Forgot, our attic is our place we don’t like to do, hardly any light or flooring & the way the boards come down you need to be careful and not hit your head. 😅 So we put very little up there which I guess is a good thing! 😊

My daughter danced. We placed each costume folded in a ziplock bag. The put the bags in a big tote. Took up way less space this way AND preserved them better.

Everyone has their own timing but I was sick of the cost of inventory of "keepsakes"🤷‍♀️, it's a time cost of having to sort through it, it's a spacial cost for physically storing it or moving it, and it takes up mental space too. Once I decluttered useless things that most people thought I needed to keep for sentimental sake, I felt free. It was like a ball of stress disappeared and I haven't missed that stuff, including pictures since then🙌. Great job on your declutter girl❣

The thing I hate decluttering the most is all of the documents relating to my daughter and her special needs. Medical documents & history. Also all of the IEP's at school and legal/attorney documents while we were fighting the school for appropriate services. I completed that goal last year!

I can’t wait till our downstairs we can organize so much stuff we have down there and it’s so much stinks it used to be so nice where we can have a second living room area but now it’s just another storage area. I’m also sentimental I totally get that, I never like getting rid of things but does feel good to donate to others. & how great is Chase being super husband and dad too! & that dress Savvy held up when she was younger how adorable 🥰 hope you guys have a great week! 💜

I'm one of those people who have a hard time keeping anything. I have maybe 2 artworks from when my daughter was little and only one Christmas tree and 2 bins of decorations for all the seasons lol. We don't have a basement and our attic space is even smaller than yours. I've tossed a lot of things that make other people cringe but we can live without it and it keeps our space free of a lot of clutter in the long run.

I think you or someone else said…you can’t save every macaroni! It’s just too too much! My child is an only child too. I loved EVERYTHING he made and ALL his class work so now time to declutter! I like how you had Savannah going through them! She is a sweet helper! Chase was also helpful…helping her!😉

You have inspired me to continue to declutter. I had a beautiful apartment10 years. However, I went through life altering changes. While earning my college degrees I got burned out in a apartment 🔥 and lost a lot of valuebles that cannot be replaced. I was told by church members to accept whatever hand me downs people were willing to give me. Many items that weren't my style is what I have been getting rid of. Also to feel some sense of normalcy I started buying items to recapture what I lost. Ultimately major clutter. To add insult to injury I was injured 😔 😪 in an elevator accident when has me in a wheelchair. I am still decluttering and you have been my motivation. Your home decor is my style as well. Thanks for sharing your videos you are probably not aware of all the good you do for someone like me. God's continued Blessings 🙏.

Make sure you have the builders put a full floor in the attic. Not only is it extra storage space but it's safer. Plus you won't have to deal with all the loose insulation. Also, have the electricians install lights up there. It's well worth the extra expense. If you do do that, have the light switch on the main level so you won't have to climb steps to a dark hole to get to a light switch.

That was quite the inspirational project. I've still got keepsakes in closets for my four kids, my mom's boxes are in the spare room (including love letters from my dad and travel journals from their move from Ohio). Also I hadn't realized that my grandma had left an intire hall closet full of boxes of photo albums and important papers , which are now in a closet at my house. It's tedious going through it all but like you say, so many memories. I'm in the process of editing down, then will organize. Thanks for the inspiration.

My most dreaded decluttering items are paper. I have a paper addiction and it was very hard to get rid of anything. Over the years that has gotten better. My paper clutter is now very minimal. I recently started going through my oldest kids, who are in college, artwork. We sorted and got rid of a ton, then I sent all the art pieces we decided to keep to Artkive to have them made into a book. I absolutely love those books!

You could, together with other moms of dancers, donate groupings of like costumes to a dance school. But only if Savanah is ready to pass them on. My girls kept theirs and still enjoy looking at them.

  • @alextavares8705
    @alextavares8705 Рік тому

Hi girl for the family photos I got several bins at Michael’s they have one specific for photos. It’s a nice project depending how many albums you have. With the dance costumes, I folded them all in the bin, put some dryer sheets and spring soap. That helps prevent mold, spiders and what critters likes different temperatures. ❤

We went through our attic about a year ago and what amazed me is ALL the boxes that we saved over the years for things! Like why did we keep them?! My garage looked like yours but it was all cardboard. Now, we try to make it a yearly spring project, before it gets too hot up there, just to go up there and go through things and discard those dang boxes. At least now we are more mindful and careful on what we save and put up there. Oh and the homeschool containers…YIKES!! They drive me nuts, from day 1, and I have over 12-13 years worth. I lost track how long. Last child graduates this year. We have 3 children and I literally gave my oldest that graduated and is married now her box as she didn’t want to get rid of anything. The middle child could care less about any of what I saved, and well the 3rd who graduates this year ask to burn his school work for a graduation party. 😂

Loved this! We used BJU Press as well and my kids were very well prepared for college, graduate school, and one is getting her doctorate in May. I will say what really matters is keeping the high school information -the rest is really just for you. (I kept binders too!) When she gets into high school look at what your state requirements are and do that -and you’ll be good. And look at the colleges you’re thinking of as well and see their requirements-whether or not she thinks she wants to go to college. There are websites where you can get transcripts. My kids were overachievers 😅 so we looked at those online and then made our own to encompass all their activities. We had to give our homeschool a name (and had a lot of fun doing that!)- so keep that in mind as well. It all looks great! 🥰😘

Just had a thought about all of Savannah's costumes. Make a huge shadow box displaying all her favorites with the date. She can hang it in her room and it will always be a memory when she has kiddos of her own. I saw this done with a wife's wedding gown and shoes and bouquet. It was beautiful. Just a thought 💜💙💚💛🧡

I need to start putting things in my attic. I just keep it in the garage but when we have horrible weather here in Texas I can't fit the second car in the garage. Thanks for sharing!

I know that Savannah is not graduating this year (23) but how is that done when a child is being homeschooled? Do you get a Board of Education from the State of Oklahoma document or something of that order? So interesting to know. It just amazes me to know that you actually taught her to READ!!! The English language is so difficult to understand meaning, how do you explain how to read AND write words like garage, knock, knife, flower, flour, sea, see, phone, light, lite, stake, steak, know, no, culture, right, write and endless other words. I am impressed with all the work you have done to get your beautiful daughter to where she is now in her life. Arlene

I dreaded going thru the homeschool stuff, but then in the end I found out I needed nothing from it. It was nice to get rid of it all. I love to declutter. It looks great! That was a lot of work!

I made a little album with school pictures report cards art from each yr and some special projects or tests and awards. Then when they turn 18 they have a little book of all their achivements and memories.

It looks so easy when you do it. 😂. I have a bonus room above the 2 car garage that has all my “craft” stuff and all the stuff we didn’t know what to do with when we moved here a couple of years ago. It is so overwhelming. I just want it gone, but I know I need to go through it. Calgon, Take me away! Lol. Thanks for the inspiration video.
