the mobile ports of 4-6 however are good and seem even more refined then the ds versions with party chat for IV and some slight refining to the gameplay like minor buffs to party members or QOL and removing ds wi-fi features in favor for something else it's just...mobile controls...
Gameboy version has the extra bonus dungeon and mini medals and still keeps pachisi. it will always be the definitive version unless the hd 2d remake includes these which is likely wont
BSNES is an emulator to replicate the SNES in terms of accuracy to mime the original SNES to the max. But HD graphics are certainly not in the cards as that would neglect the idea behind this emulator. But BSNES, don't know what the most current version is, is indeed the best way to enjoy SNES games you can not play otherwise anymore. Hopefully Square-Enix will deliver a classic Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest Collection that holds all NES, GBC and SNES Versions available in English and Japanese for comparison sake and what not. That I would buy.
ares's SNES core is the most accurate right now, which was originally made by the same developer as bsnes. bsnes's current iteration by default actually makes some compromises to its accuracy to improve performance, but it's still up there as one of the most accurate SNES emulators.
Out of the versions released in America I think the GBC version has all the best features. It has the enemy animation features from the SNES version but keeps the original 8bit charm and art style and look of the original NES game with improved music. The SNES version is too generic the graphics look the same in Dragon Quest1-6 on the SNES and I don’t like that. Switch version is quite bad though. No enemy attack animations.
I'm just assuming by your comment that you actually have never played 1-6 snes versions. Because anyone who has would know that 1,2, and 5 all look like an nes game but 4 isn't on snes and if so what might an snes copy of 4 be like in comparison to all the others. And just also for the record dq3 snes has been better graphics than dq6 snes in a lot of aspects
@@ScarletDeclan I know DQ4 is not on SNES I wrote DQ1-6 instead of writing out each one. My mistake apologies😅 It is like writing I own FF1-9 on PS1 when that is true except for FF3 which never got a PS1 release. I played DQ5 and DQ3 Super Famicom versions and they all have very similar looks to them. I'm fine with DQ5 looking like that but I feel like DQ 1, 2, 3 lose some of the original 8bit Famicom charm by giving them the graphics of the 16bit DQ games they just all end up looking like DQ5 to me which is great but the GBC versions at least for me are the best of both worlds. They have the improvements from the SNES version but keep the style and look closer to the NES game. I might be weird but I'm still the person that prefers the 8bit Dragon Quest 1 soundtrack over all the newer orchestra versions so for DQ3 the GBC version is my go to. Plus as a Dragon Quest fan they only real English versions of DQ3 I can buy are the NES, GBC or Switch versions and so as a Dragon Quest fan GBC version is the one I keep on the shelf for my Dragon Quest collection. I hope that DQ3 HD Remaster they are making ends up being great. Anyway love these videos hope you do more 😄
@@NinjaxShadowXx I highly appreciate you going back and explaining what you meant and clarifying. Very nice of you to do that. And yeah with your specifications I can totally see just liking gbc the best. And I genuinely think everyone who is a huge DQ fan already knows the content of my video but I made it in hopes of seeing comments like this and I also genuinely think every DQ fan wants the hd2d version of 3 to be the magical mashup of all content I mentioned in this video. As far as making more of these I may do that. I'm sort of wanting to make one for dq5 since I love the PS2 version so much but dq5 has so many differences for each version that it is so much to cover
Flickering bars on nes are usually hidden by overscan on a crt. If playing on emulators they will usually have a mode which can crop it. Love the gameboy color version immensely, the OST is ripping on that version.
I agree with that tier list 😂 I'm really excited for the HD 2D remake, but I hope they add new bonus content rather than bring back anything from the super famicom/gbc versions. Don't get me wrong, the bonus content in those versions is fun but I also think it's often distracting and/or tedious - this is an unpopular opinion but I don't like the personality test. It just feels like a chore, especially when you know how to rig it to get the best stats. I just want to get into the game right away and not have to worry about it. And while I generally enjoyed the monster medals and pachisi tracks in the gbc version, they also get pretty annoying after a while (I hate how some of the best equipment is locked behind the pachisi games). So yeah, I hope (and suspect) that the new remake is adding completely new bonus content, but I think we'll know for sure very soon.
