MeFOTO GlobeTrotter Air Tripod Review-New Lighter Tripods!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2016
- I review a new line of tripod from MeFOTO and its the AIR tripod. I go hands on with the MeFOTO GlobeTrotter Air Tripod and show you the major differences between this new set compared to the original versions. Now not much has changed but two main aspects have. These MeFOTO Air Tripods are now easily lighter and have a HyperLock technology for extended and compressing the legs. With one simple twist to the left or right, locks or unlocks all of the sections of legs on the tripod. Pretty cool. Note, I was not paid or sponsored in this video. All thoughts are my own.

Great just what I am looking for. You are costing me a bomb. Thanks for the upload Eric
awesome and your welcome and sorry lol
Thanks for the video!!
I believe the top bar thing comes off so you can use it as a monopod like the older model. The bluetooth remote is there so it can be used as a selfie stick.
can you interchange the head and the hook at the bottom of the center column?
Nice content dude, keep it up!
No mention of the selfie stick extension though. I think you can twist the head to extend the centre column just like the legs and remove it altogether. Mind confirming this? Also, are you able to lock the legs at any length or is it only fully collapsed/extended?
You and I have the exact same MeFOTO Roadtrip. I got white and black because it's very Stormtrooper-esque. Love it.
hey good reason to get the color lol, I do really like their tripods though
Like my infamous purple one! lol
Is it possible to uninstall the entire head?
I have the negotiations travel tripod and I want to change to a video fluid head. What do you suggest?
not familiar with that one, but you may not be able to. Most of these travel portable ones come with an attached head.
do the legs lock at shorter distances instead of extending them out all the way?
yup! you can control and set them at any point.
Thanks for the review. Is it true that the head is fixed, so not interchangeable with other ball heads?
Good to know! Spec sheet on Mefoto's website says the head mount is fixed for all three Air tripods, so I wonder if they made a mistake. Does it have a standard 3/8" thread?
I emailed MeFOTO, and they told me that the heads are actually fixed. I wonder if you just got a pre-production model with a removable head? Here's what they said in the email:
These tripods are designed to fold up tightly, so their heads all have a narrow profile to allow the legs to get as tight as possible. The thought was that the customer for this style of tripod would not be the type to be switching heads.
Do the legs on the air only have two anchor points? extended or collapsed? with the twist lock, it doesn't seem like they can be stopped midway?
yup, you can stop them at any point!
Excellent Eric, I didn't order this one, but got a blue older model for $88 and no shipping from Amazon (no prime though, 3rd party and won't be here til Oct 25th to 27th)
thanks Kevin, you will really enjoy it! So portable!!
*****
Well that is what I am counting on....my other tripods are kinda bulky !
is this the one you can extend the panning head/column?
yes you can!
Hey bud, quick question, once the tripod is setup, does it have a hook at the bottom where I can hang something? E..g. extra batteries should I do long time lapse and offer a bit more stability.
Great question, if you go to around 2:14 in the video you will see it does have a bottom hook! You just pull down and its there.
Eric Rossi Thnx for reply mate. Yea I thought I saw it but neither the site or any other review clearly shows this so I thought I would rather ask.

glad I could help! Thats a key feature for how I like to shoot as well
Hey Eric do you know if peakdesign capture plate fits on the tripod?
I tried it out on mine and no. It's got its down unique design to mainly work with Peak's gear.
Alrigth thank you :)
I have the mephoto travel tripod what kind of fluid video head can I buy for it?
sadly none, they arent removable. If you want a portable video setup, checkout the Manfrotto Beefree tripods
Nice review, but I think I'll stay with my original GlobeTrotter aluminum tripod...I feel that the original version is more stable, and for a landscape photographer, I'm looking for stability, not "light weight". Also, you showed the leg extension at full height. Does it also extend to shorter heights? Plus, the fact that they market it with a "selfie" phone bracket tells me it's more for a casual amateur with minimal gear, rather than for serious work where image sharpness and detail are of paramount importance.
I think you make a great point, while I do feel Mefoto tried to make something a bit lighter and more portable. But yeah, I like the original ones better!
how thin is the thinest segment?
thin
Older video, but hoping you can give some incite on this tripod.
Looking to use it with a D500 + Battery Grip + iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ + Sigma 150-600 C. Roughly 16lbs.
Would this be an ideal tripod for this? I know its under the total weight of 26lbs, but its not a very compact or cheap thing to stick on top of a tripod.
Also, would the legs fold and lock at roughly 90* from the center column to use it as a stand in macro tripod?
I have the Sigma 105 macro so it doesn't need fold down and to be right up against the subject.
With this version, I wouldnt trust it. A bit of a heavy lens for the 150-600 you'd get some wobble. This is more for the travel, on the go photographer.
@@Eric_Rossi thanks for the response!
Do you have any suggestions for my situation, $500 or less?
There's so many tripods out there to sift through.
what kind of tripod head do you prefer, the normal ball heads or something with like a pistol grip?
@@Eric_Rossi with a big lens, I'd think a ball head would be more functional and universal.
Check this one out: Manfrotto MK055XPRO3-BHQ2 with XPRO Ball Head
Hey Eric - Do you happen know the weight of the Globetrotter Air?
Yup covered in the video! Hope it helps!
Sorry about that! Had to rewatch to catch that you said it's "about 3lbs". I have the Globtrotter Carbon Fibre and it's 3.7lbs so was curious if the new version was lighter. As light as mine is, it would be great to shave off a bit more weight, however it sounds like the Globtrotter Air is not as robust, nor can hold as much weight as the model I own. Thanks for your review!
DV
nothing to be sorry for!
Recommend for Nikon D850 with 24-70 lens ?
I would look into the Roadtrip version, but yes! I use it with the 1dx mark ii and 24-70
Hi vikk. IMHO, I'd look at the original GlobeTrotter Aluminum version...I think it's much more solid, stable, and would easily hold your nice kit.
What's the retail cost ?
$225 probally $300 Canadian
yeah thats what its looking like
I love the leg lock design. Hugely simplifies an overly burdensome system.
Its pretty good honestly, I personally like the twist locks on each section though.
Hmm I like that one.. I have the backpacker for traveling. But its not super sturdy. Plus I hate having to unscrew 15 segments to extend it. The new bag is thinner. But I feel they likely went that route really to just save on weight. When you travel by air a lot, every little bit of weight adds up.. Great review BTW..

thanks man very much appreciated. See the twist sections I actually really like lol, but I can see the big appeal to this hyperlock system, more simplified.
