Thanks God the great choral tradition in Leipzig has survived and the great Gewandhausorcester zu Leipzig has become the greatest orchestra in Germany under the direction of Riccardo Chailly and now Andris Nelsons. What a wonderful miracle God!

GRAND MERCI à Monsieur Vito Lin pour cette mise en ligne. Le Maestrissimo Andris Nelsons dirige une merveilleuse symphonie n°9 de Beethoven. Pour moi, cet orchestre est un des meilleurs du Monde actuellement, même si avec la parenthèse Riccardo Chailly il avait malheureusement perdu de son éclat. Le chef Nelsons honorera la Philarmonie de Paris en novembre 2020 avec cet orchestre pour trois concerts Beethoven. Dix jours après la mise en ligne des réservations, la salle était déjà presque totalement remplie. La saison 2018-19, avec cet orchestre, il avait dirigé une symphonie 2 de Schumann à faire pleurer tellement elle était splendide. Un chef SUBLIME.

Marvelous! I really like this interpretation. I got to see Andres Nelsons conduct the Gewandhousorchester in Boston Symphony Hall October 27, 2019. Great performance then, too. Looking forward to seeing/hearing them this year 2020 in Boston again.

Fabulous performance by one of the best orchestras and by a fascinating conductor. All is there : energy, subtelty, finesse and balance. Perfect first movement. Second movement out of this world. Third a bit boring : the strings could be a bit more mellow, dialogue between strings and french horns/woods an old formula for which this symphony would have deserved better. Sorry Ludvig van . Finale a memorable moment. Soloists ok not particularly interesting. Most of all Andris Nelsons is now on his way to be one of the greatest conductor we have now. There is a bit of Bernstein in him. So much empathy and constant dialogue with the orchestra. Does not impose anything but infuses the musicians with his vision. Thank you for a remarkable posting.

The tenor and baritone are, regretfully, the weakness of this would be excellent interpretation. There is an embarrassment of choice in Germany for classical music singers to choose from.
