I hosted a Christian metal radio show back in the gnarly 80's. Whitecross was a staple. Rex once said that it took him seven years to master all seven modes in all keys. I remember thinking, "SEVEN YEARS? THAT'S FOREVER!" 24 years later...

Funny the pentatonic/dorian ascending lick before the lead break. Rex used to end in the 11th position, as of late end ends it the way it's presented here.. Good Stuff!
Love this and all your videos Mike...I stumbled on you looking specifically for Whitecross...I always had aspirations of finding the esoteric "Rex Carroll instructional tape" that never surfaced. I grew up in a strict religious home and of all the music I was allowed Whitecross was tops. We share a lot of the same "likes" probably because we are in the same age range...the list of songs I'd request is HUGE but I'd settle for some riffs! WC "Heaven's Calling Tonight" and 'Down" Holy Soldier's Ode to Stryper "Fairweather Friend" The sweetass verse riff to A7X "Sidewinder" and any number of parts from BFMV "Alone."
I want to learn the bass version of the riff.
Is this a Faith based/ Christian Rock song? I have never heard a Christian Rock song like this before. Very cool song
