Seriously you are the biggest help! I watched your 2290 filing video and now this one and I’ve learned so much! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, seriously they are so helpful!
Could you please put links to the tax exempt forms you have it would be a great help and greatly appreciated. Also what about Tennessee you didn't mention it
I'm not sure but I was told by more than 1 accountant that anything you buy for your business can be tax exempt. I will have to look into this some more.
Help please!! I’m looking in PA but can’t find anything if I am tax exempt I purchased a semi tractor at an auction in North Carolina I paid them sales tax . But now I want to register my truck in Pennsylvania and want to see if I can be tax exempt but can’t find the form. Can you please guide me?
So my daughter is joined with my son to make a truck purchase. She has a 501c3 tax exempt and non profit. She as the form we are in Ohio. They are going to purchase a truck there looking to lease or pay cash can they be exempt from the sales tax.? I We have used it for other purchases but forget when it comes to larger purchases. Thanks
@@DIYSEMI ok so what qualifies you to use the sales tax form. I have the form your talking about. Can I it use it when purchasing a truck or car to wave the tax..?
Parts and labor for repair of trucks and trailers are exempt. Trucks themselves always depends on the intended use. You will have to read the rule in the state you are doing it in
Thanks for the information. I am planning to purchase truck in California. How do I obtain a sales tax exemption form? Do I have to register or just fill out and keep it? Please let me know. Thanks.
California does not offer sales tax exemption to trucking as far as i know. I listed the states in the video. As far as tax on the truck itself..each state is very different and i am not familiar with california because i do no business there. The dealer will have to guide you on that, or a call to an accountant would be smart. You should get an accounta t anyway if you are starting a business
Thanks for the info but i have looked my state of Maryland and even called my state but they claim this is only for non profit. If you have the form info for maryland or where you went to get it, can you please share? Thanks a lot!!!
Here is the paragraph on the topic. I havent used the form so im not sure where to find it. Google maryland sec 11-208c so you can see the text for yourself. Motor Vehicle Sales: Sales of motor vehicles (not including house and office trailers) that are subject to the motor vehicle excise tax levied under the Transportation Article are exempt from sales and use tax. ( Sec. 11-221(a), Tax General Art. ) Motor vehicles that will be titled or registered in another state are exempt. ( Sec. 11- 208(c), Tax General Art. ) Sales of motor vehicles used principally to cross state lines in interstate or foreign commerce and sales of replacement parts or other property to be used in, on, or by these motor vehicles are exempt. ( Sec. 11-208(c), Tax General Art. ) let me know if they prove me wrong, but it seems it couldnt bebany more clear. Thanks so much for watching!
Just came across your video while trying to figure this out. We purchased a used semi from a guy down the road. When we go to register and title it do we take the tax exempt form with us to avoid paying sales tax?
I am also in Wi. I take the form with me. They only ask for it about 50% of the time. As long as you know your mc# usually they don't ask for the form. Wi is great, almost everything is tax exempt for trucking here!
I’m buying truck for my new business in Illinois and they said I don’t have to pay, but now I find another truck in Ohio is it the same rule. and how about Florida is taxes exemption as well?? Really appreciate your help
I am buying a truck at kenworth Jacksonville, Fl...and try to charge me 6% in sales tax... But the truck will be portion plates..do i have to pay when the truck will be more the 90% out of florida?? Great video Sr.
Hey man nice video. So I purchased a truck and trailer from out of state and I’m trying to transfer the titles to my name in Georgia, and the tax office is not tax exempting them and telling me I need a Georgia tax ID to get them tax exempt. Since these equipments are used for transporting goods through interstates, shouldn’t they be tax exempt automatically without needing a tax ID? Thanks
Good video, thank you. What about the sale tax when you actually buy truck. Let's say I bought truck in Utah and will use it in CA. Is there a way how to avoid sale tax when I will register my commercial truck in CA?
Thanks for another great video! Quick question, I’m buying a Canadian truck where the seller is crossing it over the border and I’m going to purchase. What permits would I need to drive the truck bobtail back home? I’m going from Wa to Az. Do I need a permit from each state I’m traveling through or my home state? Will be getting IRP after I get it inspected in Az. Thanks!!
What about as a independent contractor. I’m currently driving someone else’s truck but I have my own business account. Joe much should I set apart for myself tax wise?
Fist thank you for doing these videos they are really helpful for us newbs. I wanted to ask if you could help me with which boxes to check as a single member llc owner operator company. I went to apply just in Florida to begin with and I just could not figure out exactly which to check off and which to not. If it is not that simple then can you suggest a reasonable place to pay for this service or something to that effect if you would please. Thank you DIY SEMI.
So I bought out my lease truck. DMV says I need to pay sales tax on final buy out amount to transfer title to my name in Nevada. I’m still leased onto carrier and plates/registered in Indiana. Do you know if I’m exempt in Nevada?
Hey, does my MC # have to be active for the tax exemption in Pennsylvania? Can you help please I’m at a freightliner right now and they told me my dot is not active so they can’t accept my tax exempt form
You can't do this in Nevada. I went to the Dept. of Taxation and they basically laughed at me. After doing some research, I found: "Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 372.326 provides for an exemption from Sales/Use Tax for non-profit organizations created for religious, charitable, or educational purposes..."
every state can have their own rules, but a general guideline is anything that is attached to or becomes part of the truck. So in most cases those items qualify. Now, not every state offer tax exempt, some offer it on parts, some just on the purchase of the truck etc...so read the form for the state you are buying it in
I am so confused about this use tax. I called GA tax payer services and spoke with someone who told me that you still have to pay taxes on parts that you buy to put on your truck. She said when you buy a part for the truck and not pay taxes on it then you have to file that amount when it is time to file, which is monthly for us. She also said that there is no point in having a sales and use tax certificate and account because you will still have to pay the taxes on it when you file! Her suggestion was to close the account and just pay the taxes on the parts. I am still totally confused, why even go through all of this if you have to end up paying taxes on the parts anyway! All the parts we buy for the truck are purchased in GA. Any input would be helpful! Thanks!!
So question I am in ohio. And I see the forms printable online. So do I just hand these out with my info signed. Or do I have to get approved by the state?
