His Mom taught him to sing. Amazing technique, flawless, beautiful timber. His Mother did a splendid job-- what a range, fluidity of music.. thanks for the video
Oh my God. I just stumbled upon this recording, and I am blown away by this magnificent voice. Absolutely incredible!! Í'm still in shock and full of goosebumps. WOW!
I love this artist, but particularly his records. Live, you could be deceived. His voice is small. I've heard him in the Stabat Mater ( Pergolesi ) in the cathedral in Fréjus, famous for it's good acoustic. We could hardly hear him when, at his side, the young french soprano Camille Poul sounded powerfully.
I've listened to it again. It's just stunning! Great artist! Wonderful voice with a velvet timbre and magical low notes! Brilliant technique! He is really unique! Bravissimo! Happy birthday!
A noted singer from way back who started his career in the Vienna Boy's Choir as a soprano; then became a sopranist (falsetto voice), and since has mostly sung male alto roles. His voice has flexibility even as he shifts from head to chest range; in fact the change is almost imperceptable. In addition, he displays good musicianship no matter what work he is performing.
Max you are great! I would like to meet one day and do a duet ... or just have coffee and a chat. May 2011 an amazing year for you and your loved ones. Take care
wow.very nice! and now im really interest in counter tenors..its beautiful. and for me it sounds even more fragile when a man is singing such high notes (with such intensity)
Cencic is without doubt the best countertenor that could be found today. He's a true musician and his voice is not only beautiful on all his considerable range but it can be heard in a theatre! I heard him singing Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare and his voice was much louder than Sonia Prina's, who was singing the title role. Also, he's one of the few countertenors who is not embarassing to look to, like Jaroussky is, for instance. He's no Brad Pitt, but he's funny and sweet, with no hint of affection
I'm really not a fan of counter-tenors. But for the first time in my life, i found one i really like. His voice is really really nice. And sounds very healthy. Congratulations ;)
@mafelix ... and that is, his voice, natural alto tessitura, but what we adore is counter- alto or counter- tenor, so here is in short what mean: Luci belle voi siete due stelle - FILIPPO MINECCIA
Hi Editor, I have a TV-recording of a fantastic "Missa Solemnis" performance from 1973 with ME Cencic and others - Vienna Boys´Choir too - in good quality at least parts of it. That means: not completely. Do you know whether that recording is already "available" at UA-cam ? Otherwise I have to look whether the performance is available at Amazon and to respect that...
Interesting - he is singing the music of Arsace a male who is sung by a mezzo eg Marilyn Horne. He sounds like a light decent mezzo so what is gained by having this voice?- The visual is Yukky.
@ahfoe The terms sopranist and "true counter-tenor" have changed drastically in modern nights. Sopranist is one who sings, can sustain, and specializes in soprano-tessitura literature. Mr. Cencic is not a sopranist. "True countertenor" has fallen out of vogue as well as nearly 100% of "big name" countertenors are falsettist -- including Mr. Cencic. It is a technique called reinforced falsetto, which heavily incorporates using a mixed register to blend head voice into falsetto.
he's a light contertenor tends to the soprano the low(contralto) countertenors dons't have good high notes and their voices r heavier not ideal for coloratura u can't have it all But i think he's one of the greatest
Andreas, you have a beautiful voice, too. I have a couple of your CDs, too and I take turns listening to your voice and Max's. Max's voice has a feminine touch, like Daniels, your is more masculine, to my ears, at least. But no one can sing better Bach than you!!!
BRAVO !
I keep telling myself, I don't like Countertenors... I don't like Countertenor. Well ok, so what? This man is a true male Soprano... Check out the "Arte-Lounge" performances (only in Berlin would you find an hot-shot nightclub in all its 21st C electronic finery, featuring Baroque artistry, and WORLD -CLASS performances at that!) and the Interview with Max. As the lady says, he's really a great Diva! He's also utterly adorable.
To me his low notes on the contrary sound even more impressive than his high notes. I know for whom it was written. I just think that in Cencic's rendition it sounds more beautiful than female mezzo-contraltos. He is unique! But, of course, everbody hears the same stuff in a different way. Thanks for your opinion, but that was mine. To you Jaroussky's voice sounds more masculine than Cencic's? I'm just curious.
WOW!
Beautiful! I love his low notes and high coloraturas. What a great artist! I can hardly wait to hear him live.

The beauty of the voice and the man are breath taking.....a beautiful interpretation...
Beautiful man, beautiful voice.
La belleza de su voz es increíble! Me gustaría escucharle cantar más Rossini.
I've listened to it again. It's just stunning! Great artist! Wonderful voice with a velvet timbre and magical low notes! Brilliant technique! He is really unique! Bravissimo! Happy birthday!
Wow....he really should sing Arsace at the big theaters....plus Neocle and Tancredi. Beautiful voice and gorgeous man...

