this was a song that a high school crush and I bonded over 15 years ago. we dated, broke up, stayed close friends and fell out of touch during college. 10 years later, her and I are back together and we make a good team. Must've done something right.
You could never convince me that Matthew Theissen isn't the best lyricist of our generation. From 1998 on, this has always been my fall-back comfort band. Five Score And Seven Years Ago, The Bird And The Beeside, Mmhmm, Two Lefts Don't Make A Right... But Three Do. Y'all raised me with positivity and love. I remember having the privilege of meeting everyone backstage at The Gorge in Spokane during Creation Festival (2006 era) and I shared my skittles bag with Matt. Something I will NEVER forget. If this reaches anyone, thank you guys so much. You got me through some tough stuff. All the love.
We live in a world where you get made fun of for listening to stuff like this. I remember my youth church always playing this band and various others and kids at school would mock them. Still today at 30 years old I hear the mockery of faith and God, it's everywhere, work, public, you name it. Grown adults that I work with would laugh if they heard me listening to this band, however I don't care. My faith comes before my pride and all the mockery only further proves everywhere that the Bible speaks of persecution to me.
@@hallowedbethygains1208For real though. I use to listen to allot of rap because it was popular and all I knew but a friend shared 2 rock songs and by my senior year of high-school I found my favorite genre (rock). Fast forward 3 years (present day) I have 1000+ rock songs in my playlist, it gets me through rough times, and I could care less if my songs are mainstream or not.
I remember seeing them at Creation Fest when I was like 12. This band had all the girls going crazy. They weren’t even the biggest band at the festival. But the whole crowd was going crazy word for word. They were on the main stage but it was like 4pm. I think Toby Mac and Third Day were headlining that night. Memories I’ll never forget.
One of my most favorite songs of all time. Listening to it now as a mother of two little boys 5 and 2 this just hits differently now. Even better. Thank you Relient K for all the happiness you being into my life.
Haven't stepped foot in a church in near on ten years now. Relient K remains my favorite band- and this remains my favorite of their songs. Doesn't take faith to appreciate music this inspiring.
Miss u Emma. Hope ur doing well. Life’s been tough without u but u know I’ve made the best out of it. A soldier these days. Still can’t forget u and im glad I can’t. You showed me a lot but Ik we’ve both grown more than we thought we could. Again, will always love you. Be happy, be you.❤
I remember seeing this music video on Disney XD in 5th grade when it was a brand new channel and thought I was so cool cuz I already knew who they were... Those were much simpler times
We played this after our wedding ceremony. Almost 12 years ago! Still love it to this day. I'm pretty sure Relient K was also the first band I saw in person. ❤️
Doesn't matter what I'm going through, everyday I listen to this and it makes me feel so much better about myself, been listening to you guys since mmhmm and I've went back and listened to everything, you guys LEGIT SAVED MY LIFE,I LOVE YOU GUYS
I love this song because of it's dual meaning. One one hand it can be interpreted as a cushy love song between a love struck teen and some chick, and hat works just fine. But given the fact that Reliant K is a Christian band the song can also be interpreted as a song about God.
If you guys watched this, there is a hidden meaning behind the music video. Okay, maybe the singer chasing for the ball represents a person who has not yet changed his ways and the girl is the one leading to change. And chasing the ball is to make sure the person goes through many difficulties before he finally gave up the arrogance he put up with. So when he gives up that arrogance, people starts to accept him and he could finally move on. Correct me if I am wrong. Now, I love this kind of hidden meanings in lyrics and video! 👍 The lyrics like: We should get jerseys and then Yours would be better than mine cause you out of my league. It means that the person A wishes to be grouped with a good person B and then that good person B will be the one doing the guidance and person A will follow. If you don't think this as romance-based song, you will definitely come to this.
I saw this as well, even as a kid when it came out. All of the Christian punk bands I grew up listening to had these subliminal meanings behind their songs. It's their way of speaking the word to our youth.

This band is beyond underrated and it pains me so. 😔💔
Ikr it’s honestly sad :(
Me too!!!
They're actually not underrated at all. They were once VERY popular.

He's definitely witty in his writing and intentional with each line. And I'm not biased, I haven't listened to RK in years lol
