  • Live with Paul Di'anno and Dennis Stratton at the Marquee in 1980. (I edited this! Might be some continuity / syncing errors at parts due to the fact that the entire footage of the song is either non-existant or very rare. I spliced in footage from another song they played at the same show and tried to match it up best I could. I believe the other song which footage exists for is "Iron Maiden". Taken from a 1980 documentary about the band.)

      You are correct sir ! Most of the time you had a basic PA & a little spring reverb. And in a big room with no sheet rock or acoustical padding, you just shut the reverb off and relied on the natural bounce back echo of the room.

    Brilliant ,the production on the album version not great ,this proves Paul was indeed a great singer live ,just don't compare to Bruce , completely different singers ,Paul's voice suits the band's style as it's his song , Bruce's voice took them in a different direction to suit his , respect to both singers ,they suit their time period in the band perfectly ,well done for doing such a great job on the video ,hard to believe that was 40 years ago ,still sounds so fresh 👍🤘

    Muy privilegiados los que teníamos 11 años en ese 1980. Impregnaron de calidad y excelencia nuestros oídos y por eso la frase: Maiden no se compara, no tiene con quién además, no es ni la punta de la pirámide, es la pirámide; es la música clásica de avanzada, siempre persiguiendo la perfección, y la obtienen y en vivo además; Maiden es una cultura poderosa, es el Metál mejor diseñado e interpretado,y por esa cultura se desprendieron cientos de géneros y subgéneros, se procrearon miles de maravillosos músicos y excelentes agrupaciones, gracias a Maiden, 40 años pasaron de ese concierto, sumidos en la perfección, es el mayor ejemplo de lo que es ser músico y agrupación, del respeto de ellos mismos hacia la cultura que crearon, el respeto por nosotros, la grandeza intelectual para lograr satisfacer a millones de verdaderos oídos a través de esa estructura empresarial que por la grandeza de su música entendieron tenían que diseñar para recorrer el mundo y entregar esa magia de música y cultura que impregnaron en almas y oídos a millones de personas, la decencia de estos músicos, el estado físico y su energía inquebrantable, la puesta en escena, la seriedad extrema, afortunado yo y afortunado mi hijo que nació también escuchando y aprendiendo de Iron Maiden. Gracias.

    Thanks for taking the time to put all the pieces together Sean. Bruce is amazing, but in this footage Paul is out of this world. Such a punk attitude and a wonderful voice and stage presence, and he was just a kid!...Comparisons are such a waste of time.

    • @dragonseye00
      @dragonseye00 5 років тому +10

      You're right, comparisons are a waste of time. Paul couldn't deal with the success and was going into drugs and alcohol. But Bruce Dickinson would have never entered iron maiden if they wouldn't have had the success, intensity and music they've created with Paul. So essentially, Bruce is in Iron Maiden thanks to the great job Paul did as a singer... And Iron Maiden is still there and a legend thanks to the work of Bruce. Every singer brought in a bit of themselves, Blaze was not that relevant, but he avoided Iron maiden from breaking up after Bruce left. But Paul and Bruce are what made iron maiden this legendary (and of course Steve Harris, but in the end the singer is always essential for the people, we saw that with the decline of maiden after releasing virtual XI, which was a really far below average album... Despite having 2 or 3 really good songs on it)

    I'm about to do my 4th Iron Maiden tribute as a drummer. Watching this, Clive's speed on the fast hihat part is insane. I really think the reason Clive was fired was because he set the bar for himself so high that he couldn't maintain his level to Steve's liking on long tours. I don't blame alcohol for that. I blame Clive because these drum parts are so fast that no normal human being can possibly do that shit on a long tour. I hope that makes sense to non-drummers.