You also missed a few things. Difficulty: NES > Mobile = Switch > SFC > GBC (this is mostly due to the lack of the Pachisi/Soguroku/TnT mini game and through them, infinite numbers of certain equipment, which are relegated to 1 or 2, usually 1, for the Mobile+Switch...however the GBC is also more favourable in stat gains on level up, and all remakes fixed the NES bug related to Stamina and Intelligence not accurately reflecting HP and MP where Stamina boosts from Seeds often never show up on the next level up with extra HP, similarly with Intelligence). Added Thief class, which makes farming and stat maxing a lot easier (all remakes, though the SFC is arguably the best as it's the only version that allows both stealing and a drop in the same battle, while the GBC version is the easiest, as it forces all potential item outcomes to the final kill, including stealing, which is random in the other remake versions). Added equipment (all remakes). Especially AoE weapons, the Whips and Boomerangs. The second being adding extra functionality to certain equipment, which is exclusive to the GBC version, most notably Ortega's Helm having status effect resistance, and the Magic Bikini actually having reductions. Another is the Mobile + Switch drastically reduces the number of Metal Slimes and Liquid Metal Slimes one can encounter where they're found in abundance from 6~8 Metal Slimes to 3~5, and for Liquid's, 5~7 is reduced to 1~4.
Why is the video output so bad for all your captured footage? And I dunno if those lines are supposed to be Scanlines, if so, you absolutely don't have your "fake scanlines" set up right. Also, was hoping for some more technical details on the differences, like the crit rate difference for the Fighter class between the SFC and GBC versions, stuff like that. Guess I was ezpecting too much...
The switch and mobile versions are such a travesty 😂 💀. They need to make it a pixel remastered version using the SNES graphics. The mobile and switch ports are literally the same game, but just look so distractingly bad
You'll have to find it for yourself. Google dragon quest 3 msu1 and run it on BSNES HD (also Google how to do msu and BSNES HD) it's not that hard to figure out
I'm a big fan of the gbc and snes versions. Modern ports should've had the attack animations. I was disappointed when i got it for swirch bit still went through it. As a gbc port it was a technically impressive game imo
Haven't watched this video yet, so I'm curious to see how our thoughts compare. Here are mine: 1. The SNES version is the best overall version with a great deal of polish and a consistent aesthetic. If undecided, play this one. 2. Play the NES version if you're a retro enthusiast who wants the original experience. It's slightly harder than the SNES version, and lacks some of the fun goodies such as the Pachisi track and bonus dungeon. Also by far the worst looking version. 3. Play the GBC version if you're a completionist who wants the most possible content. This version brings collectible medals and a new bonus dungeon. Though it looks extremely good for a GBC game, it pales by comparison to the SNES' aesthetic. 4. Play the mobile version only if you want to play on a phone and don't want to emulate. The translation is arguably slightly better than the fan made SNES translation, but no Pachisi tracks and sprites that clash with the game world itself are a huge knock on this version. (Still a good game though.) 5. Idk why you'd play the switch version
They could've just ported the SFC version to the Switch and it wouldve been better. The sprites having a different pixel size than the backgrounds looks terrible.
The reason they don't do that is they never translated it back then. Snes ports on the e console stay in Japanese if they never got translated back then. However I wish it was that way too
You cant rank mobile below the nes version. The nes versions control scheme is dated and honestly for me makes me unable to go back and play that version. And i played the nes version first. Gameplay is more important then graphics
I know what you mean but honestly my experience with mobile was just bad the whole time. Constant crashing and just everything is wrong for me personally
You spent the entire thing complaining about the shitty mobile graphics filter that makes the characters look blobby and then conclude that people should play the game on an emulator using a similar ugly upscaler/filter. Big eyeroll energy, bad video with bad conclusions.

Oh absolutely
Same here!
i like the attack animations in the snes version. I don't understand why so many companies release bad mobile ports of their classic games.
Oh I know. It's a tragedy to compare snes and mobile since they look so similar. Disgusting

Well I like it upscaled like that. It only changes ramia parts of the game honestly so it is barely fixing one little part. Still it helps
