ellie lost everything in the end she lost joel,jessie her girlfriend her kid and because of that fight with abby she lost her fingers making her unable to play the guitar like legit why why would you do this naughty dog why
Yeah they basically said fuck Ellie and all us Part 1 fans. Ellie loses everything and Abby gets to float off into the sunset.
SMD2x Naughty Dogs message can be summed up in one Doctor Who quote “Violence doesn’t end Violence, it extends it” and it takes that one person to make that one decision to stop the violence by just ending it. Ellie losing everything was due to the fact she wouldn’t let it go, actions, consequences and more consequences if you keep up with those actions. But regardless, bit shitty innit.

That doesn't apply to this game. Abby gets to live happily ever after. Where are the repercussions for her getting revenge? Ellie should have killed her, then the scene with her being unable to play guitar would have made more sense.
@@Rocket1377 Abby lost Owen, Mel, Manny, Nora, basically everyone she cared about because she killed Joel, Abby has to live with that now. All she has left is Lev and who knows if the Fireflies will still be there by the time she reaches them? Her father is still dead and she has nobody else to turn to now because of her revenge. Also think about this: If Ellie had killed Abby then what about Lev? He would be left completely alone and filled with the same hatred towards Ellie as Ellie had toward Abby, which is also the same hatred Abby had towards Joel.
Absolutely unsatisfying. They made the protagonist into the antagonist and literally just shat all over the story. Ellie should've at least ended Abby's existence.

Scott free? She had clearly been horrifically abused and basically been crucified. Ellie knows they've had her there for months, and has just seen that the workers have such a hard time that they will violently uprise at the drop of a hat, plus the guy who found her upside down REALLY made it sound like they use women up and toss them away.
Has Abby been raped and tortured for months on end? Most likely, yes. She's paid for her sins.

@@GaZZuM Not only that, but in her revenge, she got even more pain back, by Ellie killing all her other friends. Also, she realized how shit her life was: joined the WLF just because it would make revenge easier (she didn't like them, turned her back on them the first time she could), had no real bounds with anyone (Owen loved her, but probably gave up on her because she made the revenge more important than him), lived in pain and fear for all those years, just seeking to do bad to someone. I mean, in Abby's place, everyone would've done the same, and that's the game whole point, the cycle of revenge and violence just keep bringing more and more shit to your life, and the ending means Ellie didn't want to take revenge, but she just couldn't live without it. That's what I love about it, of course I didn't want Joel to die like that, but it's such a deep ending, with so much meaning, it's a crazy experience...

Ellie doesn't: Loses her fingers, loses Joel, loses Jesse, loses Dina and the baby
abby loses her "boyfriend", Mel, Nora and his father.
There is still a chance she win back Dina after explaining everything.

Well, she lost her dad, and all her friends, her muscles, gets stab wounds and cuts, and lives to suffer through it all.
This made my stomach churn and when she went to play guitar and realized she couldn't anymore, it broke my heart.

NEmUS I’ve played the first Last Of Us game but luckily I didn’t get this game because of how they literally killed Joel really early in the game and the best part is that we did NOT get revenge on those people that killed him. That’s literally like receiving that birthday present you always wanted but then some kid steals it right out of your hands and there’s nothing you can do about it. This was a major disappointment to us fans of this game :(

How do you make this game non-canon? Go to the surgeons at the end of the first game and shoot Abbys father at the edge of his toe, THE VERY EDGE with an arrow. No one can die with that wound. Sure the father will collapse but mostly due to shock. Seriously, you can't die from an arrow to the toe.

