Thank you for this. I've got a dream router and a 6 Pro is a small house but annoyingly parts of my office are dead zones. I want one of these to place in the room nextdoor that gets great WiFi to serve the office as no scope for wiring another AP easily.
Nice test, but could you do it again using iPerf so that you’re actually measuring the network speed that they are capable of? And with a wired connection to both devices. That way the only variable is the distance between them, and the speed of your Internet connection doesn’t affect the results. It would be nice to know if meshing these can outperform Powerline adapters.
Thanks for doing this test. I have a mesh system with a UDM and a BeaconHD. The BeaconHD has always shown as too far away in the Network app (-87 or so). I bought an Express to bridge the gap between the UDM and the BeaconHD. Now all access points are reading -55 go -60db. UDM to Express to BeaconHD. Don’t know if this really helped anything other than the db signal strength.
I really think that anytime you can get your signal strength up, you will have a better overall experience. You are adding an extra "hop" for the devices connected to the beacon, but they should be able to communicate better I would think. You will have to report back and share your experience after the change!
I am thinking of getting this for a rental property that is just a condo ~800 sq ft, so I can provide basic internet to my tenants, and provide connectivity to water leak sensors and smart lock, I am hoping to get that remote admin ability and seems to be right for managing a network and have some wifi-AP capabilities thank you for the video, not sure if it's worth it from your point of view, but i think there's a gap in these networking videos to help average person with maybe setting up network for a rental, or setting up network for your parents or non-IT saavy family/friend members - your newbie series is great as I am watching those as I am prepping to set up my own home, but I dont think other scenarios need the same firepower, and kinda find a place for why/when to use the Lite and Express products
I haven't done any more speed tests, but I did take the units from this video up to my neighbors house for him to use... They are currently hardwired together using a moca adapter and have been performing well. Honestly though, I have noticed that the interface loads very slow and I think that is because there isn't much horsepower under the hood. Overall, these are great for very simple setups, but if you plan on actively configuring things and using some of the rich features of Unifi, they are underpowered in my opinion... Not sure if that helps or not.
Have you tried these as APs? I have one and am really impressed, but I also have a Google WiFi system with each AP wired in. I'm considering replacing the GW points with a couple more of these UniFi Express devices and wiring them into the existing ports
As a hard wired solution, I really like these and would definitely replace GW points with them. Using them as a wireless mesh system, I think they lack a little bit and need to be triband to get better wireless performance between the WiFi points.
Would two or three of these connected to the main express be considered okay for a small to medium sized house as a mesh system? I am unable to run Ethernet cables anywhere.
They could be, yes. However, with them being dual band, and having limited hardware onboard, your speeds might not be super awesome. What internet speed do you currently have?
I have bought a Udm wall by spending some 1200 bucks. Also 2 unify accespoint 6e enterprise version one unify express, after a massive wifi hacking by some unknown remote actions. originally the ISP gave their own modem (Speedprt pro with hybrid option from telekom). But then I want to use only Udm wall as main modem and router. I plugged in the DSL cable to Udm wall, but nothing is being recognised...I am not a professional, but I really want this to work and have a secure connection.pleae help..where am I doing wrong..I want to give up the ISP modem
Do you think you would’ve gotten better results on 2,4 ghz setup? Your initial internet speed isn’t faster enough to out pace the 2.4 Wi-Fi and it would’ve been a stronger signal
I agree.. That is one of the problems. And the testing I was doing was just 1 device connected... if you had a lot of devices, the results would be slower! Thanks for weighing in!

You bet. I redid the video using iPerf and will be posting that in the next few days. Thanks for watching.
Have 2 ux in mesh and love the ecosystem and gui. Can wait for your mesh test👍🏼
I did release that. It’s in my list of videos.

You're right. I will do a new test using iPerf. I appreciate the suggestion. I will redo the video using those methods...
@@ethernetblueprint looking forward to it.
No matter how many speed tests you do, somebody will ask for one more…
Haha. You are prob right.
Could you do a wired test on the meshed unit (wired device plugged into the meshed wireless unit)?
You bet. I will make that happen.
use channel 80 , set max transmit power to all express, doing this i was able to have 780mbits in mesh
Decent tip. For low interference environments this could help. Yes.

These are great for smaller setups like that. I honestly think you’d be happy with it.
Thx for this test
You bet. Wish it yielded faster results.
Have you tested speeds after increasing the transmit speeds devices? You can tweak the settings to maximize performance.

You're welcome!
Great review. Please post more reviews and tests like this.
^1st! 😂
More coming very soon!

@@ethernetblueprint thank you. I think I was going this direction already but you probably just sealed it for me 👍
Can these be daisy chained? Great video and tests!
I’m not 100% sure but I’m guessing they can. I’ll have to get my hands on a 3rd and find out.
Pretty sure UniFi APs don't restrict the meshing.

They could be, yes. However, with them being dual band, and having limited hardware onboard, your speeds might not be super awesome. What internet speed do you currently have?
Also, keep in mind that the Express can only manage 4 additional unifi devices so be careful if you need additional devices like a switch...

Let’s take this offline. Email me at tim@ethernetblueprint.com and I’ll see if I can help.
Que versión es? Lite???
I’m not 100% sure what you’re asking. Do you mean what code version I was running?

I’m going to be doing more tests. I can test that as well.
Good information and data, but was very slow talking. I basically played your video at 1.5x speed and that was about right.
I'm long winded... sounds like a good workaround! HAHA
I think the big issue is its only 2x2, most other UniFi AP are 4x4
I agree.. That is one of the problems. And the testing I was doing was just 1 device connected... if you had a lot of devices, the results would be slower! Thanks for weighing in!
They ruined that with the new U7 Pro being only 2x2 on all bands compared to 4x4 on 5GHz on the U6 Pro.
