Thank you for taking the time to make these FREE videos to help us aspiring teachers pass the Praxis II. I really appreciate it. To address the snarky comments below about typos and human error in the video, specifically the error stating the conscription in 1963 instead of 1863: Come on people! We are intelligent enough to know she meant 1863, and she eventually correctly states it as such in the presentation. I would hope aspiring teachers could rise above making disparaging remarks to someone who has invested a lot of time to provide us with these lengthy and well presented reviews that are for our benefit, and free of charge at that. Just say thank you, excuse the human error, and the go on to take and pass your test. Then, pay it forward by helping out others who are studying to take the test to also become future educators. Teachers are supposed to be helpful and encouraging, not harsh and overly critical. Sheesh!

@@saintkaan8303 if you know history it's easy. This stuff didn't have a lot to do with the test. Only a bit. Be sure to know about native Americans. I passed

I'm using this video to study for the Praxis 5081. Though only about halfway thru, I have recommendations to correct some glaring issues (may add as I continue):
(1) Eliminate all usage of "indian" to refer to native Americans. Perhaps indigenous peoples?
(2) The sections on the Missouri Compromise and the overview of the Civil War are fraught with southern bias. Firstly, having unpaid labor would be beneficial to any industry, not exclusively farming; that argument used to justify the Enslavement Period is weak.
(3) Also, glossed over is the fact that the "possessions"-that the south is fighting for-are Enslaved African human beings...
In my coursework at Stockton University, a teacher education program that helps feed the #1 education system in the nation, we are taught "person-first" language that helps foster the empathy needed in our profession.

The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 2, 1776. It was printed/dated for July 4th. And not signed until August 2nd.

This is amazing! Thank you! Do you happen to know how the actual score is calculated? I need a 148 to pass in WV. I just took the practice exam without studying first and got 85 questions right out of 130.

Anyone pass only using this?
In the civil war overview: the south vs south overview, you have written the north conscripted starting in 1963, but you also said 1863.
You can see how easy it is to make a typo. Look at your comment: the "south vs south" :-)
all this studying for probably none of it to be on the test and they wonder why theres a shortage of teachers

If you study this information, the middle and elementary school versions are essentially the same, albeit less detailed.
It's amazing how Eurocentric this is. Probably the Praxis is too. There was no mention of American Indians in Columbus' "discovery of America." No mention of Palestinians in the creation of Israel in Palestine. I hope as future Social Studies teachers, we all endeavor to not just help kids learn about other cultures from a European perspective, but help kids actually understand the perspectives of other cultures.
Especially starting off with Greek civilization...smh
The test shouldn't reflect your curriculum. Eurocentric history is still important history. Teach what you think is important. It's a free country. If you don''t think so. Teach about that.
The portions on the MO Compromise and the civil war overview are also problematic....
They start the video off by romanticizing the Athenian Democracy. I’m not surprised there are more problems throughout it.
I wish all of you who complain about how Eurocentric this presentation is. Would also go to China and demand they teach about American History and European history in their Middle school curriculums. What's amazing to me is hiw much hatred you have fir Europeans and their history.
The 13th amendment was passed during the Civil War, not afterward.
Not so, President Lincoln signed it in 1863, but it was ratified just after the war in 1865.

As much as the video is helpful, it is also FRUSTRATION and borderline infuriating to me...
I appreciate the video to study for my praxis BUT I wish the language would be different in it. Why are we still refering to the Missouri comprimise as a solution? why are we still learning people "discovered" America? The language is important--please do not teach lies.
My frustration lies within the federal government for not changing SS curriculum state wide.... but still, how we teach history matters!! The language is everything. Egyptians didn't have workers--they had SLAVES. like what am I listening to...
Egyptians actually did not have slaves. Their pyramid builders were well paid and compensated for their labor. But yeah I agree that the language about American history in particular is frustrating.
