This one and 90 are absolutely delightful and show just how creative haydn is as one could never be mistaken for the other...highly original...I really enjoyed listening 🎶

To say so much in under 23 minutes - genius. 90, 91, 92 are a set commissioned for Paris 1788.

Just from this symphony alone, you can hear where Haydn spent most of his time and energy being a symphonic writer. .Mozart was excited for all of haydns symphonies because it meant learning something new. But in reality, mozart was msinly focusing on opera and piano works. Haydn had to carve out his little niche, because he knew he wouldt compete with Mozart in anything else. Another thing i learned from this symphony is that Beethoven lesrned a lot from him despite what he said publicly. Haydn and mozart are the reason beethoven became a symphonic god. Aside from Beethoven being a bettet piano player than Haydn, i rank him as about the same as haydn talent wise. Given enough time and resources, they can both crank out a great symphony. Any chamber work for that matter. But ask them to do an opera or any large vocal work and they struggle. Being labeled the greatest composer means you can take any genre and produce a masterpiece. I only know of two men who have done that, Mozart and Bach.

Possibly because it's not the best version? Haydn worked to a tight schedule, his symphonies are rarely more than 30 mins long - 22 is pushing it. so no comments because it's not all there, others are.

Creo que el Maestro Rattle,es uno de los mejores interpretes actuales de las Sinfonias de Haydn!.-

Great performance! Certainly on par with the recording Rattle published with the Berlin Phil. Probably better, even!

Symphony No. 91 -- A candidate for Haydn's most unjustly neglected symphony.