One of the worst endings in gaming. Too many unanswered questions, everything was for nothing and our protagonist now has the likeness of an antagonist
Edit: Okay calm ya horses people it was simply my opinion. Yes, Ellie was trying to break the cycle of violence she created, but I just feel like the ending was lacklustre. Sure, a game can end on unanswered questions, but it needs to be done much better than how it's been done here. Remember this is only my opinion so don't take any offense to it
I think that was the point in the game, they said from the start that this ending was going to be a contrast to the first, in the first game the ending was hopeful and storybook, this time round it's sad, hopeless and depressing, but the way you feel finishing the game is the way the characters feel because their life has been ruined by other people.
What exactly is left unanswered? and this isn't the first time that the protagonist would be an anti-hero
@@Neo2266. What I meant was that Ellie, who fought to do things right, goes completely against her character near the end and becomes almost a different character. Sure, a protagonist can turn to an antagonist, but it has been done much better than it has in this game

I took inspiration to write a better story:
A story centered about forgiving and acceptance. Have Abby much younger when she witnessed her father's death and does not know Joel's name. Abby grows up a lone survivor who has a history of being betrayed. However, during a winter storm, Abby is unable to find shelter and is surrounded by a horde of infected and about to get bit, but is saved by Joel and Tommy (Like in the actual game). The three of them fight through the horde and manage to get back to Jackson safely. They find out Abby is a lone survivor and offer her to stay in Jackson. Abby is reluctant but decides to stay since its winter and won't survive alone. During this time, Abby befriends the people there and even goes on patrols with Joel and Abby. They bond and save each other lives multiple times. The main enemy could be a faction that has been attacking Jackson frequently. There could be a small war going on between the two groups with the players playing as Joel, Ellie, and Abby clearing out opposing faction. During one attack Jackson suffers serious casualties. This leads to an all-out assault from Jackson. Ellie and Abby eventually get the HQ of the opposing faction to find out they are looking for a girl who happens to be immune. They interrogate the leader at the HQ and the opposing faction is now revealed to be ex-fireflies who made a new group after Joel killed most of them. He tells them some crazy man killed everyone there and took a girl who was immune. The ones who didn't die decided to make a new faction that has the same beliefs as the Fireflies but are more brutal about getting a cure. This hits Ellie hard as she realizes what really happened in Part I. Ellie tells Abby she has to go see something for herself and leaves. Abby tells Joel what happened and doesn't know where Ellie is going. Joel realizes shes going back to the firefly hospital from part 1. Joel and Abby then take off chasing Ellie.
They arrive at the hospital. Abby and Joel are looking for Ellie in the hospital where Abby reveals her family worked in a hospital a lot like this one and even lost them from an attack. Abby and Joel split up to look for her. Abby finds Ellie in a room that has security camera footage of what happened. Ellies starts crying and Abby starts watching the security camera footage and comes across footage of Joel killing the doctors. Abby realizes that this was the hospital she lost her family in and that Joel is the one who killed her loved ones. Abby is in shock and leaves the room where Ellie is still crying. She finds Joel on another floor and points a gun at him while crying. She asks him the truth and tells him that he killed her family. Joel admits what he did and a boss fight breaks out where you play as both Joel and Abby sneaking around trying to get a jump on each other. Abby wins and pins Joel down. She is conflicted since this is the man that killed her family but is also the one who saved her multiple times and gave her shelter. Joel tells her how many bad things he did in his life but couldn't bear losing Ellie. Abby decides to lower her gun and forgive Joel. Ellie shows up and tells Joel she figured out the truth. Ellie tells him that she wanted the surgery to happen and her life to matter. The two share a heartfelt moment where Joel says he didn't want to lose another daughter. They arrive back at Jackson and Ellie reveals that she found leads to another hospital with doctors and tells Joel shes going. Before Joel could respond, Ellie knocks Joel out.
Ellie leaves him a heartfelt note about there journey together and how much she cared about him. The story could end with Joel sitting outside his house at Jackson reading the note with cutaways to a cure being manufactured because of Ellie. Joel picks up a guitar and starts playing. End.

