things i have brought are some blades and varnish, any kind works you dont need sculpy brands. i use skewers, stamps, spoon and cutlery handles with patterns anything with texture. i have a bottle as my rolling pin and pulled apert pens for small circles. just look round your house with clay in mind and im sure u will find some useful things. o also soda cans make cuff templates and bend and u can make cutters easy by cutting the cans into strips,fold/bend to the shapes u want and cellotape them down the join but take care when using them as sometimes they can cut. hope this helps and good luck with your clay journey.

I've been so obsessed with clay lately. First I made the homemade clay. I made a bowl changing the colour with acrylic paint before it dried. Turned out so so but you could tell it was cheap clay. I appreciated the DIY I watched to make it but that just got me more addicted. So I bought white DAS air dry clay. I made a witch mushroom house that has turned out more beautiful then I could of ever hoped. Again I appreciated the DIY. I wanted to try polymer clay. All these beautiful canes. I just want to play and create! But I was very worried not having a pasta machine. I've been trying to find one that doesn't cost a fortune but the cheapest one I can find is around $100. I can't justify that right now 😞 but I have a bunch of colours of the polymer clay and some necessary tools to start. I'm so grateful that someone like you has taken the time to teach us how to DIY without a pasta machine. You are a gem. Thank you SO much. Very much appreciated. I have subscribed and liked and turn the bell on. Create away girl. You have lots that love and appreciate you!

Thank you SO much for your videos, they are very clear and helpful! Also, you are the first person/tutorial I've seen that actually uses small amounts of clay rather than monster amounts. As a beginner, I appreciate this since I am not trying to mass produce humongous canes (especially when I'm not good enough to guarantee success yet, lol) and potentially waste a lot of clay making a bad item. I did a reasonable job on my first attempt making a teardrop rainbow blend :D

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  10 років тому

Thank you Connie Morrisroe for saying that! It has always been my thought that unless you are a professional selling your canes, it doesn't make sense to make large canes. If you do a poor job of making or reducing your cane and you have used a lot of clay making it, you may not feel confident enough to make another one. But if it is small, it doesn't matter if you make a mistake. Then when you are good at it, you may not want miles of the same design in the same color. Either way, smaller canes make a lot more sense for the average clayer!

Thank you for sharing at least I know what I was doing was on the ball. :-) I have the pasta machine and I love using it for doing my skinner blends but I have been cheating by rolling my blends and flattening them before putting into the machine back at number one and working my way down the numbers to 9 and then I roll it backup and start all over again I have found that it gives me as you say a faster mix but also I don't end up wasting some of the clay due to it stretching all out of shape in places. I found rolling it backup into a roll and tucking in the ends brings it all back square and I have ended up with a far better blend doing this :-)
I love watching your little videos and when I finally can afford it I will be signing up so I can do some of your lessons special the one on the sweet peas :-) as I wanted to,learn this one so,I can adapt it to the Australian Sturt Desert Pea :-) which I know will make a stunning pair of earrings :-)
Thank you for all of you time that you do share for free :-) it really does help those of use who are really short on pennies :-)

Hello Tutor, your videos are great! learning a lot from you. I am using the same rolling pin and my clay ( Fimo soft ) is getting sticky and gets stuck over the rubber cutting sheet where i am working on. I am a very new learner to polymer clay. i dont think its too soft either, because its not getting stuck to my hand when i am making a ball. What am I doing wrong and how how to correct it ? i need ot make really thin sheets of various colour clay for miniatues and its getting stuck to the rubber sheet when it becomes moderately thin. What to do ?
The all purpose flour / placing a paper underneath will help ? Thank you so much :)

How thick should the clay be when you're finished blending it and are ready to start making a piece of jewelry, like a pendant and matching earrings? Thank you so much for making this video, I just recently started using polymer clay and resin. My son passed away in December and my granddaughters, my mom, and myself really want Pandora style beads, however I also want the pendant and earrings. Do you have any ideas on the best way to add a straight line around the bead, I've tried rolling the bead through a line of ashes, but it seems to roll the ashes out of the line and ends up covering the width of the bead, after baking it, and cooling I added the resin, by putting the bead on a tooth pick and rolling it through the resin that was in a 2 oz cup, then I left the toothpick resting on the cup to let it dry, which was a really bad idea because the resin actually puddled at the bottom pulling a lot of ashes with it. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I really enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing more. Thank you again, I apologize for changing the subject. Kim

I'm new to polymer clay. I've been trying to slice off layers of thicker clay to form uniform beads. I can't seem to slice without the entire piece of clay sliding on my sheet. Is there a tip or trick to keep the clay in position on the tray as you slice towards yourself?

thanks for sharing! It could be even a way to make a cane for example when you need to use small quantities of clay or for simple caning by hand when pasta-machine in busy with other projects!

How do you keep the end play of clay from ending up long and skinny instead of yours where’s it’s a similar size to what you started . I tucked the ends in each roll up. I did end up with a lovely blend either wat

Hi, I was wondering if you can give me some advice. I made a pendant using polymer clay, to match the colour of my skirt, only to discover, after I had baked it, the colour changed and didn't match, so can you tell me please, did I do something wrong?, or does it depend on the brand of clay. as to whether it keeps its colour, after you bake it?

Hi Crafty Mints Good eye! The piece you saw was actually a sample heart from my Faux Batik Tutorial with a coating of Magic Glos UV Resin after it was baked. If you want to see more samples from that paid tutorial, watch this teaser: Polymer Clay Batik Technique (Intro)

I made my first skinner blend using a pasta machine. I kept increasing the setting and it blended nicely but was paper thin. What settings do you use for your blends? Thank you

Hi Cindy, i love your channel and it has been helpful for me, i'd like to ask you, if i have a wooden roller and i don't want the clay to stick to it as i'm rolling, can i maybe brush some glaze on it? Will it be smoother and won't stick? I'm using triple thick glaze.
    Thank you so much!

Hi Einav Galil thank you for your comment. I don't think that glazing your roller will work very well. I think a glaze like Triple Thick will still stick to the clay and it might even flake off into your clay. Of course you could always test it, but it might not be worth it. Cornstarch on your roller, would probably work better, but you would find this type of roller will do a much better job for you: Essential Polymer Clay Tools - Acrylic Roller

Hi +PolymerClayTutor I am just wondering, is your clay naturally shiny like that or do u put something in it to make it shiny? My clay seems to be more a Matte sheen to it but maybe it is just my clay... If you do use something to treat it with to make it shiny what is it and where can I get it?
    Thx, Hollykatecharms

Love you videos. Is there a place that we could see you creations and do you sell them? Thank you.

Thank you venusiandesigns Right now I don't have a store set up to sell my work (have plans to, just too busy). If you watch the introductions videos to my paid tutorial series, you will see samples of my creations. You can also see some of my stuff on Pinterest www.pinterest.com/pctutor/ and Facebook facebook.com/polymerclay/photos_stream but the galleries are incomplete just due to time. But If you look through that stuff you'll get a pretty good idea. :)