This guy is trully amazing, what a pleasure it is to hear him!
I love this! Exceptional version of ah quel giorno
Magnificent! Adorable interpreter.
this is just great. He make me happy every time I listen to Max.
Excellent! A much more voluminous voice than most countertenors have, even with some good low notes.
I love it. BRAVO!
grosse kuss

Lovely
Bravissimo, voice and technique are amazing ..
Wonderful! Arsace is a male character and it's perfect in Cencic's voice.
Great discovery. I am a big fan of him now. Musical greetings from Brazil.
Bravo Cencic!!
Just awesome! Amazing that in his interpretation Rossini can sound THAT beautiful!
Beautiful timbre, excellent voices over all registers and great coloratura - extraordinary!
Bravo. Love this aria and love his interpretation of it. He has a new fan! :)
very great and wonderful voice, he did beautiful duets with Jarousky
Still the best there is. Great voice control, emotional and handsome as well. Some people have it all :))) Good luck Max, you deserve it!
Max you are great! I would like to meet one day and do a duet ... or just have coffee and a chat. May 2011 an amazing year for you and your loved ones. Take care
Bravissimo!
Mi piacerebbe sentire il suo tancredi
wow.very nice! and now im really interest in counter tenors..its beautiful. and for me it sounds even more fragile when a man is singing such high notes (with such intensity)
Wonderful! perfect.

The aria is "Ah, Quel Giorno " from Semiramide, Act 1. Sung by the character Arsace.
I'm really not a fan of counter-tenors. But for the first time in my life, i found one i really like. His voice is really really nice. And sounds very healthy. Congratulations ;)
the best ,le meilleur bravo bravo......
Dear Max you are the best ever. - Hope to meet you one day.
This is the best I've heard Cencic sing.
This is art with very high standards. Max whenever you come to the Netherlands let us know. I will be there.
@mafelix ... and that is, his voice, natural alto tessitura, but what we adore is counter- alto or counter- tenor, so here is in short what mean: Luci belle voi siete due stelle - FILIPPO MINECCIA
meraviglioso!!!
aaaach... wunderschön!!!
@FILBACH That is not Spinosi. As it says at the beginning it is Pierre-Michel Durand. He just looks a lot like Spinosi from the back.
stupendo!
Since 2005 that work is available on DVD (Google)... I recommend the purchasing and have to dispense with posting...:(
He has beautiful eyes.

he is the best. I'm hopeing to sing once with him. I think I have to wait a nother year. I sang already with terry wye, he is a great singer to.
Yes !
Epic
valla que tiene una voz poderosa
@2010wieliczka im not sure he uses any modal voice, many good countertenors can get down to low F or G in falsetto
The timbre is better than that of most who later decide to sing as countertenor. He sang soprano all his life long.
Congratulations!!! ...
Wow!
@CountertenorJ i figured, thanks!
It's Dessay towards the very end. Did she even sing in this concert ?
A mezzo? The Technic is completly diferent and the sound too
VOZ --LINDÍSSIMA --!!!!
22-05-2013
he is not a countertenor he is a real mezzosoprano bravo bravo i love im
@FILBACH
are you sure that's spinosi?
@mafelix I am and more casually intrigued by the romantic repertoire.
@mafelix it's probably the repetoir, you not a fan of baroque?
Interesting - he is singing the music of Arsace a male who is sung by a mezzo eg Marilyn Horne. He sounds like a light decent mezzo so what is gained by having this voice?- The visual is Yukky.
Is that Maestro Spinosi as conductor?
I think that Cencic (Arsace) and Jarrousky (Semiramide) singing Semiramide together might be something really unique.....
Lucky you!
@podkowalesna hahaha that would be really weird, but also nice!
uh no, it's not. jean christophe spinosi is the dude that plays with jaroussky quite often, google image him if unsure.
what is the name of this program? I have seen a few clips from it, including Dessay, Genaux, etc. Is the entire program available?
@Guichotpresident That is not Spinosi.
What's the name of this show and the host's name?
Plenty of opera singers can sing this, some I'd rate more highly than others, but there's only one highest, one unique max - 'The Max'.
busca (Handel: Tamerlano, HWV18 "A Dispetto.."

u can't have it all
But i think he's one of the greatest

No, it was an french TV show. Sh sung too !
O no?
Virile. No, va be', bravissimo.
BRAVO !

Sorry, not from 1973 but 1989...:)
he is not countertenor ,he is mezzo soprano
