  • Ok, so I can sort of fly the thing. Now I just need more practice and to use the phone APP since that is the only way to record video and picture. Since making this video I have flown a few quads on Real Flight 9, total of about 20-30 minutes. I MIGHT actually be able to fly this thing without destroying it. I think there are too many FAA restrictions/rules for me to actually be able to post videos on YT. This cheap thing does not require FAA registration but as I reflect on the areas I might fly it, there could be people that might have heartache over me doing it. I know I got rather suspicious the few times I have seen one flying over my house. It makes me wonder how this industry can be so large in the US due to the FAA restrictions. This video was the impetus for my last few comments. • I was reported to the ...

After seeing a video where a local person was contacted by the FAA, ua-cam.com/video/C474T9PaGQA/v-deo.html, and the hassle he went through, I seriously doubt that I will pursue this at all. There are far too many restrictions placed by the FAA as to WHERE these can be flown and HOW the images and videos made can be used. I looked up the B4UFLY app to see where the controlled airspace is in my area. Well it is RIGHT over my house. Now I see air traffic from St. Pete Clearwater airport fly over daily and that makes my neighborhood a no fly zone. I cannot even walk two blocks to the neighborhood park to fly without authorization. Technically speaking, I am not even allowed to fly a quad 2 feet above the ground in my street and take a video/pic and post it on UA-cam. So how this segment of the hobby can survive in the US is unknown to me. It seems that the most useful and enjoyable thing about this segment of the hobby would be to take videos and pictures to share with the world!!

Hey Glow, me. Pestering you again. First, you said you were in a no fly zone. Sorry bud, but you little buzz-bird couldn't cut it. Too much of a light weight to get high enough to even register on radar. Much less down an airplane, unless it was an RC, then you might have an OPPS. That's airman talk for a SNAFU.
Which is airman talk for... you guessed it.
      An OPPS.

Good to see you having some fun in a different direction. You have a bit of a cheap quality quad there, but it will be good to cut your teeth on and see if you want to buy something better. I think your motor issue may have been the reduction gear assembly that would be running off the top of the motor to the propeller. If that is how it is setup, then sometimes you will get a bit of dirt or crap in the gears and the motor will jam. Go and use your simulator and get a bit of stick time in, I'm pretty sure that Drone X doesn't have GPS stability, so it's normal for it to drift around a bit. Changing gears in your hobbies is a must to keep the spark alive. Well at least in my personal experience. Have Fun!

This drone supposedly retails for $199.. is that considered cheap... I know there are drones that cost thousands but there are smaller drones with no cameras that cost $20-$30.. I was thinking these were maybe a lower mid range price.. I've had a $30 drone that was nowhere near as big as this one.. I paid $99 for it (I was supposedly getting 50% off) then I paid $58 for a 2nd one because you know..they always try to sucker you into a discounted one.🤣

Spend just a few more bucks and buy a mavic mini from DJI. You will be much happier. You could also buy a cheaper "Whoop" style FPV drone but you will need goggles. They also have a bit of a learning curve. But they are a blast. And yes, if you are going to put the footage on UA-cam (for monetization), you need a part 107 license through the FAA. About $175 if I remember correctly. You must take a test at an official FAA school. But, it can make you money in the long run. I started off building FPV drones as a hobby ad now I work for a major drone company. Turned a hobby into a lucrative career.

    Thanks Dave,
I don't feel so bad now. I fly something a little bigger for a living (F-16CJ) and in my smugness assumed I'd have no problem with such a cute little idy-bidy birdie like this.
    Wrong...
If I had crashed a Viper as regularly on a simulator as I have my Drone X Pro, I would have been banned from flying altogether as a menace to society, house pets and wildlife.
    These little suckers are quick!
I'm beginning to suspect they may be possessed by evil masochistic spirits of their own.
So good luck beginners, I'm right there sweating it out along with you.
But you don't have to suffer the humiliation of a loving, patient and grinning husband watching you who just happens to be a natural ace with a DJI Inspire and handles the little one like a hungry hummingbird.

Oh cool! An F-16 pilot comments on my video! Thank you for your service. Yes, these things can be a bit deceiving. Keep in mind the ones that cost a bit more money are all easier to fly. Once you add GPS to a quad, it basically flies itself because if you let go of the sticks it stops and hovers.

And what's with them tracking me from a distance when I'm at the beach? That's spooky.

I'm new to drones but have always wanted one so about a week ago I ordered this drone for £99 British pounds, then of course I saw the videos on youtube but it was to late to cancel....and after looking I've found it comes under many different names, but the advertizers made it sound amazing, it flies for 20 to 30 mins they say with an amazing camera, to say I am gutted is an understatement but I suppose its my fault thinking you could get an awesome drone for £100, I've since seen them on ebay for as little as £24, this is really false advertising, LESSON LEARNED

I have a question. one of my propellers stopped working, any ideas what cold have caused this? It flew a few times in the house and i hit the curtains and a wall before this happened. Is there a battery that can last a little longer for more flight time. I know this is a beginner but would like a little more time.

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  3 роки тому

The same thing happened to mine. One motor stopped functioning. I think it was in thermal shutdown but I am not sure. I pulled it out spun it by hand, reinstalled and it worked again. I cannot say that you will have the same success. These are just cheap quads and if things break it really isn't worth trying to repair. Just the way it is. I would not recommend flying indoors if you are a beginner because of what you said just happened. You need to be in a wide open area to learn how to fly to minimize damaging the quad.

If I recall correctly, like some other quads, move both sticks either downward and inward or outward or outward and upward. I believe the instructions tell that. But it needs to be activated in some manner with engaging the sticks in certain directions.

The arrow buttons next to each stick is what you use to trim it out. Just don't expect this thing to ever STAY or BE perfectly trimmed, because it will not. You have to FLY this thing 100% of the time. If you want hands off hovering you need one with a good GPS and spend real money.