I saw a gameplay of a UA-camr playing the game. I thought to myself, “Hey this looks really cool with all the graphics and the characters. I can’t wait to buy it!”. But when it got to the part where they literally killed Joel like if he was some sort of random ass NPC I just started to lose interest of the game. Such a disappointment 😔

Everyone is getting on Abby but really she has it just as bad as Ellie if not worse. Abby was affected first, we just don't have that attachment with her like we did with Joel and Ellie since we played as them in the original game. Abby lost her father, the joyous man who she loved to death and that's what triggered her desire for revenge in the first place. I know Joel had no choice really, but maybe if he didn't kill the doctor in the first place and held him at gun point this wouldn't have happened. Abby should have let go yes...But she didn't. Abby had a change of heart when given the chance to massacre Ellie and Dina, but she DIDN'T. She could have EASILY. Especially after she witnessed her dead dog, Alice, Owen, and Mel...She literally betrayed her Wolf Pack (WLF) For some kid she barely even knew but became close to...She developed a relationship with Lev like Joel had with Ellie, she lost her best friends and her whole group, and her dad. But was still willing to let Ellie live. Ellie never let go...Ellie lost Joel yes. But she had a FAMILY. She had Dina, JJ, and her farm home with many animals. She was living the life she always wanted, HAPPILY. Abby didn't have ANYTHING except for Lev...Ellie literally placed a knife against a child's neck just to make Abby fight her when Abby moved on way back nearly two years ago. Both of them are in the wrong...I get Ellie had PTSD, but both suffered, not just her. If only Ellie had moved on, maybe she could still be happy with Dina. But who knows?? maybe they will be reunited in the next game.
Goldie I think if Ellie had just gotten on the boat and left after seeing what Abby had gone through then it would’ve been a better ending, although I still like the game even with some of the disappointment I got from being Abby for so long, and from Ellie losing two fingers

You know, I didn't play the game, but apparently the story is really shit, as long as i searched for, which explains the proportion of dislikes in this video. But I gave it a like, anyway, because I'll save some good money to buy another game.
Yes, I'm not a fan of spoilers at all, but after seing that much rage (especially on Metacritic), I had to see this.
Don't get me wrong, gameplay of The Last of Us Part 2 might be excellent, but for a game that has the story as a major selling point, this is really bad. I don't care if a Super Mario or Crash Bandicoot story is crap, since these games just need to be colorful, fun to play and addicting. But when a game like The Last of Us 2 has hours of cinematics, ir order to make the player feel emotions during gameplay, it has to offer something good. But the coincidences at the beginning (Joel simply finds Abby and horribly dies some minutes later) are bad, being forced to play hours as Abby while the game just tries (and I guess it fails) to humanize her after that brutal murder at the beginning is also bad, and this ending just makes all Ellie's kills in the game feels like without purpose.
Some people might like this game's story, but a lot of people won't like either, and I can't blame them.

This is the one thing that really bothers me from the story, why did they have to do two fingers. If they did one I would be kinda fine with it but two just bothers me
She lost the ability to play the guitar which is something she connects with Joel since he taught her to play the guitar, it was a symbol of letting go and moving on without further deaths and the need for revenge.
Also it could imply that Abby is actually infected since which I find strange Ellie got bitten from a clicker not even an hour before the fight so that’s that.
I’m sure the devs have something in mind and don’t permanently scar the protagonist for no reason.
I really enjoyed this game. I think it depicts the stages of grief perfectly and that is what I think they were going for. After Joel’s death Ellie is clearly in the stage of denial and shock. That then turns into anger. This leads Ellie on a massacre as she is directing her pain on to others rather then allowing herself to feel it. Grief can be exceptionally dangerous especially in a world that is depicted here.Then finally at the end it’s acceptance and the realisation that what she does will never bring Joel back. She finally allows herself to feel and in turn breaks down. She needed to confront Abby to finally free herself of her inner demons. It is not Abby she is sparing, it is actually herself.
All she would do is create another cycle of violence. I am not criticising anyone on their opinion of the game but I think people expect things to work out perfectly in an imperfect world. Heroes rarely die a heroic death and people make catastrophic mistakes until they realise that they need to change their actions. This normally happens at the crossroads of their life.
Ellie losing two fingers at the end symbolises that she lost Dina and Joel to revenge. I think it is definitely an interesting character study and is somewhat overlooked by the mass hysteria over the game currently. Many may interpret this ending as Abby getting away with it Scott free. She does not as she loses all her friends and even her dignity by the end. Nothing but a worn down broken person.
Ellie actually follows a similar path to Joel and because Joel chooses the selfish path of saving Ellie it stops him from being alone. Ellie makes the opposite decision and ends this constant cycle but gives up her life for it but in turn saves what little humanity she has left. By the end she learns to forgive herself.
Abby biting off Ellie's fingers, could she gotten infected from that and that's why Ellie let her go?

