I’m communist myself and I believe each society has a right to decide their future, That means that both the US and Russia should not have interfered from the beginning, I really hope that war doesn’t break the fabric and the social ties between Russians and Ukrainians, its heartbreaking tbh.

But my brother has gone to Ukraine to help in the fight! My friend we all hate what is happening! I hope you don't have any family in Ukraine, if so my thoughts and prayers are there for them to, and I just wish I could do more..... So I am gathering as much info as I can... Maybe help In the future.

I really appreciate you sharing more of what Putin was talking about. It's such a shame that the governments of the world do such a poor job of representing the views of their people. We would not see this war taking place right now. Now that things have gone this far, I just hope whatever brings this conflict to an end doesn't cause too much suffering for the Ukrainian OR the Russian people.

I don't think anybody is 'giving' weapons to Ukraine. It seems more likely that Ukraine will be buried in debt for a long time. This happens a lot and wealthy countries seem to approve .

Kinda reminded me of Nato bombing Yugoslavia over so called ethinc cleansing of Albanians on Kosovo, which was Serbia theritory as history goes, so the bombing was not legal by the UN and theritory was always Serbian, and now its almost fully under Kosovo Albanian control and so called Nato puppet state. And that bombing didn't target only military stuff, but also hospitals, tv stations, bridges, civilians buildings, etc.. and civilians death are called collateral damage. So I am fully against such a aggression that is Russia doing especially on someone else theritory, but I see where the ideas come from. Putin wasn't happy how Nato was taking almost the whole Eastern Europe under their influence, so we are seeing that he will not allow that so easily, if things escalete more it would be a real disaster, and not only Putin is responsible.
I look on Kiev live footage everything seems peaceful, but back in the days, Belgrade was on fire, so there is some difference.
That's called whataboutism and it doesn't address the ethics of the current situation. Which can also be said "2 wrongs don't make a right".

In Yugoslavia or Serbia it was kinda different. If Serbians (for example Karadzic) wouldn't have attacked Bosnia- Herzegovina and done cruelties to the people then NATO wouldn't have bombed Belgrad..

Но вообще... Украина такая страна, где очень сильно отличается менталитет на западе и на востоке. Западная была очень негативно настроена к России и россиянам, тогда как восточную и от России зачастую неотличить.
Сейчас наверное многое поменялось и на востоке Украины.

Thanks for your input. It's true. I will have to leave my childhood home at somepoint. Other people will buy the house, live in different ways from myself. I'll probably find a different place to live that I can make decent. But any sane person would still tell me, no matter how much I am jealous of the people living in my old house, torching it while they sleep inside is a bad thing. We just had a disturbed woman in Tacoma do a string of arsons last month, on people she used to do landscaping for, and other houses in that area. They finally caught her. I hope like the crazy arsonist woman, Putin is stopped.

Took me a while to find this.
I'm in full agreement that this war is illegal, and outside that, just really bad foreign policy; possibly the worst possible way to deal with corruption and rising ultra-nationalism in Ukraine.
First, because corruption and ultra-nationalism are also a serious problem in Russia. But also, because war creates chaos and both corruption and ultra-nationalism feed on chaos and desperation. So military intervention is actually going to feed corruption and ultra-nationalism in both Russia and Ukraine and seriously endanger both nations and their national cultures. Don't believe me, ask post-WWII Germany.
But when it comes to conquests and aggression, I wouldn't say the USA is any kind of example of democracy or liberty. It's hard to think of a nation, that has meddled in the internal affairs of more nations, than the United States of America. Up to and including support for known dictators, terrorist organizations, and religious extremists.
It would be really nice, if all the countries could just get along, and not fight anymore. But the reality is that's not how countries work; they don't have friends, or even enemies. They're all rivals on some level, competing for wealth and power, even when they join forces to combat a common foe or a common problem.
What bothers me most about this war, is the West's half-hearted efforts with Ukraine. In the end, we're abandoning them, because they're costing us too much money that we'll probably never get back. But we also didn't figure that out right away, we propped them up just long enough that the war became protracted, most of their infrastructure got damaged or destroyed, and many many lives were lost in a defense that turned out to be hopeless. It would have been kinder to simply let Russia steamroll over Ukraine in the beginning. That or full NATO/EU membership, with article 5 protection.
There was a theory, that the Western "plan" for Ukraine was never to actually win. But rather to maximise the cost of victory for Russia. The idea was that Russia would expend their manpower, deplete their stocks of military equipment, and then have to spend time and money rebuilding Ukraine's civilian infrastructure while constantly fighting nationalist insurgents and terrorists.
But now, it's looking like even that won't work quite as advertised... Russia is revitalizing their military production and repurposing obsolete Soviet equipment that had been in mothball for decades. At the end of this, they'll have a large number of veteran troops with modernized equipment and a solid supply chain to expand their forces or replace things as needed.
Meanwhile the USA can't figure out how NATO works, or why it exists in the first place. And Europe can't get their military-industrial complex to produce the kinds of volumes required to replace NATO support, or for that matter to stop internal squabbling and face a common threat.

Very good analogy. I've just been really upset at the blatant targeting of civilians, it's cruel and sad. The Russian army are shelling and shooting missiles at residential areas. Over 300 civilians have died as of Feb 27 I think it was. There are hundreds of videos of missiles hitting residential areas. I love my Russian brothers but this war is not between soldiers anymore. It's a crime against humanity to purposefully hitting civilian targets. I hope for peace, but I don't think there will be with Putin having all these dreams about the past times.

I was watching an old VHS tape of my late father on his old video device, it was the USSR match against Italy during the semi finals of 1988, the squad had Russians Ukrainians and 2 Belarusians, they were playing together like brothers and two nations had social ties, shame how things have changed now and they’re fighting each other. That "14,000 dead civilians" statistic isn't correct, btw. 14,000 is the estimated total CASUALTIES (killed and wounded) for civilians AND military, for BOTH SIDES of the contact line over the entire period of 2014-2021, with most casualties taking place in 2014 and 2015, with the war entering a period of low intensity conflict not long after.
Donetsk and Lugansk are russian. Crimea is russian. Odessa is russian, Kharkov is russian. You know that better than me. They're not "invading" other people. Cyka!

My biggest worry is that Putin would take over both Ukraine and Poland (or the eastern half), thus eliminating the current geopolitical gap between Russia proper and Kaliningrad (Köingsberg before VE Day) and putting a blockade on the Baltic States.
When Putin attacks Poland or Baltic States then NATO directly has to get into war...
