- River Dee Carp Fishing. A walk along the River Dee in Chester City Centre. Starting on the upper reaches of the meadows, down past the rowing club and the Boathouse Pub to Queens Park Bridge and the groves, then looking down past the boats towards the weir. The River Dee is tidal here, even above Chester Weir. Check out the link in the comments section to find out about River Dee tide times.

Watching this has brought back happy memories. Thank you for posting.
thanks steve...and for me too, i really enjoyed fishing there back in the day👍🎣
Nice one mark I'll give it a go soon , I've not carp fished the Dee there before, launched my boat a few times on the other side from where you started but thats for the pike and perch, usually ride it up to farndon and back, few nice pegs in farndon too . Cheers mate.
not as many carp in the city centre as there used to be mate, pressure has pushed some of them out and upstream but there are still plenty left to go at👍
Amazing video, l am just move to Chester from London, love river Dee catch already huge pike (Eccleston)
Hopefully catch some river carp soon;)
hi simon, yeah eccy is good for pike, the carp are quite nomadic but there's always some in the centre of chester, it's a good challenge to take on👍
Hi Mark, great video of the river I'm moving to Chester in a month . So will be on here searching for them. I fished rivers in and around London so would be cool to fish a river not surrounded by housing estates :)
yeah it won't be that bad compared to London mike, there are plenty of places that are out of the way of the general public too, there is a rowing club in the centre and boaters can sometimes be a pain but apart from that it's ok, I think it's still free fishing too👍
@@MarkCarp cool looking forward to it , you know of any syndicate waters in this area? You got an Instagram account
@@mikescott9410 yeah mike my insta is markernw, there should be a link to it on my youtube home page or you can just look up my username, not many syndicates up here mate, very few and far between, the fish are a lot smaller up here, look to the big clubs in the area, lymm, warrington, Northwich and winsford, they are all open access and all have decent sized fish but they are all busy too.
Tide times, this page is for Liverpool but it applies to the Dee too, anything over 8.4m will come over the weir. www.ntslf.org/tides/tidepred?port=Liverpool
What size have they been known to go to? And best stretches to fish on the canal?
hi mate, biggest I had was just over 21lb, I've also seen one just over 25lb, the vast majority are singles and low doubles though👍 best place I know of on the canal is the boat museum in ellesmere port👍
Mark Carp thank you for that will give it a go good video
@@jstash9364 you're welcome mate, let me know how you get on👍
allrite mark looking on fishing this location is it still active do you know with carp, cheers
yes mate, it's not as good as it was but it's still one of the best places on the river to find carp, i hear of fish coming out every year, most keep quiet but the odd one makes it onto faceache👍
@@MarkCarp cheers mark, may i ask wat bait dis you have most success on,is there any other good spots that your aware of along the river once again thanks gor the reply👍
@@mogadog9184 the carp are literally all over the river mate, the city centre is still the best spot but they are also in the tidal below the weir although the fishing down there is very hit and miss and it's a proper dump, further up the free stretch at eccleston ferry is worth a look. when i fished the river i literally just used up any spare bait i had at the time, that was mostly bandit baits mulberry birdfood boilies, chick peas and tiger nuts, i caught on all of them but mostly tigers because they're bullet proof and i could just put the rig back out without having to rebait it in the dark👍
@@MarkCarp thanks mark ill give it a go👍
@@mogadog9184 good luck mate👍
Have you ever had any of the big barbel while after the carp ,I was trying for the carp up Farndon today and had a 13lb barbel , was a nice suprise. I'm thinking of trying this spot is it dee anglers pal?
barbel are still quite rare in the dee matt, you've done superbly well catching a 13lb fish, the river record is only a pound or so heavier than that, fish of a lifetime that mate 👍 I've never caught any barbel whilst fishing for the carp and I've never caught any carp from the farndon area although they have been seen there occasionally. You need to be further downstream to be in with a better chance of a carp, dee anglers have a stretch by farndon bridge opposite the free swims and they have the city centre where there are more carp so yeah they are a good club to join 👍
Yes I know I was very lucky I heard the record out that stretch was a couple lb bigger . Is it free this stretch that your walking down (the meadows) area? Might do some winter carping you see
matthew crowder Yes matt that's the meadows, anywhere along there or down towards the rowing club/bridge is good 👍
That's cracking , I've always put it off thinking it's a runs part , now I've seen u be had a couple and it's free that may be my home for a few weeks now haha , thanks very much buddy . Good luck where ever you are fishing 👍
you're welcome matt, good luck mate 👍
look down below the wier
Paul Cooke plenty down there as well paul, I can't get on with it though, access is poor and I noticed rather a large amount of used needles down by the racecourse when I was doing my recce's, its not a stretch of the river I ever intend to fish.
Think I'll have a good long recky along this river this year
Do you need a day ticket to fish this mate?
no day ticket required mate, as far as I know it's free👍
@@MarkCarp I know where im going Saturday then! 🎣
@@XxTysonsGames hard going at this time of year alan, it's tidal as well so you need to check how high the tides are and what time they come in, the tide is an awesome force on that stretch, it sweeps away all leads, I've even seen trees being swept upstream!👍
@@MarkCarp itching to get out 🎣 ill have a wander around gor few hours, only 20mins away from me 👍
@@XxTysonsGames deffo worth a walk alan, in summer you can catch all along the city centre from the weir right up past the meadows, parking is a bit of a pain though, best time is in the evening after the shops have closed👍
does this stretch belong to a club or is it free fishing? lovely vid btw
its free fishing Robert and still plenty of carp in that area, summer seems to be the best time for them 👍
Thanks for the quick reply. I may well be having a go myself early summer then 👍tight lines
no worries mate, good luck 👍
went for a look today. noticed the 'no camping' sign up towards the boatclub end...does that mean no night fishing or are u able to bivvy up with no problem?
as far as I know you can night fish Robert, you might get someone moan and try to move you on if you are bivvied up, I always fished under a brolly so as not to fall foul of the camping rule 👍
in order to not draw attention to myself I only set up half an hour before dark and I always left just after first light before the dog walkers came out, that way nobody knew what I was doing 👍
Completely changed now in the town all the trees on the bank you walked have gone
i heard that it had been butchered dave, such a shame, those trees were good cover for the fish🤐
Mark Carp I've nearly finished doing a 12ft boat up I'll be on there soon seeing I I can catch any. Just waiting for my launch license off the council in the post
nice one dave, I've got a mate that launches from the sandy lane car park now and again, he's a pike angler and he always seems to do well, being afloat is a definite edge👍
River dee carp result. northwestcarp.blogspot.co.uk/2008/11/river-carp-result.html
What type of bait would you use here?
hi mate, I used mulberry flavoured boilies myself but any flavour boilie will work👍
Mark Carp thankyou!😀
I live near river dee
nice one, you should try and catch one of those monsters 👍
Mark Carp I've caught a 1 and a half foot pike there with my dad.
I Live Here
ha ha, nice one mate, now you know there are some monster sized fish swimming round right were you are👍