She is!!! In fact Abby got bitten way before chewing on Ellie´s fingers. It is also mentioned by the cell mates at Santa Barbara prison, after you get them free. Ellie bit Abby back at the movie theater fight (you can clearly see the bite mark). Go watch the video. She is clearly infected and will die, We just don't get to see when it happens. When I saw Abby running off on that boat I thought to myself that she'd turn and that THAT was the kind of death she deserved.
imho Abby learns that revenge didnt solve anything after she killed Joel. She even spare Ellie's and Tommy's life twice. If u think about it saving Ellie's life second time actually saved Abby's life in the end.

She's not a carrier, the fungus is merely asymptomatic in her body. Ellie cannot spread nor show signs of the virus hence why the infected attack her, cause she's not one of them
dinolover she still got bit by a clicker not even an hour before the fight near her left hand so she could carry the virus and Abby could have caught it since she most likely swallowed some of Ellie’s blood while biting off her fingers.

Poor ellie, couldnt watch her suffer like that, she has done no wrong to watch her father figure die like that in front of her... And the worst of all she ends up being alone, loses her finger and couldnt play guitar again in her life, her only connection to joel

What a fucking let down
I loved the game, and story. I’ve come to terms with Joel’s death, but I hate that Ellie lost her fucking fingers. I hate that she let them go, like what the absolute fuck. 9/10 for me on a good day.

i thought when the game released in the end ellie would sacrifice herself to make a cure but when they said the only peron who could make a cure is dead i was sooo sad

I really hope this game has a plot twist that it was all a nightmare and then Ellie wakes up with all 10 fingers the gameplay was aight but I dont know about the ending, or how Joel died in a such cruel manner.
What I don’t understand is how they have such a huge focus on her playing guitar and the memory of Joel through that song, yet act like she couldn’t learn how to play left handed. She knows the chords and how to play so if it really had that super deep meaning to her one would think she’d just teach herself to play left handed. It’d be hard but something with that deep of a meaning to her it’d be possible. Just a thought. Just seems to me they were trying to convey this message that revenge cost her everything, even the connection she had to the person she was seeking revenge for and that they just missed the target BIG TIME.
This is really heartbreaking ending. I don’t like it but this ending is so... natural. Ellie can’t kill Abby bc she understand that killing her don’t return Joel. Don’t return nobody and nothing. Killing for killing, an eye for an eye, she understand that and she can’t accept it. Killing her(Abby) is really will be waste of Ellie. And this is so heartbreaking. Ellie couldn’t accept Joel’s death for months(??) and now she did it. Very strong, nasty ending. I don’t like it but... I can’t say that this is bad. This is just true. (sorry eng not my first language)
But the countless other people she killed was fine. They don't count, they're expendable. I think she wasted herself when she killed 100 of Abby's guards. If the roles were reversed, would it have been the same if Joel saw Ellie die?
Joel was already on the wrong when he killed all of the doctors and researchers (invaluable on an apocalypse) at the end of TLOU 1. I think they're just showing the consequences of his own actions. Joel is not a hero, people don't understand that, and Ellie was going the same path but she realised what she was doing, what she had done.

I actually think it's the right ending. You don't get to have an happy ending with everything you did during the whole game and it's g o o d.
We were not the "good guys" on this game and that was never the case. Joel doomed everyone just for Ellie, Ellie destroyed many lives just in order to avenge Joel, Abby lost all of them too because she choses the same path of revenge before Ellie because of what Joel did to her father.
Yeh it's a bitter ending, but it's a good one, it's the most accurate one.
Joel and Ellie don't deserve a good ending even if we love them.
