      @@1AAuto It is better to open the bleeder and let some fluid out to check
      1- if caliper is sticking. if hard to push, means it could stick.
      2- If fluid is dirty of smelling bad.

    Great videos! I'm a technician myself and really familiar with the Jeep KJ, I'm building one on my channel. I really enjoy watching these videos, seeing work getting done and it's not me getting dirty! Two thing about this video. 1; When you were compressing the caliper piston, was that DOT3 I saw dripping? 2; I noticed lift spacers under your coils, how is your upper A-arm/Y link ball joint holding up with the lift? I just did the rear lift on mine for my channel. Keep up the great videos, would love to see more of the KJ!

    That was a good video. Thanks, lots of good info there.
    I have to complain a wee bit. You didn't show your guy fighting with the rusty, crusty rotor to get it off. That makes it look too easy.
    I had to buy a heavy duty gear puller and fry mine with a bottle of MAP gas before it popped.
    But again thanks for a well done video. Having a hoist sure is better than working off the floor. It's getting harder every year to get up and down. At 70 I'm just not as limber as I was at 21!

      +Mike B Thanks for watching Mike. Yes they can be stubborn to get off sometimes. Usually a 2-3 LB sledge hammer on the backside of the rotor will break them free for you. if any of our visitors need to replace their rotors, we carry the brake rotors shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them. We also offer free shipping on all orders in the lower 48 states. www.1aauto.com/jeep-liberty-wrangler-brake-pad-and-rotor-kit-rear/i/1abfs00649?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony

    I'm using a big C clamp, to push the Piston down, it is the hardest thing ever! I also took the cap off the fluid reservoir. Any thoughts?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 роки тому +2

      +Andy Gleitz Thanks for watching! If the C-clamp method does not work with the bleeder screw open, then you have a frozen caliper. It will need to be replaced at that point. 1aauto.com

    On my 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD The torque spec for the rear caliper slide bolts is listed at 220 inch lbs / 25 NM / 18.3333 ft lbs
    Wheels 100 ft lbs, Banjo bolts 23 ft lbs.
    The heads on my rear caliper slide bolts is 12 mm. On my lug nuts a 3/4" fits better than a 19 mm. People should check before just wrenching on a tight bolt. I had shops ruin bolts and nuts by using over sized sockets. It lipped the fasteners so the proper size socket would no longer fit. Some I had to replace and others I was able to file.

    There are hidden drum breaks inside the rear rotars, I think most of the time they need to be adjusted before the job is finished, I could be wrong but I was told they are not self adjusting.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  9 років тому +1

      Thank you for watching! They are called a Drum in Hat design and you are correct most times they are not self adjusting. You have to adjust them to get the rotors off and then when the new ones are on. Hope this helps!

    I just swapped the brake pads on the rear. The old pads did not have the metal spring piece for the outermost pad. The new ones did. I noticed you didn't mention what that's for or how to make sure it goes on. I assumed it was to be engaged and rest on top of the slide flanges. I have no idea what it's supposed to do. Do you? It comes within about 1/4" of the center of the rotor. I can't figure out what its purpose is.
    Also, my 2007 had a retainer on the caliper that seems to be a safety of some sort. After the bolts are removed you can't remove the caliper without compressing it and removing it.

    2Ricky Ricardo Once everything is off of the rotor, if they're hard to get off sometimes it helps to spray the center of the rotor with penetrating oil, you may also need to hit the old brake rotor from the rear to break it free. hope this helps. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

      From experience if the rotors look smooth with no gouges due to wear on the pads I say just sand the rotors with sandpaper and use them. If you run your fingers over the rotor and you feel bumps no matter how minimal I say replace the rotors. Go to Amazon they have great prices. I just bought all the rotors and pads for about $200.00.

      Had to replace mine because the lining was disconnected ( no longer bonded) from the steel break shoe. When doing the parking breaks, you may have a problem with the mechanism that moves the shoes which is attached to the cable. One of mine fell out and was hard to hold in place when I put it back. A video on this world be helpful with a parking break one.
      FYI Those holding clips on the shoes are “fun “ to remove.
